There will be chaos and violence in Nigeria if FG fails to do the right thing” — Femi Falana reacts as Peter Obi drags Tinubu to court

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has said that there will be violence in the country if the federal government fails to do the right.

Speaking on the issue, Falana said: “The Supreme Court decision shows that this is a great time for democracy in Nigeria. The federal government should not interfere in this matter and the courts should be allowed to decide.”

“The federal government has said that they will follow the decision of the court and it will be final, so when the time comes, they should follow the decision of the federal government, they should not do otherwise. Otherwise they will cause chaos and violence in Nigeria.

Femi Falana said that if the court favors someone and gives victory to a certain candidate, even the federal government should not go against it if it wants peace in the country.

Guber poll: Labour Party vows to bury PDP in Abia

Dr Alex Otti, the gubernatorial candidate of the Labor Party LP, in Abia State, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is dead and shall be buried at the polls on March 11.

He was speaking at a reception organized in his honor by the CY Nwankwo Foundation which took place at Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State at the weekend.

Otti boasted that the Labor Party killed PDP, having won one of the three senatorial seats and six out of eight House of Representatives seats in Abia State in the concluded National Assembly elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on February 25, 2023.

Describing LP as the leading party in Abia State, he further claimed the PDP in its last ditch effort to hang on to power has gone to town with evil propaganda against him.

His words: “If you listen, you will hear all the things coming out from this sinking state government of PDP. How they would unleash violence, how they would ensure that there won’t be any voting, how they would write results, how they would use money and buy up everybody and all that.”

Continuing, he said: “They have also gone ahead to reappoint some miscreants they had sacked earlier [including a] local government transition committee chairman.

“I think they’re just reacting like a man that is drowning. But they’re already drowned and we are going to bury them on the 11th of March 2023.”

Otti added: “If you check the social media space, all they’re doing now is releasing fake reports purportedly coming from me. One of the things they have said is that I am going to sack most of the civil servants.

“In fact, it is the government appointees that are the ones circulating this on the various social media platforms.”

Even though presidential election was manipulated, Obi, Atiku must accept result —says President-elect, Tinubu

The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said a true democrat will accept the outcome of an election even if it’s manipulated and rigged.

He said this in an apparent response to reaction of Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of Labour Party.

BREAKING: Presidential election was sabotage — INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu

The duo’s parties called for a cancellation of the election while collation was underway. They alleged that the process had been manipulated as a result of the non-use of BVAS.

While responding to questions from State House reporters after a visit to President Muhammmadu Buhari in his country home of Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday, Tinubu said nation-building ought to be paramount to democrats.

Tinubu, who commended the President for supporting democracy in Africa, said he was following the process, building a successor and ready to hand over peacefully.

Tinubu asserted that no matter how provocative a defeat is, it must be tolerated by democrats.

On the motive behind his visit to the President, he said: “I came to present the certificate of return to him (Buhari) as the party leader and commend his efforts in supporting democracy in Africa, this is the largest democracy in Africa and he couldn’t have done any better, we are lucky there is no incident, there is no accident, and no matter how provocative a defeat is, we still have to tolerate it because we are democrats and we are trying to build a nation.”

On the takeaways from the visit, he identified: “the calmness and commitment and the fact that after voting, he taught us again dedication to our party by displaying his ballot papers, loyalty to the party and being ready to create a future for all of us and no matter how tempting the problem of democracy is, he is following the process, building a successor and ready to hand over peacefully, you know in Africa it’s a big deal you know.

Asked to speak on messages of congratulations, Tinubu said: “oh very many, many of that in fact as far as Europe, the stock market reacted positively well, there was a goodwill message from Macron, the President of France.”

‘INEC Will Sack Me But Heads Will Roll’ — Top Official Reveals How Presidential Election Was Rigged

INEC Will Sack Me But Heads Will Roll’, Top Official Reveals How Presidential Election Was Rigged

Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election may have come and gone but the controversies trailing its conduct by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appear to be far from over.

This comes as a senior member of INEC’s staff has told our correspondent that the presidential poll was manipulated in favour of Bola Ahmed Tinubu — the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

The official who was deployed to one of the southwestern states during the election, claimed that the electoral process was manipulated and undermined by various forces in connivance with members of INEC.

BREAKING: Presidential election was sabotage — INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu

In the wee hours of March 1, four days after the presidential election, INEC declared that Tinubu of the ruling APC polled 8,794,726 votes to emerge as president-elect ahead of his closest contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 6,984,520, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party who secured 6,101,533 votes.

