EPL: He’s Unselfish, Intelligent – Patrick Vieira Advises Arsenal To Sign 20-Year-Old Star

Arsenal legend, Patrick Vieira has urged his old club to sign 20-year-old Colombia international, Jhon Duran.

Vieira said the Aston Villa star is unselfish, intelligent and the right player to take the Gunners to the next level up front.

Arsenal were credited with an interest in a host of big-name forwards throughout the summer.

The likes of Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Dusan Vlahovic were all linked with the Premier League North London club.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has decided to keep faith with Kai Havertz in the No.9 role.

But Vieira believes Duran could be a perfect fit for Arteta’s side.

“I loved his performance against Bayern Munich,’ Vieira told bettingexpert’s official website.

“He’s the right player for Arsenal – quick, unselfish, solid in the air, technically skilled, and intelligent in his movement.”

  • Anambra: LP Guber Aspirant Nwosu Condemns Soludo’s Proposed N1bn Fountain Tower

Anambra: LP Guber Aspirant Nwosu Condemns Soludo’s Proposed N1bn Fountain Tower

The Labour Party governorship aspirant for the upcoming 2025 election in Anambra has condemned the plan of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to build a close to N1 billion water fountain in his local government secretariat.

Soludo and his executive council had, in the last meeting, approved the construction of some roads in Anambra State, including the building of a water fountain in Aguata Local Government Secretariat, where he hails from.

Nwosu, in a post shared on his verified X handle, condemned the move, describing it as a waste of public funds.

He said: “We note the recent infrastructural projects approved by the Anambra State Exco. While the construction of Nwagu Agulu to Nnobi to Nnewi Road and the Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija Road are germane, the proposed Light of the Nation Tower and Fountain at Ekwulobia begs the question.

“Such landmarks should decorate the frontiers of Anambra State. Unquestionably, the resources meant for the tower can be better deployed to repair the numerous cratered and badly dilapidated roads statewide or for upgrading the state’s security infrastructure.”

Nwosu lamented that such should be expected in an election period where the governor is desperate to make a mark.

“Service and project delivery are core competencies of any government. They ought to be salutary. However, waiting for the cusp of an election to commence necessary programmes and projects is self-evident politicking. Such ploys are hardly in good faith. And haste makes waste!” he added.

Governor Fubara Orders Shutdown of NNPC, Oil Companies in Rivers? Truth Emerges

Fact Check: False Claim Circulates on Governor Sim Fubara Shutting Down NNPC, Oil Companies in Rivers State

In recent hours, a viral social media claim falsely reported that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara had ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and all oil companies operating within Rivers State. According to the claim, Governor Fubara allegedly declared that “no allocation for Rivers State, no oil for Nigeria,” and dared President Bola Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike to respond to his purported decision. The rumor also suggested that Nigeria’s oil production ranking plummeted instantly as a result.

However, after a thorough fact-check by Ejes Gist News, it has been confirmed that these reports are false. No reputable or verifiable news sources have published information supporting this claim. Additionally, there is no record on Governor Fubara’s official social media channels or public statements indicating any such action was taken against the NNPC or oil companies operating in Rivers State.

No Verified Sources Supporting Shutdown Claims

Upon investigating this viral news, Ejes Gist News found no credible sources confirming Governor Fubara’s alleged shutdown order. Major Nigerian media outlets and official government channels remain silent on this supposed development. Reliable news organizations have not issued reports or statements corroborating the claim, further casting doubt on its credibility.

Governor Fubara’s Social Media Accounts Show No Such Declaration

A review of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s official social media profiles, as well as statements from his administration, revealed no announcement or directive related to suspending oil operations in Rivers State. His recent posts and public engagements remain focused on development projects and administrative updates, with no reference to the viral claim circulating online.

Court Orders CBN to Halt Allocations to Rivers State, But No Action by Governor Fubara

While there has been recent news related to Rivers State’s federal allocations, it does not involve any action by Governor Fubara. A federal high court in Abuja recently ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt financial allocations to Rivers State temporarily.

This legal decision has sparked discussions regarding the state’s finances but is not connected to any actions against the oil industry or NNPC by the governor.

    False News Rivers State Government.

