Footballer, Segun Idowu Slumps, Dies In Kogi
Segun Idowu, a football player for Barnet FC, reportedly collapsed and passed away.
On January 20, 2023, at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, during one of the games in the ongoing Kogi FA Chairman’s Cup, the young, promising star collapsed on the field.

The death was confirmed to Newsmen on Friday night by a statement from Alhaji Suleiman Isah Umarr, the chairman of the Kogi State Football Association.
The Chairman expressed shock and pain over the young boy’s premature death, but added, “Who are we to question our maker who gives and takes when he so desires? ”
“We were shocked this morning when we received with heavy hearts the news that Segun, a football player with Barnet FC, Lokoja, who slumped and fell on the field after a collision with his teammate, has passed away,” the statement reads.
“When the collision occurred, we were on the field. He was brought back to life and quickly taken to the hospital.

He was reportedly doing well when we kept praying for God to step in, according to reports from the hospital, but we eventually learned that he had passed away.
“The loss of the talented young player has deeply saddened the entire football family in Lokoja. Even though it was just a straightforward field collision, Segun must travel through it in order to reach his creator again.
We pray that such a situation won’t occur again. “May God rest his soul and give comfort to his immediate and extended family during this trying time.”