INEC declared the winner despite complaints of alleged discrepancies in collated figures and allegations that the electoral umpire failed to abide by its own regulation mandating electronic transmission of the results from polling units using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine.

Known as the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), the website which was designed to receive photographic images of election result sheets in real-time directly from polling units across the country was reported to have suffered system collapse that prevented the transmission.

But the commission’s senior official who spoke to Ejes Gist News Nigeria on the condition of anonymity, said the claim that transmission of the results was prevented by server downtime was part of a game plan to manipulate the election.

“It was a very messy election. I am an INEC staff member but no! no!! no!!!

“They (INEC management) made an excuse that our server was hit by hackers 162 times but they are merely deceiving members of the public.

“Why are commercial banks’ servers not being attacked that way? Do banks suffer such attacks to the point that their customers are not able to carry out transactions? It (the election outcome) was scripted and orchestrated to turn out that way,” said the official.

According to him, governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) made a special arrangement to take care of INEC staff during the election even though the commission already paid allowances to staff deployed for elections.

“In fact, they (APC governors) were taking care of us and fed us twice daily during our stay for the presidential election.

“I heard they gave money to some INEC officials in some states. And they also gave election observers money, that’s what usually happens. Some APC-controlled states were also allowed to assist the commission with transportation of sensitive election materials on election day.”

The official recalled that, “INEC management had instructed state offices to not deploy election materials and personnel until they’re instructed to do so. That was why they delayed in some states. In strongholds of the APC, they quickly deployed personnel and materials to polling units and in strongholds of opponents, they delayed. In some places, they did not even deploy personnel to the field.

“For instance, in a whole local government where the Labour Party is popular, elections did not start until past 12 PM. Was our chairman not supposed to announce that there won’t be election in that case? In fact, I learnt that voting did not start until about 4:30 PM in some areas.

“All the things people are saying about the election being rigged in favour of the APC is true, there’s no gainsaying it. In fact, worse things that people aren’t aware of happened during the presidential election,” he said.

On Saturday, the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, at a meeting with resident electoral commissioners, appeared to admit that some officials of the electoral umpire were compromised to manipulate the polls.

He said while planning for the election was “painstakingly done,” issues of “logistics, election technology, behaviour of some election personnel at different levels, attitude of some party agents and supporters” affected the outcome negatively.

Yakubu directed that “All staff found to be negligent, whether they are regular or ad hoc officials, including Collation and Returning Officers, must not be involved” in the forthcoming governorship and state assembly elections to avoid a repeat while promising to that proven infractions against political candidates would be addressed.

    ‘INEC Will Sack Me’

Meanwhile, the INEC source told Ejes Gist News Nigeria that some of the challenges recorded during presidential election also arose from poorly trained ad-hoc staff and intimidation of voters and personnel of the commission.

“A video had gone viral where a lawmaker was going round Lagos and opening ballot boxes to see if the electorate were voting the APC. Where he saw that APC got more votes, he left it but in places where other parties dominated, he tore the ballot papers. I can get the video and send it to you.

“The international observers did not lie in their submissions that the election was flawed. They had even noted before the election that there would be problems because a lot of the ad-hoc staff used were either not properly trained or not trained at all and this was because INEC did “fire brigade” training before the election.

“In fact, some people were recruited on the day of the election at the polling unit. All they asked them was if they could operate a phone before engaging them to handle the BVAS machine. I even saw where a minor held the BVAS machine.

If I was prepared for INEC to sack me, I would have granted an interview to pressmen exposing some of these infractions. If I decide to expose what happened in my PU alone, the INEC chairman would order my sacking. I will become a hero but INEC will sack me because I will indict a lot of persons and that would also lead to their sacking from the commission.

Many Nigerians believe that Mr Peter Obi, the candidate of an unpopular political party, was cheated through ballot rigging in the election. The former Anambra State Governor enjoyed the support of young people who constitute over 60% the country’s total population of eligible voters.

He defeated the declared winner, Bola Tinubu, a two-time former Lagos State Governor and acclaimed ‘godfather’ of Lagos politics, in the latter’s stronghold but failed to pull sufficient votes to be declared winner according to INEC figures.

However, the INEC source claimed that Obi could have won the election if he wasn’t rigged through the collusion of some INEC officials and the ruling party.

