  • Governor Seyi Makinde financed Atiku’s rally in Oyo state – PDP NEC Member

Governor Seyi Makinde financed Atiku’s rally in Oyo state – PDP NEC Member

Governor Seyi Makinde financed Atiku’s rally in Oyo, according to a member the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Diran Odeyemi.

READ ALSO: Seyi Makinde finally gives PDP Soft Landing, reveals ‘only way’ to resolve PDP crisis

A member of the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Diran Odeyemi, has said contrary to public perception that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was working against the interest of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; the governor was a party man committed to the success of the party at the polls.

Odeyemi said the governor, aware of his political future, was playing smart.

Recall that Makinde and Governors Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Rivers, Benue, Abia, and Enugu states, respectively, had resigned their membership of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in September 2022 in protest of Iyorchia Ayu’s continued stay as the national chairman of the party.

Led by Wike, the governors insisted that Ayu should leave office following Atiku’s victory at the presidential primary in May 2022 to make room for regional balance in the distribution of national and party offices in line with the PDP constitution.

READ ALSO: JUST IN: There are plans to assassinate Wike, G5 Governors– Atiku’s former aide opens up

The aggrieved governors, who formed the Integrity Group, were expected to name their preferred candidate this month but their inability to agree on a common choice has left them unable to declare their stand.

Speaking with our correspondent on the issue, Diran said, “Governor Makinde is playing smart and working for himself. He financed Atiku’s rally in Oyo state. All his men, apart from Taofeek Arapaja, the Deputy National Chairman (South), were at that rally and they all pledged their loyalty to the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.”

So far, only Ortom has dumped Atiku, having ordered his aides and associates to begin mobilisation for the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

Makinde’s commitment to the Integrity Group’s cause has come under the spotlight in recent times. Although he avoids pro-Atiku events, the same cannot be said of his loyalist and ally, the Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal, who has been present at many such events.

A former governor of one of the North-West states told our correspondent in confidence that Makinde’s moves were a reflection of “real politicking.”

“Politics is reality. You don’t burn the bridge when you have crossed to the other side because soon, you will need it to return. The message was clear when at the flag-off of the governor’s campaign rally, chants of Atiku filled the air. Governor Wike was there as well as the other members of their group.

“The governor knows the choice before his people. Being on the ballot, he knows he can’t dump Atiku just like that. I am aware that he had a secret meeting with Atiku recently where both men agreed to work together,” the northern governor added.

Also speaking, the Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, described Makinde as a smart young man who knew when to strike for his good.

While noting that the party never had any doubt about the governor’s commitment, Osadolor said Wike would soon realise that he is living in delusion with his plan of declaring support for a rival presidential candidate.

“Governor Makinde is a very smart young man. Give it to him, he knows when to say yes and when to say no. He knows when to talk and when to keep mum. He has since left Wike in his shenanigans.

Makinde is seeing the handwriting on the wall and he is making his moves. The only person who is still in doubt is Governor Wike and as an outgoing governor, we wish him the best,” he said.

Osadolor added, “Nigerians know for a fact that Atiku is the next President of this country. Seyi is close to his people in Oyo and the people know that their yearning for good governance will be realised with Atiku than with any other candidate. That was what the people demonstrated when the governor kicked off his re-election campaign.”

PDP Goes After Wike’s G5 Loyalists, Targets Governor Ikpeazu of Abia

PDP may have decided to begin a crackdown with one of the G5 governors, Ikpeazu of Abia State.

After months of uncertainty over what the Dr. Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee intends to do with recalcitrant party members aligned with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and four of his colleagues, the party may have decided to begin a crackdown.

Wike and his G5 colleagues-Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) – have had a running battle with the party leadership since the party’s presidential primary which saw Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defeating Wike, among others, to emerge as the standard bearer.

Ejesgist News reports that over the course of the last one week, the party leadership has dissolved the entire Ekiti State Chapter executive and suspended several party loyalists in Ekiti, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi who are known acolytes of the G5.

