El-Rufai risks losing Kaduna as 8 governorship candidates step down for PDP guber candidate

A few days before the governorship election slated for 11th March 2023, eight gubernatorial candidates have stepped down and unanimously endorsed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Isah Muhammad Ashiru Kudan.

The governorship candidates were those of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Action People’s Party (APP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Accord Party (AP).

In a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, the chairman of the Rescue and Rebuild Gubernatorial Candidates Forum, Ambassador Sanin Yaya, said after due consultations with their members and supporters across the State, they have resolved to join forces with the PDP candidate to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC) that has inflicted so much pains on Kaduna people.

Flanked by other governorship candidates, he said: “Today, we wish to announce our support and loyalty to Rt. Hon. Isah Muhammad Ashiru Kudan, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP.

“We took this decision after extensive consultation with our party members and the good people of Kaduna State.

“This decision is based on our desire to have one indivisible state irrespective of tribal or religious differences. We are confident that Isah Ashiru Kudan is the only candidate to unify the State.

“These can be seen from the manner of his campaign, which is aimed at building Kaduna State, and from the selection of his running mate, which has given fair representation to both Christians and Muslims, who are the two major stakeholders in the State.

“As some desperate politicians have turned the political space into a hub of religious sentiments, Isah Ashiru chose to stand by issue-based campaigns only and embrace religious coexistence.

“I want to use this opportunity to remind the good people of Kaduna State of the hardship and pain inflicted on them by this APC administration, from the unjustified high rate of taxes to authoritative leadership and ego. From the increase of school fees in tertiary institutions to the unlawful disengagement of teachers, local government staff and the removal of traditional rulers.

Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the People’s Democratic Party has urged the police in Cross River State to act professionally by refraining from working together with APC members to blackmail him for a fee.

Jarigbe, who defeated APC governor Ben Ayade to win the Cross River North senatorial seat, claimed that after the party’s humiliating loss in Cross River North, party members were still working nonstop to damage his name and reputation.

BREAKING: Jarigbe Agom defeats Cross River Governor, Ayade to win Northern senatorial seat

Addressing the press in his office on Monday , the senator asked the Inspector General of Police , Usman Baba Alkali to put a stop to the show of shame going on in Cross River state where losers of election are hell bent on disparaging the winner .

He specifically called for the arrest of the chairman of APC in the state , Alphonsus Eba. He further demanded a thorough investigation of alleged nefarious activities by DCP Francis Idu and the state’s Police Public Relations Officer , CSP Irene Ugbo .

He said, “The Independent National Electoral Commission declared my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and my humble self, winner of the Cross River North Senatorial District Elections held on the 25th of February, 2023.

“We emerged victorious in that election with 76, 145 votes; while the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, the sitting governor of Cross River state, H. E. Benedict Ayade, came second with 56, 595 votes. A clear difference of 19,550 votes. Our people made it abundantly clear that I was their choice.

“But surprisingly , one DCP Francis Idu, in the Cross River State Police Headquarters, who is under the patronage of the state government and their lackeys is abusing his office by indulging Alphonsus Eba in his psychotic odyssey of writing frivolous petitions against me and other respected indigenes of Cross river North.”

The lawmaker declared that it is a wonder of the criminal world for a man who was caught on camera disrupting collation of results at an Independent National Electoral Commission collation centre to turn around and start writing frivolous petitions against us, when he should be facing charges for electoral offences.

According to him, “The height of this shameless alliance with Alphonsus Eba and these shameless elements in the Police, is a video my attention was drawn to, where some persons were paraded by the police in Cross River state for allegedly perpetrating electoral violence in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections held on the 25th of February, 2023.”

Mr George said he and a group, Omo Eko Pataki, had uncovered the heinous plan to avoid a repetition of the dreadful history.

Achieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, on Monday, said that there are plans by unidentified individuals to assassinate the Lagos State gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour ahead of Saturday’s election.

Mr George made the disclosure at a press conference in Lagos where he referred to the unsolved murder of a frontline politician and governorship hopeful, Funsho Williams, who was assassinated at his Ikoyi residence ahead of the 2007 elections.

Mr George said he and a group, Omo Eko Pataki, had uncovered the heinous plan to avoid a repetition of the dreadful history.

“We wish to inform Nigerians about the heinous plan to secretly eliminate the Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Mr Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour, the latest move by the Lagos occupiers, to take him out of circulation before the election on Saturday.

“It’s not a matter of party, the essence of life is to open yourself to protect others and I told you that Funsho williams is my younger brother. I was in the villa when the president then called me that I am just getting a report that they have killed Funsho Williams, they gave me a presidential plane to come down and I saw his corpse, so we don’t want a repeat,” he said. We, hereby, warn that, should anything happen to this vibrant bonafide Lagosian, who fate has thrown up to free our dear state from the stranglehold of marauders, Nigerians should know who to hold.”

