LASU Sacks Dean of Student Affairs for Selling Certificates (See Price)

Allegations of Certificate Racketeering Lead to Removal  of Dean of Student Affairs at Lagos State University.

The Lagos State University (LASU) has been embroiled in a scandal involving allegations of certificate racketeering, leading to the removal of the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko.

This revelation came to light following a shocking report on Monday, exposing a syndicate purportedly engaged in the illicit sale of genuine LASU certificates for exorbitant sums, ranging from N2 million to N3 million.

In response to these alarming allegations, LASU swiftly appointed Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, as the acting Dean of Student Affairs (DSA). This move was confirmed by a reliable source within the university, who stated, “Yes, it is true, Olumoko has been removed, and Abatan has taken over as DSA. This happened yesterday (Tuesday).”

However, the official stance of the university regarding the removal has been somewhat enigmatic. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the Coordinator for Information and Public Relations at LASU, expressed uncertainty, saying, “I can’t say if he has been removed or not. I am not yet in the office. So, I don’t know anything yet.”

This scandal has sent shockwaves through the Lagos State House of Assembly, prompting them to take action. On Tuesday, the legislative body announced its intention to invite key figures, including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Akibu, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Senate of the tertiary institution, and other high-ranking staff members, to address the allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering levelled against the university.

The implications of these allegations are far-reaching, potentially tarnishing the reputation of one of Nigeria’s prominent academic institutions. LASU’s response and the actions of the Lagos State House of Assembly will be closely monitored as the situation unfolds, and the truth behind the certificate racketeering scandal is brought to light.