The leadership of the Ekiti Chapter of the party, which was hitherto populated by loyalists of former Governor Ayo Fayose (an associate of the G5 governors), was sent packing penultimate Friday.

Exactly seven days later, the PDP NWC suspended the Ebonyi State Chairman of the party, Okorie Tochukwu Okoroafor, for alleged anti-party activities.

Party insiders, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, revealed that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu could be on the “firing line” within the next two weeks.

One of the sources said, “It is unfortunate that we lost our candidate in Abia State, Prof. Uche Ikonne, who, until his death, was the handpicked successor of Ikpeazu.

“Now, Governor Ikpeazu invited Governor Wike to perform the function of handing over the party flag to Ikonne, a function which ordinarily was reserved for the National Chairman or a party official he assigns to perform such a function on his behalf.

“There will be a governorship primary and it is only the National Chairman and Secretary that can write INEC, it is the Ayu-led NWC that has the constitutional responsibility to conduct this primary.

    Iyorchia Ayu vs Governor Ikpeazu
    Iyorchia Ayu vs Governor Ikpeazu

“Ikpeazu will be fighting the political battle of his life to handpick another successor because there are many interests within and outside Abia now at play.

“The party leadership bent over backwards to accommodate his interests, and gave him all the support but what did we get in return?

“Like it or not, the party leadership and our presidential candidate and his team will be interested in who becomes the candidate because the party’s overall interest is at stake. The next couple of weeks will be interesting.”

“This was done to ensure the registration of DMLs whose registration was still pending and to prevent major market disruptions.

“Therefore, the Commission is extending the deadline for registration until Monday, March 27, 2023.”

What are the Facts Influencing Foreign Exchange Rate of dollars to Naira

Here are some of the reasons for the dollar-to-naira exchange rate’s decline.

Inflation Rates: It is common knowledge that inflation has a direct impact on black market exchange rates. The naira will benefit if the Nigerian economy can be stabilised and inflation is brought under control; however, if the naira continues to fall, it may indicate that food and other necessities are becoming more expensive on a daily basis.

Interest Rates: Interest rates are another tool to keep an eye on. If the interest rate at which banks lend money rises, the economy will contract, and the value of the naira will fall as a result.

Government debt has the potential to affect investor confidence and, as a result, the flow of funds into the economy. If inflows are high, the naira exchange rate will rise in its favour.

    Speculators:

Speculators have a significant impact on the naira-to-dollar exchange rate. They hoard money in anticipation of a profit, causing the naira to fall even further.

Trade Conditions: Although Nigeria is currently running a trade deficit, favourable trade terms will lead to an increase in the value of the Nigerian currency to the dollar. China, India, and the majority of Asian countries supply everything.

The year 2023 is viewed as crucial not only for Npower recipients but also for all Nigerians, as it will determine the future of the Npower programme and Nigeria’s future.

Some Npower recipients who expressed interest in serving as Adhoc staff for the 2023 and NPC 2023 censuses will be recruited to participate in these special events that will shape the face of Nigeria if selected.

As you are all aware, the Npower Programme is a youth empowerment initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with work experience and entrepreneurial skills. Participation in these additional responsibilities can therefore be advantageous for a beneficiary.

Since there will be elections in 2023 that will result in a leadership change, the new leadership will determine the future of the Npower programme. We believe that the approval of the NSIP bill offers hope for the continuation of the Npower Program.

In addition, as we enter the year 2023, the management of the Npower programme will address the program’s beneficiaries promptly regarding issues about the payment of stipends. Therefore, keep watch

You are encouraged to stay informed about the Npower Programme via the NASIMS self-service portal and the official Npower social media channels.

The Npower deployment for N-Power batch C2 is still ongoing. The deployment is still ongoing. If you are chosen as a beneficiary but have not yet been deployed, you will be sent to your primary assignment.

