Police Confirms Arrest Of House Of Reps Member
The Rivers State police command has confirmed the arrest of Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives.
Igwe was arrested for allegedly receiving $500,000 USD from Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesman for the state police command, stated that the lawmaker was arrested during a stop-and-frisk operation conducted along Aba Road in Port Harcourt by agents assigned to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Iringe-Koko also confirmed that a money distribution list was discovered on the lawmaker.
The statement released by the command reads, “Police Officers from Rivers State Command deployed to INEC Headquarters Aba Road today, February 24, 2023, at approximately 02:45 hours, while conducting a stop and search, arrested one Hon. Chinyere Igwe, member of the House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency with USD 498,100 in a bag in his car.
“A list detailing the distribution of the money was also recovered. AIG Abutu Yaro, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Election), has ordered prompt interrogation and court appearance.
“The Command urges all candidates and political parties to strictly comply with the Electoral Act and all other applicable laws.”
