Massive Cocaine Seizure Linked to International Trafficking Network
Nigerian authorities have announced the seizure of approximately $27.7 million (₦39 billion) worth of cocaine destined for the United Kingdom. The substance, weighing 184.5 kilograms, was discovered concealed within brown boxes at a courier facility in Lagos on Monday, 3 August 2026.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has stated that the cocaine was part of an international trafficking network utilizing Nigeria as a transit hub. According to the agency, the network has been exporting drugs to the UK, other parts of Europe, and Asia.
As part of the ongoing investigation, two key Nigerian suspects have been arrested. Among them is a social media influencer with nearly 700,000 followers on Instagram.
Afolabi Kazeem Michael, aged 49, who operates under the alias “KC Luxury”, has been accused of serving as the “arrowhead” of the international cartel. The NDLEA alleges that while presenting himself online as a businessman and influencer dealing in gold and luxury goods, he was actually involved in moving cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia.

The agency reported that Michael was apprehended on Thursday, 13 August 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as he prepared to board a business-class flight to Paris. Upon his arrest, authorities found on him €7,750, £2,800, and ₦100,000 in cash.
The second suspect, a staff member of a logistics company allegedly used to transport the cocaine, has also been arrested. The NDLEA claims this individual was responsible for packaging the cocaine for export and receiving payments in cash.
Additionally, suspected members of the network in the UK have been arrested by counterpart law enforcement agencies overseas, according to the NDLEA.
General Buba Marwa (retired), the head of the NDLEA, emphasized the success of international collaboration in achieving these arrests. He vowed to pursue other members of the network, stating,
“We go track you to departure gates if we must.”
NDLEA Dismantles Methamphetamine Production Facility in Oyo State
The recent cocaine seizure follows another significant operation by the NDLEA, which uncovered a multi-billion naira methamphetamine production facility hidden deep within a forest in Oyo State, southwestern Nigeria. The agency described the facility as a “massive factory-level production line of poison.”
Methamphetamine, a highly addictive synthetic stimulant also known as “crystal meth,” “Tina,” or “ice,” was being produced on an industrial scale at the clandestine laboratory.
During a press conference at the NDLEA headquarters, Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, revealed that operatives raided a fortified, industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratory operating deep within the forest of Tapa Village, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The operation led to the arrest of a 56-year-old Mexican methamphetamine expert and four other Nigerians. Babafemi stated,
“On Wednesday, 17th June 2026, tactical operatives of the NDLEA stormed one highly fortified, industrial-scale clandestine methamphetamine laboratory wey dey operate deep within di forest of Tapa Village, Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Oyo State.”
The NDLEA’s ongoing efforts highlight the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and production facilities within Nigeria, as well as disrupting international drug supply chains.
