A school bus driver in Sapele, Delta State, has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female student before collecting N170,000 ransom from her father.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the alleged offences during police interrogation following his arrest over the incident, which occurred on October 20, 2026.

Ejes Gist News reports that Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed the incident in a statement accompanied by a viral video showing the arrested suspect during police interrogation.

In the video, the suspect was filmed from behind, with his face deliberately concealed to protect his identity from public exposure.

According to Edafe, the suspect worked as a school bus driver in Sapele and allegedly used his position to pick up the 14-year-old student on what was supposed to be an ordinary school day.

However, the journey allegedly turned into a kidnapping ordeal when the driver abducted the minor and subsequently sexually assaulted her.

The police spokesperson said the suspect went on to collect N170,000 from the girl’s father as ransom, despite having allegedly assaulted the student.

Edafe described the incident as a disturbing case involving the exploitation of a school transportation arrangement and the alleged abuse of a minor.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 20, 2026, when the suspect, who worked as a school bus driver in Sapele, picked up the 14-year-old student.

Rather than complete his normal transportation duties, he allegedly abducted the girl and sexually assaulted her.

He subsequently demanded and collected N170,000 from her father, according to Edafe’s account.

The suspect’s arrest and reported confession form part of the police investigation into the incident.

The case involves allegations of kidnapping, sexual violence against a minor and ransom collection. The suspect remains an accused person, and the allegations will be subject to judicial determination.