Npower News on Batch C Stream 1 August  Payment

Npower also stated that they are aware of batch C1 beneficiaries who have not received their August stipend payment. You can rest assured that all outstanding payments will be reinstated and you will receive your payment. According to N-Power.

As previously stated, there is no information on when payment for Npower batch C stream 2 stipends will begin. But for the time being, all we can tell you is to keep an eye on the payroll tab for changes; once the payroll payment update appears on the self-service dashboard, you will know it is time.

To answer the question that some batch C1 beneficiaries have about whether there will be Npower September stipend payments for batch C1 beneficiaries, all we can say for the time being is to stay updated with Npower officials’ news via their social communication platforms.

Christmas Celebration: Npower Batch C2 Beneficiaries Hopes For First Stipends Payment

As December draws to a close, N-Power batch C stream 2 volunteers are patiently awaiting their first stipend payment to help them celebrate the holidays and the new year.

With only a few days remaining before the new year, it remains unclear whether payment will be made before the 31st of December 2022, when Npower beneficiaries will celebrate the New year.

If the first stipend payment for Npower batch C stream 2 recipients is not made by the end of December 2022, it will be made after the holiday season, as the ministry of humanitarian affairs released a publication this week regarding their plans for the Npower Programme.

Will Npower recipients celebrate the Christmas and New year holidays differently this year compared to previous years when Npower payments were delayed? Regarding the payment of stipends, all eyes and ears are on the ground, awaiting positive news.

Know that you can call the Npower care line to discuss your concerns and that you can also continue the conversation on social media, as we hope that things will improve this year.

Therefore, let us wait and pray that the first payment for Npower batch C stream 2 will be made this December, based on logistical considerations so that recipients can celebrate Christmas in style.

However, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas in advance.

  • The Tinubu-Buhari Cold War Is Becoming A Hot War

The Tinubu-Buhari Cold War Is Becoming A Hot War

The Tinubu-Buhari cold war is becoming a hot war, But the fight is on, and it’s just getting started!

IT was always obvious to keen, disinterested observers that Bola Tinubu’s gamble in helping Buhari to ascend to power won’t pay off in the end; that his opportunistic political love affair with Buhari won’t be requited; and that the brittle, delicately thin thread that held their relational dynamic would snap sooner or later. I wrote countless columns on this.

Tinubu won the nomination of the APC not because of Buhari and the cabal of provincial power brokers that prop himbut in spite of them. Tinubu was compelled to ventilate his famously impassioned “emi lo kan” outburst in Abeokuta (in the Yoruba language, no less) when it became nakedly apparent that Buhari and his cabal had perfected plans to edge him out of the APC presidential primary contest.

People who know Tinubu from his inchoate age in Iragbiji tell me that he is a dogged, rugged, never-say-die fighter who would rather die fighting than give up a fight. His contemporaries dreaded fights with him not because he was strong but because his fights were often brutal and never-ending until he won. Even when he was bloodied and beaten to a pulp, he would get up and continue the fight if not immediately then later.

The story I heard of Tinubu’s childhood in Iragbiji reminded me of someone I grew up with in my hometown whom we nicknamed Mohammed Shaytan. Mohammed was his given name, but his bizarre emotional investment in endlessly ferocious fights with anyone until he won earned him the name Shaytan, the Arabic word for Satan. We used to allow him to “defeat” us so we would have peace. Perpetual personal strife, which he thrived in, wasn’t physically, mentally, and emotionally sustainable for a lot of us.

When the cabal was plotting to exclude Tinubu from the APC presidential contest, I had an informal chit-chat with a higher-up who had some associational affinities with the cabal. I told him that based on what I’d learned about Tinubu’s childhood and teenage years (some of which I can’t disclose publicly) and which seem to have endured into his adulthood, he would rather be dead than give up the APC nomination.

