The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has named legal practitioner Godswill O. Umahi, Esq., as a panelist for its 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series, with Professor Kemi Anthony Emina, OdiEga, agreeing to moderate the panel session.

The panel discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Asaba, Delta State, according to an announcement by the Forum.

Held under the theme “Democracy Under Pressure: Electoral Integrity, Security Challenges, and Media Accountability,” the conference and lecture series will take place at David’s Event Centre, GRA, Asaba. It is expected to draw media practitioners, academics, policymakers, legal experts, and other stakeholders to consider pressing issues affecting Nigeria’s democracy and the media’s role in protecting democratic values.

Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, the Delta State Governor, is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour.

In a Sunday statement, the Chairman of the DOPF Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series Planning Committee, Deacon Chijioke Williams Ugbolue, and the Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, said Umahi’s legal expertise would enrich the panel, bringing perspectives on data privacy, regulatory compliance, artificial intelligence, technology law, and the rule of law.

The committee members said his contributions would be especially pertinent to exploring how these areas connect with electoral integrity, public accountability, digital communication, and the shifting responsibilities of online publishers.

Umahi, a legal practitioner with more than ten years of experience, has developed a litigation practice covering land, contract, criminal, and general civil matters.

His specialist knowledge extends to global data privacy and retention, backed by professional certifications in Artificial Intelligence, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Business Startup Management.

Outside the courtroom, Umahi takes part in public discourse, offering legal and policy perspectives on national issues with a focus on law, technology, and governance.

His efforts to make complex legal developments understandable to the public are expected to yield useful insights into the legal and ethical questions facing digital publishers in an information environment increasingly driven by technology.

Professor Emina’s decision to moderate the panel discussion brings substantial academic, journalistic, broadcasting, and public communication experience to the conference.

A philosopher, scholar, broadcaster, journalist, and community leader, Professor Emina has built a career marked by intellectual engagement, public service, and dedication to human development.

His main academic interests lie in Development Philosophy and African Metaphysics, fields through which he studies the philosophical and developmental challenges facing Africa and humanity.

He was among the pioneer staff of the Delta Printing and Publishing Company Ltd., publishers of The Pointer newspaper, before gaining wider professional experience with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Emina also served as Worldwide President of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association and was an active member of the university’s Governing Council. He presently chairs the Board of UI Ventures Ltd. His contributions to scholarship, leadership, and community development have brought him several honours, including the traditional title of OdiEga of Ebu.

His background in journalism, broadcasting, philosophy, and institutional leadership is expected to help deliver a balanced and intellectually engaging discussion on electoral credibility, security challenges, and the media’s accountability to the public in a democracy under pressure.

The DOPF 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series is expected to offer a platform for vigorous intellectual engagement with the challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy and media industry.

Through the event, the Forum seeks to encourage informed public discourse, strengthen professional standards among online publishers, and promote greater media accountability at a time when electoral integrity, national security, misinformation, and public trust remain critical to the country’s democratic development.