The Rivers State Government led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara has also refuted the  viral social media claim suggesting he has halted oil operations in Rivers State. On Wednesday, a federal high court in Abuja ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop disbursing financial allocations to the Rivers State government.

    Conclusion

The rumor that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has shut down oil operations in Rivers State due to federal allocation issues is entirely unfounded. Obasanjo A Repository Of Knowledge – US Ambassador Richards Mills

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richards Mills, on Thursday, described former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo as a repository of knowledge.

He added that the former leader’s Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, captured the real hope, which all Nigerians wanted to see in no distant future.

Mills made these disclosures while reacting on his visit to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, and the penthouse residence of the former president.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the former president, Kehinde Akinyemi, the visiting ambassador hinted that he had an open discussion with Obasanjo during the period.

After about an hour of private session, Mills embarked on a tour of the edifice before departing the complex, saying: “it is fascinating. It captures the real moment in time, when there is so much hope in Nigeria. And, I think we all want to see that come back. It is also a slight of history for people to see.”

Of his session with Obasanjo, Mills said it was very viable, adding: “I had an open and frank discussion with the former President. He is a very good friend of the United States and we always learn with a visit to the former President Obasanjo.”

Obasanjo said that since the ambassador reported in the country in August, it has been a very busy schedule to host him and it was therefore pleasant to be his guest today.

Court Rules on Suit Seeking to Remove Ebie as NDDC Chairman

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, dismissed a lawsuit brought by oil-producing communities from Bayelsa and Delta State.

The plaintiffs challenged President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Chiedu Ebie as the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), arguing that Ebie was unqualified as he was not from the region with the highest oil production.

Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the plaintiffs lacked locus standi, or the legal standing, to file the case. Citing Section 24(2) of the NDDC Act, the court concluded that members of the NDDC board and other officials are legally protected from lawsuits related to their official duties.

    Ebie’s Reaction

Chiedu Ebie expressed satisfaction with the judgment, which he described as “well-considered” and “courageously sound.”

He emphasized that the ruling clarifies the provisions of the NDDC Act regarding appointments and supports President Tinubu’s compliance with relevant laws when appointing public officials.

Appeal Court Reserves Judgement on IPOB’s Terrorist Proscription Appeal

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has reserved its judgment on an appeal filed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), contesting its designation as a terrorist organization by the Federal Government.

A three-member panel led by Justice Hamma Barka adjourned the matter after both IPOB and the government, represented by their legal teams, concluded their final arguments.

Counsel from the Federal Ministry of Justice, Oyilade Koleosho, appeared for the government, while a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chukwuma-Machukwu Umeh, led IPOB’s defense team.

IPOB’s detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had previously requested to join as an interested party in the appeal.

The group’s appeal challenges the 2017 ruling by the late Justice Abdul Abdu-Kafarati, who issued an order that effectively outlawed IPOB’s activities across Nigeria.

The group is asking the appellate court to overturn this ruling, asserting that the proscription lacks a legal basis and that IPOB has been unfairly branded a terrorist organization.

Justice Abdu-Kafarati’s ruling, secured through an ex-parte motion from former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, declared IPOB’s activities illegal, especially within Nigeria’s South-East and South-South regions.

The judge also mandated the Attorney-General to publish the proscription order in the official gazette and two national newspapers. A subsequent motion by IPOB to overturn the ruling was dismissed in January 2018, with the court maintaining that the group’s actions posed a security threat.

In its appeal, IPOB contends that the proscription did not meet the legal requirements outlined in the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act of 2013.

The organization argues that it lacks any history of violence, stating that its activities are characterized by peaceful assemblies and symbolic displays, rather than armed confrontations.

IPOB claims that the evidence supporting its non-violent nature was overlooked by the initial ruling.

IPOB further questioned why groups like Fulani herdsmen, often linked with violent incidents, have not been similarly designated, suggesting that selective enforcement is at play.

The appellate court, after hearing from both parties, indicated that a date for judgment would be communicated in due course.

  • Ekiti Govt Pays N300m Compensation To 377 Land Owners For Airport Construction

Ekiti Govt Pays N300m Compensation To 377 Land Owners For Airport Construction

The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday, paid the sum of N300 million to 377 land owners, whose properties were acquired for the construction of the Ekiti State Agro Allied Cargo Airport in Ado Ekiti capital city.

