Former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has threatened legal action against the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), demanding an immediate retraction and an unreserved apology over alleged defamatory remarks made during a recent television interview.

The warning was issued in a formal letter of claim dated September 7, 2026, written by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan acting on behalf of El-Rufai. Beyond requesting a retraction and apology, the legal team demanded the preservation of all relevant evidence concerning the broadcast.

El-Rufai’s lawyers complained about several statements made during a programme broadcast on September 3, 2026. The comments in question touched upon topics including bandits, killings, demolitions, ransom payments, and El-Rufai’s alleged conduct while serving as Governor of Kaduna State.

Describing the broadcasted statements as defamatory, the solicitors pointed out that the material remains accessible across terrestrial television, satellite television, and online streaming platforms.

They emphasized that El-Rufai reserves the right to pursue all available legal remedies should the issue remain unresolved.
