Nigerian Officials Involved In Evacuation ‘Flee Sudan’
As a result of the controversy surrounding the evacuation procedure, the future of numerous Nigerians stranded in Sudan is uncertain.
A source with knowledge of the evacuation operation told Ejes Gist News Nigeria that some Nigerians scheduled for evacuation were abandoned by embassy officials, who allegedly joined their families in Cairo, the Egyptian capital.

As a result of the closure of Sudanese airspace, flights intended to transport people out of Sudan have landed in Egypt and neighbouring nations.
The Federal Government had arranged for evacuees from Sudan to be transported by road to Cairo, where they would board flights back home.
After the warring factions in Sudan agreed to a three-day ceasefire, the evacuation process began.
Some Nigerians were stranded en route to Cario, but the situation was resolved due to the intervention of high-ranking government officials.
On Friday, however, the warring factions in Sudan extended the ceasefire by three days.
However, the evacuation process was halted as officials reportedly fled Sudan.
This resulted in a protest at the evacuation site in Khartoum.
The protesters reportedly held a bureau de change employee, Ibrahim Abdallah, for ransom and brutally beat him.
In addition to receiving a cash transfer intended to fund the trip, Abdallah was allegedly involved in bus provision.
In audio and video clips made available to Ejes Gist News Nigeria, Abdallah can be heard stating that the $250,000 sent as a deposit has been depleted.
He disclosed that the remaining funds have not yet been sent, and that about 25 buses billed to evacuate other stranded Nigerians have since withdrawn from the operation, and officials have not responded.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), stated on Wednesday that there are at least three million Nigerians in the East African nation, but that the Federal Government will evacuate as many as possible.

Dabiri-Erewa did not respond to a question about the most recent situation in Sudan because her phone line was busy and she did not respond to a text message.
Gabriel Odu, the spokesperson for NIDCOM, stated that he lacked the authority to comment on the matter and requested that our correspondent contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for further information.
However, a senior NEMA official who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter stated that it was impossible for the officials to abandon the stranded Nigerians.
“The NEMA Director General is on-site to oversee the evacuation. Therefore, it is impossible for his subordinates to flee while he is on the ground, as stated by the source.