Dispelling insinuation that the airport project was a misplaced priority, Oyebanji posited that the facility was intended to expand the state’s economy, open a new vista of economic opportunities, and investments as well as bolster industrial drives.

The Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, who represented Oyebanji spoke in Ado Ekiti while disbursing cheques to land owners from Ijan, Igbemo, Afao, Iworoko and others.

She said the event marks the third and last tranche of compensation payments to individuals and families affected by the land acquisition for the realisation of the ambitious Ekiti State Cargo Airport facility.

The governor, however, advised those whose lands were acquired in the public interest and have not been compensated not to disturb contractors on sites, assuring that all their expectations shall be met to indemnify their losses.

He clarified further that the vision behind the airport was to build an infrastructure that would not only improve the state’s connectivity to national and international markets but would also serve as a gateway for agriculture, commerce, and tourism to fuel local businesses.

“The Ekiti State Cargo Airport Project was conceived not just as an infrastructural achievement but as a critical pillar in our mission to drive economic diversification, stimulate local industry, and create new opportunities for the people of Ekiti.

“We have a vision of an airport that will not only improve the state’s connectivity to national and international markets but also serve as a gateway for agriculture, commerce, and tourism, fueling local business growth and attracting investments that will benefit our communities”.

Oyebanji saluted the farmers and landowners for their sacrifices, commitments and patience, saying the payment of compensation was geared towards appreciating their patriotism to a lofty and common cause.

“The claimants we are honouring here today have demonstrated an inspiring commitment to the future of Ekiti, agreeing to adjust their lives for a greater good that will ultimately benefit every citizen of this state.

“To you, the landowners, I say: thank you for your patience and understanding. Today’s ceremony marks the disbursement of the third and final tranche of compensation to 377 claimants.

“Let this be a testament to our administration’s dedication to fulfilling its promises. We understand that the prompt and fair compensation of those affected is not only a legal obligation but a moral one. Our sacrifice and cooperation with this administration are deeply valued”, he said.

Oyebanji added that his government is focused on creating a propitious environment, where every Ekiti citizen can feel the positive impact of the airport facility, through increased business opportunities, job creation, and upward infrastructural improvements.

Addressing the claimants, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Geographic Information System, Lands and Survey, Prof. James Olaleye, said the compensation serves as indemnity against losses suffered by the land owners, which he said would help in putting a soothing balm on their pains.

“I hope those concerned will understand the genuine efforts of the present government to bring all their worries to the past. I hereby assure all the claimants who are being owed compensations for other project sites, that very soon, all their dues will be settled.

“Let me urge our people to refrain from disturbing ongoing projects through threats of violence and other acts that may hinder the peace of the state”, he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the benefitting communities, Chief Ojo Awe and Mr Olufemi Oso, commended the governor for being sympathetic to the plights of the land owners through expeditious payments of the pending compensation.

“On behalf of the nine communities that donated lands for the construction of the airport, we appreciate the governor. Though it was painful that we lost our property, we thank God that the airport project is gradually coming to fruition and it will become a gain to all of us in the future”, he said.

  • Tinubu Breaks Silence as Northern Governors Oppose Tax Reform Bills

Tinubu Breaks Silence as Northern Governors Oppose Tax Reform Bills

The administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has clarified that the proposed tax reform bills aim to benefit all Nigerian states, dismissing concerns that the bills target the North.

This assurance was conveyed in a statement on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Ex-Senate President, Joseph Wayas’ Remains May Travel 7 Hours By Dilapidated Road For Burial

The statement follows opposition from the Northern Governors’ Forum, representing 19 northern states, who at their meeting on October 28, 2024, rejected the derivation-based VAT distribution model proposed in the new tax reform bills under review by the National Assembly.

Governor Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, chairman of the forum, issued the communiqué.

The forum’s meeting, attended by traditional rulers led by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, expressed concerns over the reform, particularly the VAT distribution model, which they argued could disadvantage the region.

I Miss Her Badly And Envy Her New Man – Man Who Left His Virtuous Ex-Girlfriend Laments As Someone Else Marries Her

Onanuga emphasized that the Tinubu administration values the support of the northern governors and traditional leaders in tackling national security issues but sees it necessary to clarify misconceptions about the tax reform’s intent.