Since the Labour Party in Lagos demystified president-elect Bola Tinubu’s political influence in the just concluded presidential election, Mr Rhodes-Vivour’s growing popularity has unsettled staunch supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, some of whom have reaffirmed their intention to use all necessary measures to ensure that the country’s commercial capital remains under the grip of the party.

Stop dancing ‘skelewu’, causing gridlocks on Abuja streets, Tinubu Warns Atiku

PDP Election Protest: Stop dancing ‘skelewu’, causing gridlocks on Abuja streets, Tinubu warns Atiku

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, has asked the Peoples Democratic Party PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to respect his great age and cease following court jesters like Dino Melaye to dance’skelewu’ and causing traffic congestion in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Tinubu was responding to Atiku and other PDP leaders’ protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday.

    What is Skelewu?

David Adeleke (Davido) popularized the Skelewu’ dance style with his song of the same name.

Tinubu stated that it was odd that a former vice president of the country could be so idle as to disturb the public peace, describing the action as a new low and a theater of the absurd.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media and Publicity for the All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Campaign Council, said in a statement that when Atiku told the world last week that he would seek redress in court over the outcome of the 25 February Presidential election, the PCC had no idea that he had no intention of keeping his promise.

“Given his political pedigree, it was hardly surprising that, days later, Atiku led a group of protesters, or jesters, to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Abuja.

“What Alhaji Atiku and his motley crew displayed today was a new low for the perennial election loser.

“With Atiku putting on a show of the absurd, we fail to see how a small crowd’s march to INEC will provide a victory window for him and the splintered PDP. After the electoral umpire declared Asiwaju Bola Tinubu the president-elect, Atiku’s only recourse is the Election Petition Tribunal.

The APC PCC stated, “We do not expect a former Vice President of Nigeria, a statesman, and a Presidential candidate to be so unemployed as to have the time to disturb public peace over an electoral result he had already stated he would challenge in court.”

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Monday took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who led leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on a protest at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.

Wike, who spoke at the commissioning of Chokocho-Igbodo Road in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, said he warned the leadership of the party over its insistence that northerners hold onto the presidential ticket and national chairmanship seat of the party.

According to him, Section 7(3)(c) of the PDP constitution recognised zoning and rotational presidency, but the leadership of the party contravened the provisions of the party’s regulations.

    He said:

“I owe nobody any apology at all. I am one of the apostles, one of those who stood firm that power must rotate to the South. This is for equity, this is for fairness and this is for justice.

“Whether you voted for Labour, I have no problem with you. Whether you voted for APC, I have no problem with you. That is what we have argued for: that the north has had it for eight years. Therefore the south must be there for eight years,” he said.

The Rivers governor also commended the people for voting a southern president in the just-concluded elections.

Lobbying for appointments in Tinubu’s presidency begins as natives of Abuja demands FCT ministerial slot

Following the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect in the 2023 general election by the nation’s electoral body, groups have begun to lobby for appointments in the incoming administration.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria reports that sequel to his victory in the February 25 presidential poll, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the election, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, would be sworn in as president on May 29, 2023, to succeed President Muammadu Buhari who is finishing his second term in office.

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has enjoined the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to concede 50 percent of political appointments to Nigerian women.

The group also congratulated Tinubu and the vice president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima on their victory at the presidential election.

The national president of FOMWAN, Hajia Rafiah Sanni, conveyed the group’s message to Tinubu in a statement made available in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Islamic body praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting free, fair and credible elections.

It implored the aggrieved parties and their candidates to seek redress at the designated court of law and shun inciting statements capable of overheating the polity.

It, however, lamented that the Nigerian political system has not been fair to women which, it noted, “is evident with the insignificant number of seats won by women at the National Assembly as well as appointments made into cabinets.

“FOMWAN believes that neither the All Progressives Congress (APC) nor their oppositions can win a polling unit without the massive votes from the women folk.

“We therefore appeal to the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the vice president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima to make a difference by ensuring that competent women from across cultural and religious divides are considered for appropriate positions. We demand 50 percent of the appointments for women,” she said.

Give Us FCT Minister, Natives Tell President-elect

On their part, natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to President-elect Tinubu to give a ministerial slot to an indigene of Abuja in line with the existing court ruling, when he assumes office as the president of Nigeria.

The natives, under the auspices of the Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (GICC), FCT chapter, also appealed for the implementation of the political and administrative structures as provided for in the 1999 Constitution, to remove any semblance of discrimination against Nigerian citizens of FCT origin.

FCT-GICC coordinator, Amb. Ayuba Jacob Ngbako, while briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja on behalf of the natives, also appealed to Tinubu to create Mandate Secretariats for the benefit of political actors and party loyalists resident in the FCT.