“Obi really tried and even the spread that people are talking about, Tinubu did not get it. From what I saw, Obi is the only candidate that got the spread. He (Obi) really worked hard and people really wanted him and you can see that the Labour Party has won a lot of House of Reps seats and the Senate.

“And let me tell you, the Labour Party is likely get Lagos in this governorship election (and) at least three other states. See, you people underestimated the Labour Party. I recall people said they cannot even get one million votes in the presidential election but how many million votes did they get?”

He added, “I don’t know if those (LP and PDP) going to court can succeed but they can get a lot of evidence of election fraud to show to the court. All they (the aggrieved candidates) need to do is to ask people who have evidence of malpractices in any form from the polling units to come forward with them and give them a token in return. This way they will get all the evidence they need.”

Labour Party Senate, Reps candidates defeat all serving National Assembly members in Anambra

Labour Party Senate, Reps candidates defeat all serving National Assembly members in Anambra

Labour Party senatorial and House of Representatives candidates have defeated all the serving NASS Members in Anambra State.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria reports that all serving National Assembly members in Anambra State lost their re-election bids, except Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the YPP, others were swept away by Peter Obi’s Labour Party tsunami.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria understands that two senators and all the 11 House of Representatives members in the state, failed to return.

This was blamed on the popularity of Mr Peter Obi, which affected most of the candidates of other political parties.

A clear analysis showed that: Senators Uche Ekwunife and Stella Oduah, both of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who are representing Anambra Central and North respectively, lost their seats to the candidates of Labour Party, Senator Victor Umeh and Hon Tony Nwoye.

In Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon Obinna Chidoka of PDP, an incumbent and younger brother of former minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka lost.

The younger Chidoka lost a seat he had occupied for about 12 years to a rooking politician, Mr Uchenna Okonkwo, who is a first-timer, and contested on the platform of the Labour Party.

In Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency, Hon Lynda Ikpeazu who has for long consolidated his grip on the area also lost to a Labour Party candidate.

In Ogbaru, Chuchu Onyema also lost to a Labour Party candidate and a journalist, Hon Afam Ogene.

In Oyi and Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon Vincent Ofumelu lost his seat too. Hon Chinedu Obidigwe of Anambra East and West Federal Constituency also lost his seat, same as the representative of Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency, Dozie Nwankwo who went for senate. He also failed to be elected as he was beaten by Senator Victor Umeh.

In Orumba North and South, Hon Okwudili Ezenwankwo lost, just like in Aguata Federal Constituency, where the representative, Hon Chuma Umeoji contested for a seat in the Senate but lost.

In Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Hon Chris Azubogu opted to contest for Senate and lost, while in Ihiala Federal Constituency, Hon Chudi Momah lost.

In Awka North and South Federal Constituency, the incumbent failed to contest, but the seat was also taken away from the PDP. A greenhorn politician, and former university teacher, Prof Lilian Orogbu, who contested on the platform of Labour Party, won.

In all, out of the three senatorial zones, Labour Party took two, leaving one for the YPP candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. So far, Ubah will be the only lawmaker from Anambra returning to the National Assembly on May 29.

The Labour Party took six out of the 11 House of Representatives seats in the state, while APGA which used to have the majority seats is only left with four, while YPP was able to clinch one.

A political analyst, Damian Ugwu, who analysed the situation said: “Truth is that it would have been good for us to send experienced lawmakers to Abuja because the old ones are underperforming; they just needed to be voted out, while we can start now to groom the kind of lawmakers we want to have in the future.

“As for Ifeanyi Ubah, I would like to call him the last man standing. He is the only man that survived Peter Obi’s popularity.”

Peter Obi won Rivers State, but different results were declared — Rivers APC Spokesperson, Sogbeyi Eli

The spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Sogbeyi Eli has claimed that Peter Obi of the Labour party won Rivers State in the presidential election, but different results were declared.

Eli, while speaking to our correspondent, said people who were on the field saw the results coming in but were surprised to see that the declared results didn’t match what was recorded from the polling units.

Citing examples, he said the candidate of the Labour party won in Bori, Khana LGA of Rivers State but the result recorded from the areas didn’t come close to what was declared by INEC.

He said “Do you know why people are raising eyebrows over the result that came in Rivers State?

“People on the field saw the result coming; Those results do not reflect what was finally declared.

“Labour party won in Bori; but what is the final declaration?

“So let’s assume that Wike supported Asiwaju, his candidate for House of Representatives was also declared.”