“President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council recently endorsed reforms to streamline tax administration, eliminate redundancies, and enhance efficiency across the nation,” he said, explaining that these reforms emerged after a comprehensive review of current tax laws.

Details of the Proposed Tax Bills:

    1. Nigeria Tax Bill – Aims to reduce multiple taxation and simplify the tax obligations for individuals and businesses, enhancing Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.
    2. Nigeria Tax Administration Bill (NTAB) – Seeks to unify tax administrative processes across federal, state, and local governments, easing taxpayer compliance nationwide.
    3. Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill – Proposes renaming the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) to better reflect its federal mandate.
    4. Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill – Proposes the creation of a Joint Revenue Board to replace the Joint Tax Board, facilitating federal-state tax authority cooperation, with a Tax Ombudsman to handle taxpayer complaints.

Onanuga highlighted that the bills would not increase existing taxes or tax rates but instead improve the efficiency and equity of tax distribution. He noted that under the current system, tax administration is fragmented across multiple levels, leading to inefficiencies and confusion.

Regarding the contentious derivation-based VAT distribution model, Onanuga explained that the proposed system aims for a fairer allocation by considering where goods and services are supplied or consumed, rather than only where tax is collected.

“Northern states that supply food and other products should not lose out simply because these items are VAT-exempt or consumed elsewhere,” he said.

The administration sees these reforms as vital for revenue generation, job creation, and overall economic growth. Tinubu’s spokesperson assured that the bills are designed to benefit all regions, urging the National Assembly to support the reforms to fund critical development across Nigeria

  • Stakeholders Advocate Increased Women Representation In Governance

Stakeholders Advocate Increased Women Representation In Governance

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), in collaboration with the Canadian Government, has canvassed greater representation of women in leadership and political roles across the country.

The Institute bemoaned the glaring gender gap in Nigeria’s existing political environment, noting that women only make up 10 percent of members of the National Assembly, in contrast to other African nations like South Africa and Rwanda.

Titlayo Daniel, NILDS representative, stated this during a two-day UN women training held in Sagamu and Ikenne-Remo local government areas of Ogun State.

The training themed, ‘Enhancing Representation: Female Legislators Constitueney Outreach in Nigeria’, had 300 women from various groups in attendance.

Daniel maintained that women, when included in leadership roles despite facing several obstacles, promote more inclusive policies, tackle poverty and prioritize issues related to education and health, among others.

She noted that to this end, NILDS, with support from UN Women, has provided trainings for women politicians to help build their capacities on gender equality.

Daniel said, “It is no more a news that from the local to the national level, women’s leadership and political participation are restricted.

“When women are included in decision-making processes, societies prosper. It has been demonstrated globally that women in leadership promote more inclusive policies, tackle poverty and inequality more effectively, and prioritize issues related to education, healthcare, and social justice.

“The current political landscape still reflects the stark gender disparity.

“As of now, women make up less than 10% of the members of the National Assembly. This means that the voices of more than half of our population are largely absent in critical decision-making bodies.

“This is rather an embarrassing statistics for Nigeria as the giant of Africa when compared with other African countries such as Rwanda with 61.3%, South Africa with 46.2%, Malawi with 41%, Sierra Leone with 30.4% of women representation in Parliament.

“We back gender equality advocates in calling on political parties, governments and others to do their part in empowering women. NILDS with support from UN Women advocates for legislative and constitutional reforms to ensure women’s fair access to political spheres.”

In her remarks, the lawmaker representing Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North Federal Constituency, Adewunmi Onanuga, called for more participation of women in politics, urging them to look inward for opportunities rather than segregating themselves.

Similarly, Abosede Erinle-Bright, a community leader in Sagamu LGA, stressed that education plays a significant part when selecting who to be entrusted with political powers and advised mothers to prioritize investing in the education of their female child.

The league organisers emphasized the need for crowd control and urged clubs to desist from restriction of live streaming of matches.

The NNL chairman, Mr George Aluo, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the coaches and media managers workshop in Ikenne.

Aluo assured clubs participating in the league of prompt payments of referees indemnities.

“We are dedicated to creating a league where clubs can achieve victory solely on their performance, regardless of venue. Referees’ indemnities will be paid on time to support unbiased officiating,” Aluo stated in Ikenne.

“It’s time to end the cycle of ‘we rob you, you rob us.’