After the “emi lo kan” blow-up, which shook Buhari and his inner circle to their roots, my older acquaintance called to tell me I was right. The speech—and, of course, the support of APC’s northern governors, and his deep pockets— caused him to win the battle, but he is now in danger of losing the war, if he hasn’t already lost it. Here’s why.

Tinubu’s fervent, arrogant, and vaguely vituperative speech in Abeokuta at once unnerved, humiliated, and alienated Buhari and his inner circle in ways they had never been since 2015. Buhari never forgives, but he is also diffident, hates direct confrontation, and evades taking responsibility. That’s why he is such an ineffective but dangerous leader.

This signal first emerged in the open when Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, a former minister in Obasanjo’s administration who is very close to Buhari, Mamman Daura and members of the cabal, gave a sermon in his mosque in Kaduna where he importuned northerners to support their own. It’s entirely possible that this opinion is his alone.

Nonetheless, as many people have observed, Buhari has so far studiously refrained from asking voters to vote for Tinubu. He raises Tinubu’s hands on the campaign trail, but it’s as a mere ritual political gesture that he is required to perform. He also raises the hands of other APC candidates. But he has so far not directly solicited votes for Tinubu.

In a November 10, 2022, interview with Premium Times on the so-called currency redesign, which has gone viral in the last few days, Buhari justified the currency redesign by gratuitously invoking the specter of unscrupulous moneybags who use thugs to win elections, which many people, including Tinubu’s people, understood as an indirect attack on Tinubu.

“Nigerians should vote for whoever they like from whichever party. Nobody will be allowed to mobilize resources and thugs to intimidate people in any constituency,” Buhari said in what seems like a sneaky barb at Tinubu who infamously uses money and thugs to win elections, including elections that Buhari has benefited from. “This is what I want to go down into Nigerian history for.”

Of course, when Premium Times’ reporter pushed him to speak on his support for Tinubu, he uttered platitudinous, half-hearted, mealy-mouthed praises of Tinubu and Lagos and said, “the party was lucky to get [Tinubu to] accept to be its candidate.” We all know it wasn’t the party that got Tinubu to accept to be its candidate; it was Tinubu who fought tooth and nail against the machinations of Buhari and his cabal to become the party’s candidate.

In the aftermath of the renewed attention to and intra-party criticisms of Buhari’s failure to publicly urge his supporters to vote for Tinubu, Buhari’s associates organized a charade in Bauchi. During the APC presidential campaign in Bauchi, Buhari was asked to speak in support of Tinubu. Then, suddenly, the microphone mysteriously developed a malfunction—or there was a power cut—and Buhari left the venue of the campaign in a faux huff. It seemed all carefully choreographed.

Being the aggressively wily and perceptive political fox that Tinubu is, he has sensed all the Machiavellian political mischief that’s afoot. And he has had enough. So, he threw another pugilistic rhetorical blow at Buhari and his cabal in Abeokuta—and in the Yoruba language. When he is drowning and is fighting for his political life, Tinubu cries in Yoruba. English has no capacity to carry the full weight of his fury.

Unfortunately for Tinubu, his avoidably self-inflicted reputational injury in the Muslim North by his inability to recite the first chapter of the Qur’an is eroding his support. Salafi clerics in the Hausaphone Muslim North who used to preach that a vote for the Tinubu-Shettima Muslim-Muslim ticket was a jihad in the service of Islam have gone quiet. They can’t justify calling someone who can’t recite the fatiha a Muslim. In fact, the clerics have become objects of ridicule now.

This was completely preventable political self-harm. All he needed to do was continue being seen praying in mosques and going to Mecca for hajj. No one ever asks Muslims, not least wealthy ones like Tinubu, to justify their claims to their faith by reciting verses of the Qur’an. Most northern Muslim elites, including Buhari, know next to nothing about their religion. But it’s sufficient that they are seen in public performing the rituals of the religion.

Tinubu would have benefitted from having northern Muslims in his inner circle. They would have advised him against attempting to recite the fatiha that he has obviously lost because he doesn’t use.

