Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress in a development that could reshape political alignments in Delta State ahead of future elections.

In a statement released through his social media platforms and signed by his media aide, Sunday Areh, Omo-Agege said his resignation takes immediate effect.

Ejes Gist News reports that the former Delta Central senator said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders in the state following recent developments within the APC.

He stated, “I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.”

Omo-Agege also expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, while requesting that his name be removed from all party records, registers and official communication platforms.

The former lawmaker, who recently lost the APC Senate ticket ahead of the next electoral cycle, said he remains committed to providing effective representation and pursuing development initiatives for Delta Central and the wider Delta State.

Political observers believe the resignation could trigger fresh realignments within Delta State politics as political parties intensify early consultations and strategic positioning ahead of forthcoming elections.

Omo-Agege remains one of the most influential political figures in Delta State, having played a significant role in the expansion of the APC’s structure in the South-South region during his time in the Senate.
