DIIGL Urges Governor Oborevwori to Secure Okuama Community, Tables Four Demands

The Delta Indigenes Initiatives for Good Leadership (DIIGL) has sounded the alarm over the escalating security crisis in Okuama community, urging Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to take immediate action to secure the community. This call to action was made in a press release signed by DIIGL Secretary Ambassador Martin Akpore.

The situation in Okuama has reached a boiling point, with residents living in constant fear of attacks from unknown gunmen. The community has been plagued by violence, resulting in loss of lives and properties, and widespread displacement. Many indigenes have fled the community in search of safety.

DIIGL has specifically requested that Governor Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and other stakeholders in Delta Central prioritize the safety of the Okuama people.

Furthermore, the group has called for federal intervention, seeking an investigation into the alleged attacks by unknown gunmen pretending to be army personnel.

DIIGL urges Governor Oborevwori to take the following steps:

  1. Deploy additional security personnel to Okuama community to prevent further attacks
  2. Establish a committee to investigate the root causes of the violence and recommend solutions
  3. Engage with community leaders and stakeholders to promote dialogue and understanding
  4. Provide support and resources to displaced indigenes to facilitate their safe return

The Delta Indigenes Initiatives for Good Leadership (DIIGL) remains committed to promoting good governance and leadership in Delta State. As a non-partisan organization, DIIGL’s primary objective is to ensure that the rights and interests of Delta indigenes are protected and prioritized.

Despite Governor Oborevwori’s recent visit to Okuama, assuring the safe return of indigenes who fled the community more needs to be done to address the ongoing violence and fear among residents.

DIIGL’s call to action emphasizes the need for collective action to address the security challenges facing the state.