Bola Tinubu of the APC who was declared president-elect won Rivers state after polling a total of 231,591 votes in Rivers State as against Obi’s 175,071 votes.

Atiku came third with 88,468 votes, while Kwankwaso scored 1,322 votes in a distant fourth.

  • PDP chances threatened in Enugu as ‘high-profile’ Party chieftain joins Labour Party ahead of election

PDP chances threatened in Enugu as ‘high-profile’ Party chieftain joins Labour Party ahead of election

PDP chances threatened in Enugu as high-profile Party chieftain joins Labour Party ahead of election

The growing popularity of the Labour Party in Enugu has attracted high-profile members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

The Labour Party (LP) in Enugu has been attracting high-profile members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after its outstanding performance in the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections. According to Professor Paul Nnamchi of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a visiting scholar at the Enugu State University of Technology, the PDP defectors are even seeking to contest the forthcoming Enugu East senatorial election next Saturday on the LP platform. This report provides an overview of the situation and sheds light on the views of different stakeholders.

The Enugu East senatorial election was rescheduled to Saturday due to the assassination of the LP candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, a former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) chairman in the state. He was killed on February 22 at Awkunanaw in Enugu South Local Government Area on his way to Enugu City from his Amurri hometown in Nkanu West LGA. The LP won the previous senatorial election by a wide margin of 104,492 to 46,948 votes.

The LP’s growing popularity has raised eyebrows among some observers. Chief Casimir Agbo, the LP State Chairman, has declared that “the Labour Party is now not just a party but a movement” after the party won the Presidential and National Assembly votes overwhelmingly. However, there are concerns in some quarters that some of the new joiners “may be seeking to reap where they did not sow,” as Professor Nnamchi told journalists.

There are reports that some of the erstwhile PDP members who are seeking to contest on the LP platform have not formally resigned from the PDP or from their positions as aides to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Professor Silk Ugwu-Ogbu, head of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Enterprise at the Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos, has suggested that the LP ticket for the Enugu East senatorial election should be given to any of the three brothers of the late Chief Chukwu. He argues that this move would enable the LP to win the senatorial vote more easily and by a wider margin.

Professor Nnamchi and Mr Ogbodo have raised ethical concerns about the political maneuvering of some of the PDP defectors who did not see eye to eye politically with the late Chief Chukwu up to the point he was killed by political opponents. They suggest that the sympathies of the people are strong with the Chukwu family, and fielding any of the Chukwu brothers would enable the LP to win the senatorial vote more easily.

The growing popularity of the Labour Party in Enugu has attracted high-profile members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are seeking to contest the forthcoming Enugu East senatorial election on the LP platform. While some observers have hailed the LP’s growing popularity, others have raised concerns about the political maneuvering of some of the PDP defectors and the ethical implications of their actions. The LP may increase its chances of winning the election by fielding any of the three brothers of the late Chief Chukwu, who is highly respected for his contributions to the public good.

There’s need to return to drawing board, PDP has a big task — Gershom Bassey

There’s need to return to drawing board, PDP has a big task, Gershom Bassey

The senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District, Gershom Bassey has said that his party, the PDP has a big task ahead, adding that it would be important for the party to go back to the drawing board.

The former governorship aspirant who spoke on the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, lessons learnt, and his opinion on the back to south agitation, said the principle of rotation is still.

What is your reaction on the poor performance of PDP in the just concluded presidential and national elections in the state?

It is time for us to all go back to the drawing board and see what we did right or wrong. This has been a verdict from the people of the southern senatorial district. So we in the PDP have to go out and do some soul searching to see how we can get things right for next time.

BREAKING: Jarigbe Agom defeats Cross River Governor, Ayade to win Northern senatorial seat

As an advocate of back to South, with the current situation, would you still encourage it?

The principle of rotation is still there but as you know, my party has taken a different path and I am a party man, so for now, I would just say we as politicians must always listen to the people that we aspire to lead. For now, I real do not have much to say about it.

What’s your comment on the election generally in the state?

If you look at all the winners, they are all former PDP members from three years ago. It just goes to show that sometimes, under the leadership of the current governor, he has not been able to successfully manage the PDP in a way it was bequitted to him and because of that, he was one of those who scattered the PDP as it were. That is, his leaving the party with some members helped to scatter the party. The PDP has a big task to go back to the drawing board and look at things again.

What lessons has the PDP learnt from this?

