Did Kano Governor Distribute Pants to Women as Empowerment Gifts? What We Know So Far

Kano Governor Distribute Pants to Women?

A viral claim on social media alleges that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf distributed underwear to women as empowerment or campaign gifts. The claim has sparked outrage and heated debate across Nigeria’s political space.

But what is the truth? Ejes Gist News has conducted a thorough investigation.

    The Claim

Multiple posts on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok have circulated images showing women holding red underwear. Captions accompanying the photos suggest the items were officially handed out by the Kano State Government as empowerment packages for women.

Some posts specifically linked the alleged distribution to Governor Yusuf, using the images to mock or condemn his administration.

    Our Findings

When Error Level Analysis (ELA) — a forensic technique used to detect image manipulation — was applied to the viral images, red flags emerged.

In the suspected doctored image, a noticeably brighter patch appears on the underwear. This inconsistency suggests that part of the image was edited or inserted separately before being recompressed.

In the original, unaltered version, brightness and noise levels are uniform across the same area, indicating no tampering.

Verdict on the images: The viral photo was altered to insert the image of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, creating the false impression that he personally distributed the underwear.

Further investigation by Ejes Gist News traced the original content to a video featuring supporters of Governor Yusuf, popularly known as Gida-Gida TikTokers.

The video was recorded during the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Kano on Thursday.

In the footage, the group is seen displaying red pants in front of the Kano Government House while chanting songs mocking Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. They repeatedly used the phrase “Dan kamfan tsula” — loosely translated as “Tsula’s pants.”

“Tsula” is a Hausa term for a small monkey and has become a derogatory label in local political rhetoric targeting Kwankwaso. The term gained popularity through songs by APC praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara.

The Ejes Gist News investigation established that:

    – Thursday: The original video of the political stunt was recorded during the First Lady’s visit.
    – Friday: The “pants empowerment” narrative began circulating online — a full day after the original event.

This timeline strongly indicates that the claim was a later distortion, not part of the actual event.

    Public Reactions

Wali Halliru Habib, a Facebook user, defended the act:

MWe will chant it again, Tsula’s pants… Just because we said Tsula’s pants and you are saying we are wrong? We will continue to say it.”

    But Sanusi Yahuza condemned it:

This is very wrong. Who is Tsula again? What kind of thinking is this?”

Sule Ya’u Tariwa, Special Reporter with the Kano State Government, criticised the act sharply:

I have never seen such foolishness done in the name of politics. This is madness in its rawest form.”

Reacting to the doctored “empowerment” images, he added:

“The damage has been done, and no amount of explanation can convince these people otherwise. God forbid.”

    Context Matters

Nigeria’s political space is often flooded with misinformation, especially during politically charged periods.

Satirical or provocative acts — like the underwear display by Gida-Gida TikTokers — are frequently taken out of context, edited, and recirculated as factual claims to mislead the public or discredit opponents.

In this case, a political stunt was repurposed into a false “government empowerment” narrative using doctored visuals and misleading captions.

    Our Verdict

    False.

The claim that the Kano State Government distributed pants to women as empowerment or campaign gifts is false.

The viral content originated from a political stunt by supporters, and the images were digitally altered to misrepresent the situation. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his administration were not involved in any underwear distribution.

    What You Should Do

Before sharing any viral claim, pause and verify.

    • Check the source of images using reverse image search
    • Look for the original video or context
    • Be wary of claims that appear designed to provoke outrage

You Sure You Can Win?’ — How Adelabu Resigned Against Tinubu’s Wish for Oyo Guber

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The political landscape is currently on fire following the dramatic resignation of the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet—a move that reportedly happened strictly against the President’s wish.

Ejes Gist News has gathered exclusive details of the closed-door drama that led to Adelabu stepping down to pursue his lifelong ambition of becoming the Governor of Oyo State.

THE RESIGNATION THAT SHOOK THE FEC

Adelabu officially threw in the towel via a letter dated April 22, 2026, transmitted to the President through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

But behind the formal letter lies a gripping tale of political maneuvering.

Sources within the Presidency revealed to Ejes Gist News that President Tinubu was visibly reluctant to let the Ibadan-born technocrat go. In fact, inside sources suggest that the President had bigger plans for Adelabu.

“The President actually intended to promote Adelabu to the Ministry of Finance to succeed Wale Edun,” a top source confided. “Tinubu saw him as a key player in his economic team.”

YOU SURE YOU CAN WIN?’ — WHAT TINUBU ASKED THAT BROKE THE INTERNET

To prevent the resignation, President Tinubu reportedly took an unusual step. According to Presidency insiders, the President avoided a private meeting with Adelabu for nearly two months, hoping the minister would change his mind.

