DIIGL Commends Governor Oborevwori for Establishing New Minimum Wage Committee, Urges Prompt Implementation.
The Delta Indigenes Initiatives for Good Leadership (DIIGL), a human rights organization, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State for setting up a committee to implement the new minimum wage.
In a press release issued after its Executive Committee meeting held on August 18, 2024, DIIGL expressed optimism about the committee’s ability to deliver on its mandate and urged it to expedite its work.

The organization called for robust consultations with the Delta State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to ensure that the recommendations and implementation strategies align with workers’ aspirations.
DIIGL also appealed to Governor Oborevwori to demonstrate his commitment to workers’ welfare by ensuring swift implementation of the committee’s recommendations.
A timely increase in the minimum wage, DIIGL believes, will improve workers’ living standards and stimulate economic growth in the state. “We applaud Governor Oborevwori for this important step, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to the people’s welfare.
However, we urge him to ensure prompt implementation,” said Comrade Martins Akpore, DIIGL General Secretary.
DIIGL reiterated its commitment to advocating for the people’s rights and called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the government for successful implementation of the new minimum wage.
