Federal Government Begins Payment of New Minimum Wage.
The federal government has officially commenced payment of the new minimum wage to civil servants on its payroll, effective Thursday, September 26. This was confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, during an interview on Thursday.

Mokwa assured that civil servants would begin receiving payment alerts reflecting the new salary structure starting from Thursday. This marks a significant step in the implementation of the revised wage structure for government employees.
It is important to note that on Tuesday, the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC) had earlier announced that the payment of the new minimum wage would be backdated to take effect from July 2024. NSIWC Chairman, Ekpo Nta, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing that the implementation aligns with the date when President Bola Tinubu approved the wage increase after the National Assembly passed the bill.
