APC Chieftain Lukman Criticizes Tinubu’s First Year, Doubts Ability to Replicate Lagos Success. 

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sahilu Mohammed Lukman, has expressed doubts about President Bola Tinubu’s ability to replicate his achievements as Lagos State governor on a national level.

Speaking on Tinubu’s one year in office, the former national vice chairman (North-West) of the APC remarked that Tinubu has failed to inspire confidence in his governance, highlighting policy missteps and reversals.

“Painfully, against every expectation that President Asiwaju Tinubu will reignite the Lagos success story at the national level, his government is more and more creating doubts in the minds of Nigerians about the prospect of resolving the country’s challenges with incidences of policy missteps and reversals,” Lukman said in a statement on Tuesday, May 21.

He cited ongoing issues such as insecurity, inflation, unemployment, and poverty as indicators of the administration’s shortcomings. Lukman also lamented the absence of leaders willing to prioritize the interests of the citizenry after 25 years of democratic rule in Nigeria.

In a statement titled “Illusive politics: What is to be done,” Lukman criticized the influence of “political mercenaries” who opposed Tinubu during the 2023 elections but now have significant access to him, while loyal party members are sidelined.

“Failure of APC and its leadership since the time of former President Muhammadu Buhari to meet the expectations of Nigerians by delivering on campaign promises has debased the country’s democracy and made a mockery of all the gains made as a nation,” he added.