“We are also appealing for the enhancement of the status and welfare of the traditional rulers in the FCT by the incoming Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Shettima administration, and special economic empowerment programmes to address the economic vulnerability of women and youth stratum in the FCT.

According to Ngbako, despite not winning the presidential election in the FCT, Tinubu had promised an all-inclusive government that will enhance the continued political development of the federal capital.

“The FCT-GICC is committed to continued discussions, engagement, and lobbying with the Tinubu/Shettima administration on the request we have made. We are very optimistic that the requests, which are for the betterment of the FCT people, will be considered by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Shettima administration, to the glory of God.”

He appealed to all Nigerians to join hands with the Tinubu/Shettima administration in building a strong, united, and prosperous nation. “Together, we can overcome the challenges that lie ahead and create a better future for ourselves and future generations,” he said.

North East Leaders Call For Broad-based government

Also, leaders, under the umbrella of North East Development Association (NEDA), have called on the president-elect to run an all-inclusive government and to see Nigeria as an entity and strive to govern it irrespective of ethno-religious and political affiliation upon taking oath of office come May 29, 2023.

In a press briefing yesterday in Bauchi, the secretary-general of the coalition, Comrade Bitako Abubakar Umar, congratulated the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, and his deputy, Senator Kashim Shettima, describing their victory as a sign that Nigeria and Nigerians are gradually shifting away from religious and sectional politics.

Umar, who said Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians irrespective of region, religion, culture, tribe or political affiliation, noted that the presidential election has been concluded and winner declared; as such, if there are any matters arising or grievances, provisions for redress had been made under the constitution which all citizens swore to uphold.

The group, which drew membership from the states that make the sub-region, also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for creating the enabling environment for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the 2023 general elections in an atmosphere of peace.

The North East Development Association also commended INEC under the chairmanship of Professor Mahmud Yakubu for organising what it described as one of the most transparent, peaceful, free and fair elections in the history of Nigeria.

NEDA stressed that the election was adjudged the best considering that “opposition defeated the sitting Senators who were unable to be re-elected, different from the trend in Nigeria where incumbents dictate who gets elected.

Comrade Bitako Abubakar Umar said it was imperative for Nigerians (youths, elderly, women and children) to live peacefully and maintain their means of livelihood.

He stressed that the recent EndSARS crises should teach Nigerians a lesson because, according to him, the same Nigerians are used by politicians to aspire to become their leaders.

“No any politician, pressure group or political group is worth dying for; without people, Nigeria is just a seven letter word; there has to be people as social, cultural and religious groups.

“We should use what happened and make Nigeria move on, and still Nigeria will move on, no ambition of any politician is above the unity and peace of the country.”

According to him, issues and problems should be resolved through civilised and constitutional means in order to protect, preserve and safeguard the sanctity of our dear country and nation Nigeria first.

Serve All Nigerians Who Voted For You – Ekiti APC

Meanwhile, former chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Chief Jide Awe, has said that the victory of the party in the recently concluded presidential election is for the people of Nigeria who chose to identify with the APC in the time of trouble.

Awe, who is the special adviser on political matters to the Ekiti State governor, described the election won by the APC standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as God’s doing that beats all political and religious permutations.

The former APC chairman in Ekiti State, in a chat with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, praised the electorate for standing by the party despite challenges, noting that Tinubu’s presidential victory was long envisaged before now.

He said, “To us in APC, the victory is not our own, it belongs to the people of Nigeria that decided to vote for APC despite all odds.

“Ordinarily, Tinubu should have cleared Lagos in any election, but he and his party were defeated. One may be thinking that northerners sponsored him but in some key areas of the north, the giant fell in Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna, yet won the election.

Awe said Tinubu is not just a politician but marathon runner that is focused and straight forward in all ramifications, adding that his bold heart helped him to win the poll despite the challenges he faced on his way.

The court granted the reliefs and with regards to the BVAS, said; “That leave is hereby granted to the applicants to carry out Digital Forensic Inspection of BVAS machines used for the conduct of the 25th February 2023 Election for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

However, INEC is expected to deploy the same BVAS for the subnational elections, meaning that the commission will have to reconfigure them and make them fit for purpose.

A check by Ejes Gist News Nigeria revealed that it takes an average of five days to configure the BVAS, meaning that the commission has to begin the process of reconfiguration latest by Tuesday.

A source in one of the state offices of the commission who did not want his name mentioned due to the sensitivity of the issue however said the commission would be approaching the courts to vacate the order.

He said: There are over 176,000 polling units. The BVAS is polling units specific, which means that you cannot do a mass reconfiguration. The machines have to be reconfigured individually and those take an average of five days.

“If we leave the BVAS as the court has ordered, it simply means that we cannot use them for the state elections. So, we are approaching the court to seek a way out”.