The only silver lining in the cloud of political troubles for Tinubu in the Muslim North, which he needs to have a fighting chance, is that almost all APC governors in the region are solidly behind him for two reasons. The first is the embarrassment of betraying him after he stood with them in the 2015 and 2019 elections. Nasir El-Rufai is the arrowhead of this sentiment. He thinks it would be a treachery for the history books should the entire Muslim North forsake Tinubu.

The second reason is more selfish. Should Atiku Abubakar win the election, the dreams of another northern Muslim from the northern governors’ ranks becoming a president would be perpetually deferred. Even though Atiku has said he would do only one term, it would be almost impossible for another Muslim to succeed him after four years.

It remains to be seen if the support of the governors can reverse Tinubu’s lost ground in the Muslim North. But the fight is on, and it’s just getting started!

New Naira Notes: CBN Cash Swap Policy Suffers Major Setback

Due to the scarcity of new Naira notes, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cash swap programme with the Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) has suffered a setback.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had announced its intention to collaborate with commercial banks, Super Agents, Mobile Money Operators, and Point of Sale (PoS) merchants to increase the circulation of the new Naira notes.

The apex bank announced that point-of-sale (PoS) operators would receive the new banknotes from their designated commercial banks in exchange for the old naira notes from residents living outside of Lagos and Abuja.

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria, five of the eleven commercial banks operating in Nigeria were chosen to supply the redesigned naira notes to point-of-sale (POS) operators for the cash swap programme.

These include United Bank for Africa, Zenith Bank, First City Monument Bank, First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Holdings, and Access Bank Plc.

However, Ejes Gist News has learned that three of the selected banks in one of the approved states, Ogun, do not have new banknotes for PoS operators to collect, despite having been informed by the CBN that their banks were chosen for the cash swap programme.

When our correspondent visited three of the selected banks along the Ajuwon-Akute road in Ogun State on Friday, Zenith Bank and Access Bank employees informed him that they do not have any new currencies to participate in the CBN cash swap programme.

They requested that those desiring to withdraw the new banknotes utilise the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

However, after multiple attempts, the customers discovered that the ATMs were not stocked with cash.

Customers seeking new naira banknotes were denied entry to Zenith Bank, which stated that only those seeking to deposit old naira banknotes and other banking services are permitted inside.

UBA stated however that the new Naira notes were available.

However, the Point-of-Sale operators granted access are merchants whose names were provided by the CBN.

Additionally, the bank’s ATM was dispensing the new banknotes.

Additionally, the First Bank operating in the same axis informed several point-of-sale operators that there are no new naira notes on the ground.

One of the agents stated that she attempted to obtain new naira banknotes, but they only had older ones.

In an interview with Ejes Gist News , the CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, stated, “The banks work with a certain number of agents.”

“We received a letter acknowledgement copy. The governor said, referring to the controversy over the new naira note, “People are really suffering as a result of this policy.

They acknowledged that the decision was unanimous during the meeting with various State citizens.

He bemoaned that “most of our rural communities lack banks. It is extremely concerning how these people obtain fresh Naira bills. Just observe what is occurring in our cities, where people frequent the banks and spend hours upon hours there. And without any guarantees that you will receive the new notes.

The governor claimed that it was difficult to conduct business even at the point of sale (POS), suggesting that many businesses had shut down because of the ambiguity.

He insisted that, “This problem affects all of us,” pointing out that Kano is a major commercial center. Therefore, we need to make sure that everyone can hear us. We are a commercial hub. As a result, we need to be very clear about our position.

Governor Ganduje went on to say that under one platform, Nigerian governors sent delegates to President Buhari, complaining about the hardships brought on by the new development, regardless of their party affiliation.

All political party governors came together and sent delegates, but it was in vain. Traditional leaders took the same course of action. But as of right now, there is nothing in that regard,” said the speaker.