The lessons we can learn for next time is that the PDP has been greatly divided because if you look at everybody that won, they are all former PDP members, including the Labour party candidate that won. Next time could be anytime, it could be in a re-run election, run off election or governorship election but these are some of the lessons we must learn deliberately for the next elections.

Don’t you think the Wike/Atiku crisis contributed PDP’s poor outing?

That may be a factor but it was never a civil war. We were always talking to each other. If you look at our presidential campaign council, there were nominees from these groups and if you look at the state campaign organisation, there also were nominees from those groups. So the disagreement would have been a forced disagreement from an outsider because within the state, there was never a sharp division as they are talking about.

But the division was very glaring as the opposing sides never worked together ?

Maybe you have done a post mortem but we have not done a postmortem. So you may have more information than we do, but we are going to sit down and do a post mortem to determine the mistakes we made so that we would be stronger for the next climb.

In the cause of campaign you and former governor Liyel Imoke said if Atiku fails in the state other candidates will fail. Do you still stand by that statement?

I never said so publicly but I do believe we would have been better off with an Atiku victory. It is very important for us that in the elections, Atiku wins because if he does not win, it would affect our governorship candidate and that is just a fact.

Already, Atiku has lost Cross River. Do you not think it would affect your candidate here?

Everybody’s moral is low, Labour was just a phenomenon. A situation were somebody who did not even print a poster, won the House of Representatives election against a very experienced legislator. It is a very unusual occurrence and that was a complete tsunami. Labour won the state and that affects all other parties going forward but fortunately for us, Labour does not have a gubernatorial candidate, otherwise we would have been in trouble.

Do you have confidence in INEC?

I do not have confidence in the results declared so far by INEC and the reason is very simple. We are the people that passed that electoral law and it is very clear in the law that there are three stages of the process when you get to the polling unit. The first stage is the verification stage where you use BVAS, the second is when you thumbprint and vote after you have been verified and the third stage is uploading of the results after they have been announced at the polling unit. In a situation were you vote, result is declared at the polling unit but it is not uploaded, which is part of the process, it means that the process is immediately fatally flawed. Uploading the results 24-48 hours later is unacceptable because the essence of uploading immediately which is transparency, is completely gone. So nobody can tell me it is a transparent election because at the very least, it has not complied with the law which is a problem immediately. So INEC has a very big issue, that is why you find a lot of people calling for the cancellation of the election or a complete overview of every result and the only way to do that is by bringing every point unit’s result, put it against what the returning officers had brought from the states and compare. So I do not accept the results of the presidential election in any way, shape or form as it is presently constituted.

Tension as unknown Gunmen kill Governor, Five Others In Latest Attack On Politicians

Unknown gunmen on Saturday, killed a governor and five other people.

A provincial governor in the central Philippines and five other people were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday, his widow said, in the latest attack against local officials.

Local police said six suspects carrying rifles and dressed in uniforms similar to those worn by the armed services entered the governor’s home in Pamplona town and opened fire.

Roel Degamo, governor of Negros Oriental province, and five others were killed in the shooting, his widow said.

“Governor Degamo did not deserve that kind of death. He was serving his constituents on a Saturday,” Janice Degamo, who is also the mayor of Pamplona, said in a video posted on Facebook.

President Ferdinand Marcos condemned what he described as the “assassination” of his political ally and warned the perpetrators to “surrender now it will be your best option”.

“My government will not rest until we have brought the perpetrators of this dastardly and heinous crime to justice,” Marcos added.

The condition of four other people who were shot in the incident was not disclosed.

The politician was distributing aid to constituents when he was shot, provincial police spokesman Kym Lopez told AFP.

Police said they were searching for 10 suspects, including the six gunmen, who fled the scene in two SUVs and a pickup truck before abandoning the vehicles in a nearby city.

    Marcos Ally

Degamo, 56, is the latest target in the Philippines’ long history of attacks on politicians, and at least the third to be shot since last year’s local elections.

The Supreme Court last month declared him the rightful winner of the contest for the Negros Oriental governorship following a recount that unseated his local rival, who had previously been proclaimed the victor.

Degamo had also campaigned for Marcos in his own candidacy for president last year.

Mamintal Adiong, governor of the southern province of Lanao del Sur, was shot and wounded in February in an attack that killed his driver and three police escorts.

That same month, the vice-mayor of the northern town of Aparri, Rommel Alameda, and five other people who were travelling with him were shot dead in a highway ambush.