When the two giants finally met at the Presidential Villa, the conversation was tense. President Tinubu, looking the former banker straight in the eye, asked a question that has since set social media ablaze:

    You sure you can win?”

Adelabu, displaying the confidence of a man who has tasted the corridors of power, reportedly responded with absolute certainty. He expressed full confidence in his ability to clinch the party ticket and win the gubernatorial election.

It was only then that the President offered his blessings and wished him success.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: THE MARCH 31 DEADLINE

Critics have been quick to point out that Adelabu’s resignation came 22 days after the March 31 deadline set by the Presidency for all appointees seeking elective offices.

However, Ejes Gist News can authoritatively report that legal experts and administration insiders have clarified that the March 31 deadline was merely administrative, not legal.

According to the Electoral Act 2026, aspirants are required to resign at least 30 days before party primaries. Adelabu is still well within this legal timeframe.

    WHAT NEXT?

Adelabu’s resignation will officially take effect on April 30, 2026, to ensure a seamless handover of duties within the power sector—a sector many believe he leaves with mixed results.

Now, all eyes are on Oyo State. Can Adelabu, a former CBN deputy governor, overcome the political structures in the Pacesetter State? Or has he just traded a ministerial seat for a political wild goose chase?

Social media is divided. Some hail his courage. Others call it political foolishness.

But one thing is clear: Adebayo Adelabu has just thrown the biggest dice of his political career.

Benue Monarch Butchered In His Palace As Killers Spend 20 Minutes Raining Bullets.

MAKURDI, NIGERIA – In what can only be described as a blood-curdling assault on traditional institution and humanity, gunmen have broken into the palace of a monarch in Benue State, brutally killing the traditional ruler, his wife, his son, and three other residents.

Ejes Gist News gathered that the deadly attack occurred on Thursday night in the Olegabulu community, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

HOW KILLERS STRUCK FEAR INTO THE COMMUNITY

According to a resident who pleaded anonymity, the armed men—numbered about four and arriving on two motorcycles—entered the community like ghosts in the night.

In a chilling twist, the killers reportedly exchanged pleasantries with locals in the native dialect, lowering everyone’s guard before heading straight to the royal residence.

“Once inside the palace, they opened fire without warning,” the source told Ejes Gist News. “They killed the traditional ruler, his wife, and his son right on the spot.”

THE HORROR DID NOT END THERE

The attackers, according to eyewitnesses, spent no fewer than 20 minutes in the community—an eternity of terror.

After the palace massacre, they reportedly moved to a nearby compound where they killed two additional residents and left another person battling for his life before speeding away on their motorcycles.

The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Melvin Ejeh, confirmed the grim incident.

“Five people were killed, and one person sustained injuries,” Ejeh told Ejes Gist News. He added that security operatives, including police personnel, have since visited the scene of the attack.

However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Benue State, DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to receive full details of the attack at the time of this report.

    Editorial Commentary: A NATIONAL DISGRACE

This is not just another attack. This is a direct assault on the soul of Benue State.

When gunmen can freely spend 20 minutes—time enough to drink a cup of tea—in a community, killing a first-class citizen and his bloodline, where is the security architecture? This coordinated and deceptive attack raises serious questions about intelligence gathering and community policing in Nigeria.

Ejes Gist News demands that the Benue State Government and the Inspector General of Police fish out these killers.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

Tragedy Hits Nigerian Football As Former Super Eagles Star Michael Eneramo Slumps, Dies During Friendly Match In Kaduna

KADUNA, NIGERIA – The Nigerian football community has been thrown into a deep state of mourning and utter shock following the sudden and tragic death of former Super Eagles striker, Michael Eneramo.

According to exclusive reports gathered by Ejes Gist News, the dreaded incident occurred on Friday, April 24, in the Ungwan Yelwa area of Kaduna State, turning what was meant to be a relaxing local friendly match into a national heartbreak.

    HOW THE TRAGEDY UNFOLDED

Eneramo, who was born in Kaduna on November 26, 1985, decided to grace a local pitch at Angwan Yelwa (Television area) with his presence. Sources close to the scene told our correspondent that the veteran striker looked fit and played through the entire first half of the game—much to the delight of fans who were thrilled to see a former international in their midst.

However, disaster struck roughly five minutes into the second half.

“He slumped and died right on the spot,” a primary source revealed to Ejes Gist News, describing the harrowing scene. “We thought he was just tired, but when he didn’t get up, we rushed. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.”

    Michael Eneramo
    Late Michael Eneramo

Medical sources speculate that the former frontman may have suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, a silent killer that has claimed the lives of several athletes globally.

A CAREER CUT SHORT IN DEATH, BUT A LEGACY REMAINS

Before this tragic passing, Michael Eneramo had already hung up his professional boots. He was a fearsome striker known for his physical presence and aerial ability.

