EPL: I Don’t See That Happening – Martin Keown Predicts Tottenham Vs Arsenal

Football pundit and former Arsenal star, Martin Keown has predicted the Gunners’ upcoming Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The north London derby comes up immediately after the Fifa international break on Sunday.

The former Arsenal defender says he does not see Tottenham getting the better of Arsenal but expects it to be a close affair as there is not much between the two teams.

Arsenal with so many injured first team players will travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Gunners have enjoyed a fairly strong start to the season, winning twice and drawing once in their first three games.

Tottenham have not been as good, winning one, drawing one, and losing one of their opening three encounters.

Keown believes Mikel Arteta’s side can continue their run of form and see off Spurs’ threat

He said on talkSPORT, “I like what Spurs are doing, I like the way they play, the unity in the stadium, the togetherness. It’s a difficult situation.

“I think maybe now they will be concentrating more on themselves. The last time Arsenal went there it was more about stopping Arsenal from becoming champions.

“Now maybe the new manager is setting a new culture and they have got their own trophies they want to win. It’s been a long time. We have to respect Spurs.

“It’s difficult. You want to go there with your best players but they’re not there. Calafiori is another one who has picked up an injury, [Mikel] Merino, the new signing, the one who would have come in for Rice, it’s not been a lucky start for Arsenal.

“What they have to do now is make their own luck and go into that cauldron and come out with some points.”

On whether he would be shocked if Spurs beat Arsenal on Sunday, he replied, “I think it probably would, yeah. I think it would be a huge blow, that’s for certain but I don’t see that happening.”

  • Judge Awards $100m To Inmate Who Sued Diddy For ‘Sexual Assault’

American singer and music mogul, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been ordered to pay $100 million to an inmate who accused him of s3xual assault.

The judgement was given in default.

A court issues a default judgment for a plaintiff when the defendant fails to respond to a summon.

Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith had accused Diddy of drugging and sexually assaulting him at a party in Detroit, Michigan, in 1997.

Cardello-Smith reportedly met the rapper in the 1990s while working in Detroit’s restaurant and hospitality industry.

He had testified to the court that the 54-year-old singer offered him $2.3 million to drop the lawsuit but rejected the money.

Cardello-Smith, who will be in prison until at least 2036 for first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping in unrelated cases, argued that he produced documents showing Combs’s name in a prison visitation log.

Anna Marie Anzalone, the Lenawee County Circuit Court judge, awarded the $100 million to Cardello-Smith after Diddy failed to appear for the lawsuit hearing on September 9.

Anzalone also ordered the rapper to pay $10 million each month beginning from October 1 for 10 months.

Speaking with BBC, Diddy and his legal representatives denied knowing about the lawsuit’s existence, adding that they were not properly served notice of it.

They also maintained that the rapper never knew Cardello-Smith and accused him of committing “fraud on the court”.

The rapper’s legal representatives also vowed to fight against the ruling.

Diddy has been in the public eye since November after several women, including Cassie Ventura, the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, took him to court, claiming they were sexually assaulted.

Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, Diddy’s former producer, also filed a lawsuit alleging that the rapper sexually harassed, drugged, and threatened him for over a year.

In March, the United States Department of Homeland Security raided two properties linked to Diddy.

In May, a video surfaced showing Combs assaulting Cassie in 2016.

Diddy, who had denied Cassie’s claims, however, apologised. He said he was “truly sorry” and that his actions were “inexcusable”.

He recently sold his entire stake in Revolt, the media company he co-founded in 2013.

  • NBS Report: Osun Not Taking Another Loan – Alimi

NBS Report: Osun Not Taking Another Loan – Alimi

Osun State Government has once again denied reports that it was planning to obtain a new loan.

This is as the state government maintained that the rise in the monthly loan repayment on the state’s foreign loan was not a result of any borrowing by the incumbent administration in the state.

This was made known by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, in a statement on Tuesday in Osogbo.

The statement was in reaction to a report credited to the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, which listed Osun State as number 10 among states with high debt service payments.

The NBS report had stated that, “Osun State, located in Nigeria’s southwest, is culturally known for the Osun-Osogbo Festival. In 2024, Osun recorded N3.4bn in external debt service costs, up from N1.57bn in 2023. This represents an increase of N1.83bn or about 116 per cent.”

Alimi revealed that the rise in the repayment on foreign loans by the state was due to the prevailing exchange rate of the Naira to the United States Dollar.

Alimi said, “The public would kindly recall that repayment on foreign loans is usually done based on the prevailing exchange rate of the local currency (Naira) to the US Dollar.

“It is also important to put on record that Osun State was plunged into high local and foreign indebtedness in the 12 years of APC government in the state.

