The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has pledged to run a peaceful, decent and issue-focused campaign for the 2027 general elections, with development, empowerment, job creation and better security at the centre of its message.

Mr Charles Aniagwu, chairman of the party’s state Media and Publicity Committee and Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, announced the commitment on Wednesday at a media briefing. The briefing preceded the campaign flag-off set for Thursday, November 5, at Oleh Township Stadium in Isoko South Local Government Area.

Aniagwu, who appeared alongside other committee members, explained that Oleh was selected for its strategic position and easy access for residents from the state’s three senatorial districts. He added that the party expects a large turnout of members and supporters from all 25 local government areas.

After the flag-off, he noted, the campaign will hold a state rally in Ozoro, Isoko North, before moving into individual local government areas for direct contact with residents.

He stated that the APC would avoid being drawn into political controversies and would instead focus on presenting its record and development plans to voters. According to him, the campaign will promote Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda and the proposed MORE Plus programme, which is intended to expand investment in infrastructure, economic empowerment, job creation and private-sector development.

Aniagwu explained that the administration is committed to consolidating its road and bridge projects while building an environment where businesses and industries can operate successfully. He pointed to the groundbreaking for Olam Agri’s animal feed mill in Ogwashi-Uku earlier on Wednesday as evidence of efforts to draw investment. The facility, expected to be finished within a year, is meant to serve poultry and fish farmers, provide a market for agricultural produce and create more than 1,000 direct jobs.

The commissioner stressed that roads, bridges, security and other essential infrastructure remain vital for attracting investors and supporting economic growth. He also defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, citing local government financial autonomy and federal infrastructure investments as openings for governments to deliver more projects. At the same time, he acknowledged the economic difficulties Nigerians are facing and asked for patience with the reforms.

Turning to Isoko Nation, Aniagwu listed the establishment of the College of Health Technology, Ovrode, developments at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and road projects including the Emevor-Orogun and Olomoro-Igbide roads. He also cited the Asaba-Ase-Uzere Bridge, Otekpo Road in Ellu, Isoko North, and efforts to tackle electricity problems in the area.

He recalled the governor’s recent visit to Uzere after reports of a gas leak and oil spill, saying Oborevwori directed the Ministry of Health to begin medical outreach for affected residents and others in need of attention. He further disclosed that the governor had ordered work to proceed on the remaining 15.7 kilometres of the Emevor-Orogun Road, after more than eight kilometres had been completed.

On the party’s electoral chances, Aniagwu said the APC would depend on persuasion, mobilisation and continued engagement rather than make unrealistic promises about the number of votes it expects. He expressed confidence that direct interaction with voters would win substantial support for the party’s candidates.

He repeated that the APC would respect other political parties’ right to campaign peacefully, maintaining that the democratic space and security of Delta State belong to all residents. He also urged journalists to report the campaign in a balanced and factual manner and assured them that the party’s media committee would keep engaging with the press throughout the electioneering period.