“The NNL board remains impartial and will not favor any club. Any grievances should be directed to the secretariat, where it will be addressed promptly.”.

The new season will commence on Saturday November 30.

The Nigeria Premier Football League has restored the licenses of newly registered players of seven clubs from the nine defaulters.

FCCPC Uncovers Cartels Inflating Food Prices In Nigeria

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, claimed it has uncovered cartels responsible for prices of goods and food manipulation in Nigeria.

The commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, Tunji Bello, disclosed this recently while addressing stakeholders during a one-day engagement on exploitative pricing in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

This comes as Bello highlighted how in the poultry sector, influential players are dictating prices, severely impacting smaller producers.

“Small poultry owners previously sold a day-old chick for between N480 and N590 and still made a profit. However, the entry of two major market players changed that,” he stated, choosing to withhold their names.

“They operate in a mafia-like manner. If you attempt to negotiate with one, they tip off the others, ensuring uniform pricing,” Bello lamented.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s economic interventions, including the removal of tariffs on food imports, value-added tax on pharmaceuticals and medical devices, tax waivers for businesses and public transport, and facilitating easy credit for converting vehicles from petrol to CNG, should have impacted the prices of goods and services.

“It is only fair that our businessmen and traders share the benefits of these measures with consumers through reduced prices,” Bello stated.

This comes as Nigeria’s inflation increased to 32.70 percent in September, resulting in high cost of living among Nigerians.

Court Dismisses Pro-Wike Lawmakers’ Suit Against INEC, PDP as Amaewhule-Led Group Secretly Withdraws Affidavit Confirming Defection to APC

Hon Martin Chike Amaewhule-led pro-Wike lawmakers in Rivers State have secretly withdrawn part of an affidavit they sworn to at the Federal High Court in Abuja, confirming their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), SaharaReporters has learnt.

The lawmakers’ defection followed a rift between Nyesom Wike, the immediate former Governor of Rivers State and his predecessor, Siminalayi Fubara. The defected lawmakers are loyal to Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Sources told SaharaReporters the lawmakers were at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday to secretly withdraw part of the affidavit, where Amaewhule swore on oath in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1681/2023, that he and 26 other lawmakers in Rivers State House of Assembly were constrained to defect and join the APC on December 5, 2023.

The defection was blamed on the state of “uncertainty and confusion” in their former party – PDP.

SaharaReporters gathered that they succeeded in withdrawing the affidavit, the basis upon which they got court orders that kept them in office.

Following their defection and swearing of oath at the high court, the lawmakers were also received by officials of their new party, APC.

“Today, pro-Wike lawmakers went to the Federal High Court to withdraw the affidavit they swore in court that that they have defected from PDP to APC.

“They quietly withdrew the affidavit. On the basis of this affidavit, they got court orders to keep their seats and were received by the APC,” a top judicial source told SaharaReporters.

In the suit, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State House of Assembly, Clerk of Rivers State House of Assembly, Inspector General of Police and Department of State Services (DSS) were listed as the 1st to 6th Defendants/Respondents respectively.

Amaewhule and others had sworn in Paragraph 14, forming part of affidavit secretly withdrawn that “faced with the state of uncertainty and confusion in the 2nd Defendant caused by the division in the political party, the Plaintiffs were constrained to defect and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on 5th December, 2023 as stated above”.

Similarly, in Paragragh 15, they had sworn that “angered by the action of the Plaintiffs, the 2nd Defendant has been threatening fire and brimstone against the Plaintiffs. The 2nd Defendant has followed this up by holding a press conference addressed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, where the 2nd Defendant prayed the 1st Defendant to withdraw the Certificates of Return issued to the Plaintiffs and organise and hold fresh elections to fill the seats of the Plaintiffs”.

In Paragraph 16, they swore “that apart from the 2nd Defendant, persons and political parties not concerned with the defection of the Plaintiffs to the APC have also been mounting pressure on the 1st Defendant (INEC) to declare the seats of the Plaintiffs vacant”.

Amaewhule further avowed in paragraph 17, that a similar situation arose in Edo State wherein the same “2nd Defendant asked the 1st Defendant to declare the seats of 14 Members of the Edo State House of Assembly vacant, and the court resolved the matter by maintaining the status quo.