“As the repayment is done in line with the prevailing rate, there is an increase in the naira value of monthly loan repayment on the foreign loans portfolio of all the states of the federation.

“The inevitable increase, therefore, is not only peculiar to Osun, rather, it applies to all the states and the Federal Government. The public is assured that the state financial management is responsible and sustainable without any new indebtedness.”

  • Very Soon You Will See Some Banks Get Prosecuted – EFCC Boss Talks Tough

This forthright declaration was made on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)’s 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference.

    efcc

Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has firmly committed to a thorough and vigorous enforcement of the nation’s financial laws. The Commission aims to thoroughly cleanse the banking sector and protect it from the harmful effects of criminal activities by rogue individuals.

This forthright declaration was made on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)’s 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, which was convened under the thought-provoking theme: “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: The State of Play and the Way Forward.”

The conference was held at the opulent Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Speaking tough on what will be done, Olukoyede said: “I make bold to tell you with every sense of humility that we are no longer folding our arms. As a matter of fact some of the mind-boggling, major financial fraud and onslaught that have been carried out against the economy ran through the banking industry. We are committed to working with the institute in sanitizing the financial services sector through robust enforcement of our financial laws and insulating it from impact from criminals both from within and from without.”

Olukoyede further reiterated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to the enforcement of extant laws and penal sanctions, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of their stature or position within the banking and financial sector, would be spared in the cleansing endeavor.

“In as much as we are ready to work with you to sanitize the system, we must also note that it is extremely important to state that when there are criminal infractions, penal sanctions will follow. We have compiled our documents; we have made the necessary investigations, we have concluded and very soon you will see some banks get prosecuted and top officials prosecuted. We need to just do something drastic to bring everybody in line. To do the right thing is extremely important. In a system where there are no penal sanctions for criminal infractions, that system will never survive.

“From our experience with the investigation of financial crimes involving members of the banking profession, there is gross contempt for regulations that bother on impunity. Operators secretly devise means to circumvent regulations and rules in a desperate bid for higher yields. Sharp practices such as forex round-tripping, defrauding of investors through phantom charges and complicity in money laundering and illicit financial flow involving politically-exposed persons continue to undermine the integrity of the sector and by extension the nation’s economy.

“Look at yourselves in the mirror and leave this place with renewed commitment to professionalism and determination to provide services that will assist the growth and development of the Nigerian economy,”

    the EFCC boss stated.

  • ‘Why Not Wizkid, Drake’ – Tems Responds To Rumours She Was Pregnant For Future

‘Why Not Wizkid, Drake’ – Tems Responds To Rumours She Was Pregnant For Future

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has addressed rumours that she was pregnant for American rapper, Future.

DAILY POST recalls that Tems sparked pregnancy rumours after she was spotted at Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2024 London Fashion Week show in December last year, donning a black dress with a purple fluffy coat and matching heels, and many thought that the way the dress was clinging to her body suggested that she was pregnant.

Appearing on a recent episode of ‘The Breakfast Club’, Tems questioned the choice of Future, who was allegedly responsible for her supposed pregnancy.

She wondered why those behind the rumours didn’t claim Wizkid or Drake was responsible for her supposed pregnancy.

“People just take the most controversial things. Because I was thinking like, why am I pregnant for Future? Why Future? Because that’s the craziest,” she said.

“Why not Wizkid? Why not Drake? Why not somebody else? If it was Drake, it would be the same thing but the reason why it is Future is because of his reputation.

“He has about five kids. And has a reputation of being a ladies’ man.”

Tems also revealed the top rap artistes that inspired her.

She mentioned Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Ab-Soul, Andre 3000 and J.Cole.

She was featured in Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ album in 2021.

J.Cole was one of only two featured artistes on Tems’ debut album, ‘Born In The Wild’, which was released this year.

“People have been asking questions about what is happening in Okuama. I want to let you know that the killing of 17 personnel of the armed forces of Nigeria will not go unpunished.

“Do you remember how long it took to get Osama Bin Laden. So, we are working on getting the killers of the 17 military personnel. No matter how long it takes, we will hunt them down,” he said.

According to him, the Defence headquarters was reviewing operations in the North West Zone of the country with a view for better synergy considering and results noting that the various operations will soon be brought together and harmonised under one Commander for more effectiveness.

He urged communities in the North West to desist from supporting or providing terrorists with information, noting that when troops who were embarking on a fighting patrol had their MRAP vehicle stuck in the swamp, it was locals of the community who informed the terrorists and they came and were making social media event of the situation.

“Please do not give them any support. Do not give them information on the movement of troops because this is what is happening. Most of the area where this thing is continuing because we have informants within the communities,” he appealed.

  • AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Why I Substituted Ndidi For Onyeka Against Rwanda – Eguavoen

AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Why I Substituted Ndidi For Onyeka Against Rwanda – Eguavoen

Caretaker head coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen has explained why he substituted Wilfred Ndidi for Frank Onyeka during his side’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier 0-0 draw against Rwanda on Tuesday.

With 20 minutes left before the end of the match in Kigali, Eguavoen opted to replace Ndidi with Onyeka.

Ndidi’s substitution came as a surprise to many.

The Leicester City midfielder was one of the best players on the pitch as he created the first big chance of the second half when he gave a precise pass to the feet of Moses Simon.

But the FC Nantes winger couldn’t find the back of the net.

Speaking at his post-match conference, Eguavoen said he brought Onyeka in because Ndidi has worked tirelessly.

“We were all over the place, so in as much as we were possessing the ball, we weren’t imposing any threat either and Ndidi has worked tirelessly,” Eguavoen told reporters.

“For us to bring in more energy and balance in the team, we had to do that and you all know Onyeka is a box-to-box player, he wasn’t instructed to stay there, once we go up there, you could see, go take the tape and watch.

“Few times, he went past opponents up there, he got a lot of energy, so he can run box-to-box.

“When the action is over, he is back in his position also.”

  • LP Crisis: Senator Kingibe Slams Abure, Backs Otti’s 29-Man Reconciliation Panel

Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory district has slammed the party’s embattled national chairman, Julius Abure.

Speaking on Tuesday, Kingibe threw her support for the 29-member caretaker committee established by the national leader of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, Abia Governor Alex Otti, and party stakeholders last week to oversee an expansive national convention.

Kingibe gave her endorsement at the launch of a four-day free medical outreach, which she facilitated for her constituents in Abuja.

The free medical outreach, organised in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, attracted many people seeking eye tests, free treatment, and referrals for suspected cataract cases.

The senator, represented by her senior legislative aide, Dr Chris Omofoma, told The Punch that every LP member knows the tenure of the National Chairman, Julius Abure, and his National Working Committee ended as far back as June 2023.

While noting that Abure and his loyalists have yet to accept this reality, Kingibe explained that Otti and Obi, whom Abure is now opposing, had previously requested an extension of his tenure by an extra year to help recover from the 2023 presidential election loss.

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, his National Secretary, Umar Farouk, and the National Youth Leader, Kennedy Ahanotu, were notably absent from the enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held in Umuahia, the state capital, on Wednesday.

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, had called the meeting to resolve the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

However, the Abure-led NWC has opposed the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee, describing it as null and void.

She said, “There is really no crisis in Labour. Abure’s NWC refuses to admit that their tenure has ended. Even INEC has clearly stated that Abure’s tenure ended in June 2023.

However, Alex Otti and Peter Obi extended it by one year so the party could recover from the (2023) election losses before conducting the national convention. So, their tenure was extended to June 8, 2024, which has now lapsed.

“So, whatever Alex Otti, Obi, and other party stakeholders are doing is in line with the constitution and INEC guidelines. It is now up to Abure to accept the reality that his tenure is over, and it is time to do what is necessary.

“I fully support the Nenadi Usman-led committee. That is the way forward. Anything else from the Abure-led NWC is illegal.”

Continuing, the FCT senator described Tuesday’s medical outreach as a great success.

According to her, the mission was to provide essential medical services to 5,000 members of her constituency in the FCT.

  • Peter Obi Slams FG For Charging Peaceful Protesters With Treason

Former presidential aspirant, Peter Obi has criticized the Tinubu-led federal government for charging the #EndBadGovernance protesters with treason.

Obi said the federal government mismanaged the protest even after the citizens gave one month’s notice before the protest.

Speaking with News Central on Monday, on his opinion concerning the treason charge, the former governor of Anambra State said even when he was in office he never used police to arrest protesters.

He argued that it was wrong for the federal government to fail to sit and discuss with the peaceful hunger protesters but move ahead to arrest them with the police.

Obi said: “I’ve said everybody, they have right to protest. I said it before. I would discuss with every protester. They even warned government months before they did that. I would sit down and discuss with them. People protested when I was governor. They even called strike. They shut down schools for months, our hospitals. I was talking with them.

“I have never as a politician, as a governor ask any police to go and arrest anybody. It shouldn’t be. In a democracy, people have right to say no. I’ve said it every day. If I’m managing this facility and everybody loves me, I will resign. This is me.

“Wherever I am, I believe that I have enemies. My job is to convince them. If everybody loves me, that is a problem. There are people who hate me because I’m just Peter. They don’t even need to give me any reason. It is my job to convince them on why it should be. I convinced the teachers why we should return schools to missionaries and they see the result.

“You just have to. It’s a constant thing. Whenever you’re a leader, you’re a communicator. You listen, you talk to the people. The agitators, the protesters, how are they talking to them?”
