Former President Donald Trump was rushed off the stage at a Pennsylvania campaign rally following what sounded like shots Saturday. The incident called for promptness by Secret Service agents.

The incident unfolded when Trump stood to address supporters at a rally, his final campaign event before the Republican party convention.

Accounts from local authorities described loud noises—what sounded to many like gunfire—and there was a scramble as security personnel moved into action.

Descriptions by eyewitnesses say that Trump had blood on his right ear just before swift-moving security agents surrounded him, rushed him off the stage, and then whisked him away to an SUV, raising a fist to the crowd in appreciation.

Immediately after that chaotic moment, the Secret Service confirmed Trump to be safe following the evacuation and whisked him into an SUV in a bid to get him away from the scene.

John Yeykal from Franklin, Pennsylvania, explained what happened in his eyewitness account: “A lot of people went down, looking confused. I heard the shots; it sounded like between firecrackers and a small-caliber handgun.”

The White House said President Joe Biden has been apprised of the situation. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the situation; it is a matter of great concern.
