The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has finally announced the venue for the official flag-off of its presidential campaign, with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar expected to lead party supporters and other dignitaries at the event in Sokoto State.

The party disclosed that the campaign kick-off would take place on Wednesday at its state secretariat, located at No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto.

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, the ADC Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Sokoto State, announced the venue, adding that party members and dignitaries were already making preparations for the event.

The announcement comes after the opposition party initially withheld information about the location of its inaugural presidential campaign, citing concerns over alleged intimidation and attempts to frustrate its political activities.

In a statement, Lamido disclosed that Atiku would arrive at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at about 9 am.

He called on ADC members, supporters and members of the public to turn out in large numbers to welcome the former Vice-President before proceeding to the campaign venue.

The statement also directed party executives across Sokoto State’s 23 local government areas and wards, mobilisation coordinators, support groups, women and youth organisations to activate their structures to ensure massive participation.

ADC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Intimidation

The unveiling of the campaign venue follows a series of allegations by the ADC over what it described as attempts to intimidate its members and disrupt its political activities in Sokoto State.

Rank News reports that the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, reportedly escaped unhurt after gunmen opened fire on his convoy near the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport on Friday night.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) denied allegations linking it to the incident.

However, tensions reportedly increased three days later when an ADC campaign office was sealed, raising further concerns among members of the opposition party.

The ADC also alleged that the Sokoto State Government denied it access to a suitable venue for its presidential campaign flag-off.

Atiku Accuses APC, DSS of Plotting to Disrupt Campaign

The controversy escalated on Tuesday night when Atiku Abubakar accused the APC and the Department of State Services (DSS) of allegedly plotting to frustrate the ADC’s inaugural presidential campaign.

The former Vice-President raised concerns over what he described as attempts to undermine the opposition party’s political activities ahead of the campaign.

However, the DSS denied the allegation.

With the venue now officially announced, the ADC is moving ahead with preparations for the campaign flag-off, which is expected to bring together party leaders, supporters and mobilisation groups from across the state.

The event will also serve as an early test of the party’s ability to mobilise supporters and sustain its political activities amid the growing tensions surrounding its campaign in Sokoto.