Okocha, in a media briefing held in Port Harcourt on Sunday, asserted that his emergence as the leader of the APC in the state followed Amaechi’s alleged directive that members of the APC vote against the then Presidential Candidate of the party, now President-elect Bola Tinubu, in the recently concluded elections.

“A day before the presidential election, he instructed his followers to vote for the PDP candidates. We also have evidence that he voted for the PDP’s candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“This automatically disqualifies him as the leader. And that I, Chief Tony Okocha, who won the election for our presidential candidate with my own faction, am now the leader of the APC in Rivers State,” he claimed.

Darlington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Rivers State, insisted that the former Chief of Staff to Amaechi is not a member of the party in the state in response to Okocha’s self-enthronement.

Nwauju stated that Okocha was merely a member of Tinubu-independent Shettima’s campaign organization in the recently concluded presidential election.

According to him, Okocha is a transactional politician because he cannot name five APC executive members from his ward.

USA NADECO expels Tinubu, rejects 2023 presidential election results, moves to extract original votes from INEC server, BVAS

The National Democratic Coalition, United States Chapter (NADECO USA) has announced the expulsion of Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly emerging through a fraudulent electoral process.

NADECO USA gave the indication in a statement issued over the weekend and signed by the Executive Director of, Lloyd Ukwu, Esq., disclosing that the expulsion would be formalised an international press conference scheduled for this week Wednesday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. It said it would not tolerate electoral fraud just because Tinubu, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was a founding member of NADECO and a stalwart of NADECO USA.

The group meanwhile disclosed that it has initiated moves to interrogate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Server and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used for the February 25, 2023 presidential election in Nigeria with a view to extracting the original votes cast.

It also disclosed that it will approach the United States Congress “to commence the introduction of a non-binding Resolution calling on the US administration not to recognize the product of the election. It is the product of a poisonous tree.”

The statement reads in part: “We intend to hand out press kits containing among other things a synoptic 10-minute video highlighting the major flaws in the process just concluded.

“NADECO will at the conference formally sever its relationship with Tinubu as a former founding member of both NADECO (Nigeria) and NADECO (USA) for his participation in the worst electoral fraud in Nigerian recent history.

Remember NADECO fought Abacha as the military dictator who scuttled the will of the Nigerian people in 1993. Exactly 30 years later, in 2023, NADECO is fighting the same dictatorship but only this time a much more dangerous civilian dictatorship. And mostly perpetuated by one of those who were in the trenches to fight Abacha.

“NADECO will not look the other way simply because the fraud was perpetrated by one of its founding members.

“After the conference, we intend to approach the US Congress to commence the introduction of a non-binding Resolution calling on the US administration not to recognize the product of the election. It is the product of a poisonous tree.

“This same type of resolution was introduced by former Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin during the Yaradua election. Yaradua agreed, as a compromise in order to withdraw the resolution, to openly admit that the election that brought him was flawed. You will recall that he did say so in his national broadcast to Nigerians.

“NADECO shall further call on the international community to support the empaneling of a team of internationally acclaimed technical experts to interrogate the INEC serves, and BVAS, etc to extract the original votes.”

Alleged suspension: Wike, PDP to know fate May 31

A Federal High Court in Abuja has set May 31 as the date for rendering a decision in a lawsuit filed by the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, seeking an order prohibiting the Peoples Democratic Party from suspending or expelling him from the party.

Justice James Omotosho set the date on Monday after attorneys for the governor, Dr. Joshua Musa, SAN, and the PDP, Johnson Usman, SAN, adopted their procedures and presented their arguments for and against the lawsuit.

Wike filed a lawsuit against the PDP, its National Working Committee, and its National Executive Committee as the first, second, and third respondents, respectively.

In the FHC/ABJ/CS/139/2023 lawsuit, the governor joined the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission as fourth through sixth respondents, respectively.

Wike is requesting an order directing all parties to maintain the status quo and stay all actions relating to the threat to suspend or expel him by the first through fifth respondents pending the hearing and determination of the initial motion.

On February 2, Justice Omotosho issued an interim order against the party and others named in Wike’s motion dated and filed on February 2.

The judge, who extended the restraining order on February 14, ruled that all parties must maintain the status quo until the suit is heard and decided.

On Monday, when the hearing resumed, Musa informed the court that the matter had been adjourned and he was prepared to proceed.

He asserted that his client’s right to freedom of association was being violated by the respondents’ threat to suspend and then expel him from the party, hence the need to petition the court.

However, Usman, who appeared for the PDP and others, disagreed with Musa’s argument.

He argued that the case was based solely on conjecture, as Wike had failed to provide proof that the respondents intended to suspend or expel him from the party.

He stated that the party had not considered suspending or expelling G5 Governors or Integrity Group members.

Musa argued that despite Usman’s assertion that there was no attempt to suspend or expel Wike, their application contained numerous allegations against the governor at Paragraphs 6, 7, 8, 11, 19, 20, 21, and 22.