He insisted in paragraph 18 of the affidavit that unless the court restrained, “the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC which is 1st Defendant and or the 3rd Defendant (Rivers State House of Assembly) will not only declare the seats of the Plaintiffs vacant, but the 1st Defendant will withdraw their Certificates of Return and prevent them from carrying out their constitutional duties and functions.”

SaharaReporters gathered that upon this affidavit in support of their motion for interlocutory injunction, which the lawmakers have just withdrawn, Hon. Justice Donatus U. Okorowo on December 15, 2023, granted an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Rivers State House of Assembly from declaring vacant the seats of the 27 members of the Assembly, led by Amaewhule.

Justice Donatus Okorowo, in an ex-parte ruling, also restrained INEC from conducting fresh elections to fill the seats of the 27 lawmakers, who had announced, in the legislative chamber, their defection from the PDP to the APC.

The judge gave an “order of interim injunction restraining the first and third defendants/respondents (INEC and Rivers Assembly), either by themselves, their officials, officers, servants, agents, servants, staff or privies (anyhow so-called), from declaring vacant or taking any steps whatsoever to declare vacant the seats of the plaintiffs/applicants at the Rivers State House of Assembly; from withdrawing the plaintiffs/applicants’ respective certificates of return and from conducting fresh elections to fill in the seats of the plaintiffs/applicants at the Rivers State House of Assembly, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Disabled Nigerians Angry With Tinubu Over Alleged Discrimination In Ministerial Appointments

A Coalition of Professional People Living with Disabilities, (PLWDs), has expressed displeasure with President Bola Tinubu over alleged discrimination in his recent appointments to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

They claimed that the appointments neglected the voices and needs of PLWDs, particularly in light of their previous call for the inclusion of a female candidate in the ministry.

The group’s representative and convener of the coalition, Ismaila Sani Dabai, in a statement issued on Wednesday, expressed deep disappointment over the selection of two male candidates from the same state for key leadership roles, stating that such a decision undermines the principles of inclusivity and equity essential for effective governance.

They emphasized that being disabled does not equate to being voiceless and demanded recognition and respect for their contributions to society.

“We are citizens of this country, created by God just like everyone else. Our disabilities do not diminish our worth or our ability to contribute meaningfully to discussions that affect our lives and communities.

“Our earlier request for the appointment of a qualified female leader in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs was not just a plea for gender representation; it was a call for someone who understands the unique challenges faced by PLWDs, particularly women with disabilities.

“As a community, we believe that the humanitarian sector requires diverse leadership to effectively address the complexities of social issues, especially those impacting vulnerable populations, including PLWDs.

“Female leaders often bring perspectives and experiences that can lead to more comprehensive and empathetic responses to humanitarian needs.

“We therefore urged President Tinubu to reconsider his appointments and to ensure that the appointment reflect the diversity of Nigeria’s population.

“It is crucial for leaders in the Humanitarian Ministry to understand the intricacies of our challenges, because women, especially those who are disabled, can offer invaluable insights into creating policies and programs that truly serve all Nigerians.

“We ask President Tinubu to listen to us, to include us, and to ensure that his appointments reflect the richness of our nation’s diversity.

“It is time for the government to stand by its commitment to inclusion and equality for all, including those of us with disabilities,” Ismaila stressed.

U-17 WWC: Sanusi Applauds Flamingos Despite Quarter-Final Exit

Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Mohammed Sanusi has lauded the Flamingos despite their quarter-final elimination at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos won all their three group stage matches.

The Bankole Olowookere side, however, fell 2-0 to USA in the quarter-final.

Sanusi said the girls need to be encouraged despite their failure to make it to the last four.

“The Nigeria Football Federation is proud of the Flamingos and the efforts they put into the competition. Two years ago, they defeated the USA on penalties at the same stage, on their way to collecting the bronze medals. That is football for you,” Sanusi told thenff.com.

“If you watched their games, you will agree that the girls put up a great fight in every match. They swept through their group phase, collecting the maximum nine points and scoring nine goals while conceding only one. They created several chances against the USA but were quite unlucky. This is a good team and the players must be encouraged going forward. I believe a good number of them have the skill, temperament and discipline to progress to the U20 squad.”

The Flamingos arrived the country from Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

Morocco will host the next edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