In the bloodiest politically motivated ambush on record, the leaders of a powerful southern clan and about two dozen followers were sentenced to life in prison for a 2009 attack on supporters of a gubernatorial election rival in Maguindanao province.

The attack left 58 people dead, including the politician’s wife and relatives, along with 32 journalists and media workers who were covering the race.

Over 20 influential SANs Line Up To Reclaim Peter Obi’s ‘Mandate

Over 20 influential SANS Line Up To Reclaim Peter Obi’s ‘Mandate

At least twenty Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) have been engaged by the Labour Party (LP) to challenge the outcome of the February 25 presidential election on behalf of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to sources within the party who spoke with Punch, the attorneys selected from various chambers were allegedly given materials that would be used as evidence in court.

Remember that on Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress candidate, the victor of the poll.

Speaking on the Labour Party’s legal action, Umar Farouk noted that certain SANs have shown a willingness in taking part in the lawsuit to support Obi.

We have more than 20 SANs who are eager to take part and contribute their services for the renewal and emergence of a new Nigeria, the speaker declared. Our attorneys are working on it as we speak.

But, this is not a topic that belongs in a newspaper. I can only say that we have begun “trekking” toward the court.

Farouk responded, “The court is not a polling box that they can destroy and put in what they want, when asked if the party leadership and the candidate had been able to gather real proof beyond the supposed isolated incidences the APC claimed the Labour Party was dangling to win over the public.

“Let the APC preempt the court if they believe they can. They had predicted the outcome of the election and declared they would win it by any means necessary. Wait and see, shall we. The judiciary is a distinct entity from INEC.

“We have observed the commission’s independence. Yet when it comes to a topic of this importance, we also need to look at how impartial the judiciary is. Let’s see what consolation it can bring to the masses. Check to see if the judiciary, like INEC, has dashed Nigerians’ hopes.

But, Farouk was unable to provide a precise timeframe for when the case would be filed.

“Based on the record we have in front of us, we are saying Obi is the winner,” he continued. But, INEC took another action. They hastily followed out their employer’s strategy.

Thus, if victory is being disputed, we have every right to declare it.

“Atiku and the PDP have the legal authority and supporting evidence to assert that their mandate was illegally obtained. The court is currently the sole arbiter.

“So many people can make the same assertion. Based on the facts that is presented to it, the judiciary renders a decision.

Tunisia President declares Black Africans as criminals

The President of Tunisia, Kais Saied have declared Black Americans as criminals.

Several Nigerians, as well as their Ivoriens, have fled their homes in Tunisia in the face of state-sanctioned attacks, taking refuge on the premises of their country’s embassy.

They were attacked by Tunisian nationals as President Kais Saied continues to deepen discrimination and unfair prejudice against dark-skinned people from Africa.

Mr Saied recently announced that sub-Saharan migrants were on a mission to weaken the country’s Islamic Arab identity and their presence in the country has to end.

“There is a criminal plan to change the composition of the demographic landscape in Tunisia and some individuals have received large sums of money to give residence to sub-Saharan migrants,” he said in a statement.

Mr Saied also spoke at his country’s national security council meeting convened on the matter and referred to the migrants who have sustained the country’s informal economy with surplus cheap labour as “hordes of illegal migrants.”

He argued that their presence in the country was a source of “violence, crime, and unacceptable acts.”

Mr Saied insisted on the “need to quickly put an end” to the migration as it was an “unspoken goal to consider Tunisia a purely African country, with no affiliation to the Arab and Islamic nations.”

Since the announcement, hundreds of sub-Saharan migrants have been victims of targeted attacks with the majority having their housing, jobs, and freedom withdrawn.

Forum Tunisien Pour les Droits Economiques et Sociaux (FTDES) an advocacy group in the country said over 300 migrants have been arrested in the onslaught on trumped-up charges.

FTDES condemned the assault on the rights of migrants and called on Tunisian authorities to “fight against hate speech, discrimination and racism against them.”

The group also tasked the government to “intervene in the event of an emergency to guarantee the dignity and rights of migrants.”

“(We) call on the Tunisian government to respect its commitments to the implementation of international agreements on the rights of migrant workers and refugees, as well as the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review and The Committee on the Protection of Migrant Workers,” it added.

The actions of the government of Tunisia are in flagrant violation of the African Charter on Human Rights and Peoples as well as their obligations under the 1951 Geneva Convention on Refugees which Tunisia adopted in 1957.
