Sadness has gripped the family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, following the death of his aged mother, Hajiya Umma, on Friday.
The family confirmed the passing in a statement issued the same day, announcing that the deceased had joined the faithful after a prolonged battle with age-related health challenges.
According to family sources, Hajiya Umma’s condition had taken a turn for the worse in recent times, with insiders revealing that her health deteriorated further after she became aware of her son’s recent detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The emotional toll of the situation, sources said, compounded the elderly woman’s existing health struggles, leaving the family devastated.

A family member disclosed that El-Rufai had been personally and closely managing his mother’s health before her demise, doing everything within his means to ensure her comfort.
In a statement announcing her passing, the family prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive Hajiya Umma’s shortcomings and grant her a place in Aljannatul Firdaus.
“May Allah forgive her and admit her into the highest rank of paradise,” the family prayed.
The news of her death has since drawn condolences from associates, political allies, and residents across Kaduna and beyond, with many describing her as a matriarch who raised a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.
As of the time of filing this report, details regarding funeral arrangements were yet to be released, but sources indicated that burial rites would be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.
