Angry youths on Wednesday disrupted an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba, Delta State, over allegations of irregularities in the voters’ register and alleged manipulation of ward records.

The youths reportedly stormed the meeting to protest what they described as fraudulent information contained in a report uploaded to INEC’s portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video circulating on social media, the protesters questioned the alleged recognition of certain communities in Warri South, insisting that there was no Ijaw aboriginal community in the area as reflected in the disputed report.

The aggrieved youths accused INEC of relying on what they described as a fraudulent voters’ register and warned that the commission could face resistance if it proceeded with the alleged irregularities.

Amid the disruption, the Delta State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner was reportedly forced to leave the venue through a back exit as tensions escalated.

The protesters further threatened that no election would hold in Warri Federal Constituency in 2027 if INEC insisted on using the disputed report uploaded on its portal.

They maintained that the alleged discrepancies must be addressed before the commission proceeds with preparations for the next general elections.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over electoral credibility, community representation and the potential for disputes surrounding the voters’ register ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, the allegations made by the protesters have not been independently verified, and INEC’s response to the claims was not contained in the available information.
