Nnewi, Anambra — A chilling tale of betrayal has unfolded in the commercial town of Nnewi, Anambra State, where a self-acclaimed man of God has been arrested for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 16-year-old girl who was brought to him for spiritual healing.

The suspect, Evangelist Favour Ezani, who parades himself as the General Overseer of a Pentecostal church in the Amichi community of Nnewi South Local Government Area, is currently in police custody. His arrest was carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), a security outfit established by the Anambra State Government.

According to reports, the victim, Miss Precious Okafor (name changed to protect her identity), was handed over to the pastor by her aunt for “special deliverance.” Instead of finding spiritual healing, the teenager became the victim of repeated sexual exploitation that left her pregnant.

A Pastor’s Betrayal

The shocking details emerged after a security personnel from Igboukwu, a neighboring community, reported the matter to the authorities. The victim’s aunt, who had entrusted the girl to the pastor, reportedly discovered the pregnancy. Upon interrogation, the teenager named the man of God as the one responsible.

The police spokesperson for the security outfit, Karen James, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect had admitted to the crime.

“He confessed to the act and also revealed that he mixed bitter leaf with other herbs for the girl in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy and avoid public shame,” James said.

The spokesperson added that the pastor, upon arrest, pleaded with security operatives to temper justice with mercy, promising to take care of the victim’s medical bills if allowed to go free.

A Victim’s Painful Testimony

Narrating her ordeal, the 16-year-old victim recounted how her nightmare began in November 2025. She was taken to the pastor’s residence by her aunt, who sought to have her delivered from what was described as “stubbornness”—all without the consent of her mother, who resides in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“Daddy Ezani started having forceful sex with me a few days after I arrived in his house for the special deliverance,” the teenager said, her voice trembling with pain.

She explained that her aunt had consulted the pastor about her behavior after she relocated back to the village from Lagos. In response, she said, Ezani told her family that she “came from the evil seas of the world” and required urgent and special deliverance from God.

“He has slept with me countless times inside his church, farm, and residence before the rescue came,” she revealed.

The teenager further disclosed that she does not know her father and that her mother is living in Port Harcourt. She is an indigene of Amichi and is now desperately seeking help.

“As I speak to you now, blood is coming out from my private part as a result of the mixed concoctions Daddy Ezani gave me to drink to abort the pregnancy. I have no money to go to the hospital for proper treatment,” she added, painting a grim picture of her current physical condition.

The case has reignited conversations about the increasing incidents of sexual abuse perpetrated by individuals who hide under the cloak of spirituality to exploit vulnerable members of society.

Residents of Amichi and surrounding communities have expressed outrage, calling for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect to serve as a deterrent to others who might abuse their positions of trust.

As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command was yet to issue an official statement regarding the case, but security sources confirmed that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The victim, meanwhile, remains in urgent need of medical attention, with observers calling on the state government and relevant child protection agencies to intervene swiftly.
