2023 Elections: Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman  warns saboteurs

 

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), disclosed on Saturday that the Commission has received reports from its State offices and official complaints from political parties and candidates following the conclusion of last week’s elections, and that it will punish erring officials.

 

The INEC chairman stated this in Abuja during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

Prof. Yakubu asserts that when violations of any kind are proven, there will be repercussions, adding that any action taken by the Commission is without prejudice to the rights of parties and candidates to seek additional redress as provided by law.

 

Yakubu stated that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used once again for voter accreditation and result management.

 

As the Commission prepares for next week’s gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections, he promised that the glitches encountered last week on the Result Viewing Portal are being addressed.

“Since last week, the Commission has intensified its review of the technology to ensure that glitches, particularly those involving the upload of results, are resolved.

 

Prof. Yakubu stated, “We are confident that the system will operate optimally moving forward.”