Nigerian football fans will remember his glorious days at Besiktas of Turkey, where he was a fan favorite, as well as his stints with Tunisian giants Esperance and Nigerian club Lobi Stars.

Ejes Gist News understands that after his international sojourn, Eneramo did not abandon the beautiful game. He returned to his roots in Kaduna and reportedly established a football academy in a bid to groom the next generation of Nigerian talents.

It is a painful irony that a man who survived the fierce tackles of the Turkish Super Lig and the CAF Champions League lost his life on a local pitch in Kaduna.

This incident raises serious questions about the lack of emergency medical facilities at grassroots football events in Nigeria. How many more heroes must we lose on the field of play before the NFF and the sports ministry mandate the presence of defibrillators and ambulances?

As we publish this report, the Nigerian football fraternity is still reeling. The late Eneramo is survived by his family, his academy players, and a nation of fans who will never forget his dedication to the sport.

May his soul rest in peace.

Obi cannot rejoin, contest 2027 election on our platform – LP Opens up

The Labour Party (LP) has stated that its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would be unable to contest the 2027 general election under its platform due to statutory membership deadlines.

The party’s interim national chairman, Nenadi Usman, disclosed this during an interview on Arise TV, citing provisions of the Electoral Act that regulate party registers and candidate eligibility.

Ejes Gist News reports that the position hinges on the requirement that party membership lists be finalised and submitted ahead of primaries.

Also Read : BREAKING: Adebayo Adelabu Resigns as Power Minister, Declares Oyo Governorship Ambition

Usman said the LP would close its membership register 21 days before its primary elections and transmit the electronic register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after which no new entrant would be eligible to participate.

“Once we close the register 21 days before primaries and submit it to INEC, you cannot come from behind to register and contest. That would be legally impossible,” she said.

Obi, who drove the party’s electoral surge in 2023, has not formally rejoined the LP following internal disputes that fractured its leadership structure. Usman acknowledged his influence in building the party, noting that he persuaded several political actors, including herself, to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the last election cycle.

She linked her defection to disagreements over zoning arrangements within the PDP, arguing that the party failed to rotate its presidential ticket to the southern region, a decision she described as inequitable.

Prolonged Leadership Crisis and Court Rulings

The Labour Party has remained embroiled in a leadership crisis since the 2023 elections, with competing factions laying claim to the national chairmanship.

2027: “I Will Leave ADC If Primary Is Compromised” — Peter Obi Threatens to Dump Party Ahead of Presidential Race

The dispute initially involved Usman’s caretaker committee and the camp of former chairman Julius Abure. Judicial interventions have since reshaped the leadership structure:

    • The Supreme Court ruled in April 2025 that Abure’s tenure had expired.
    • A Federal High Court in Abuja subsequently removed him from office.
    • The Court of Appeal later affirmed Usman as interim chairman and directed INEC to recognise her leadership pending a national convention.

Despite these rulings, Abure has indicated plans to approach the Supreme Court, prolonging uncertainty within the party.

Political Consequences for the Labour Party

The internal conflict has had measurable political effects on the LP’s structure and electoral standing:

    • Defections of key members across several states
    • Reduced representation in the National Assembly
    • Weakening of grassroots mobilisation networks

Party officials have linked these developments to organisational instability and unresolved leadership disputes.

Usman confirmed that the Labour Party has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region and commenced a nationwide membership revalidation exercise. The process is expected to determine the party’s final register ahead of primaries and compliance with INEC regulations.

The clarification on eligibility timelines introduces a legal dimension to ongoing discussions about Obi’s political future and the configuration of opposition forces ahead of the next general election cycle.

BREAKING: Adebayo Adelabu Resigns as Power Minister, Declares Oyo Governorship Ambition

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from the Federal Executive Council to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State, signalling an early political realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.

His resignation was formally communicated in a letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ejes Gist News reports that the decision will take effect from April 30, 2026, allowing for what he described as a structured and orderly transition within the Ministry of Power.

    Resignation Letter and Transition Plan

In the correspondence routed through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Adelabu said he stepped down with “a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude” for the opportunity to serve.

He stated that the delayed effective date was designed to ensure continuity in policy execution and administrative handover within the power sector.

“I write with a deep sense of honour and profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Honourable Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This resignation is to take effect on 30th April 2026, in order to allow sufficient time for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities,” the letter read.

    Appreciation to Tinubu Administration

Adelabu acknowledged the confidence reposed in him by President Tinubu, describing his ministerial appointment as a privilege to contribute to national development.

BREAKING: Tinubu Sacks Wale Edun, Ahmed Dangiwa in Cabinet Reshuffle, Appoints Replacements

He linked his tenure to ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s electricity sector, which remains central to industrialisation and economic expansion.

“Your Excellency, I remain sincerely grateful for the privilege and confidence you reposed in me by appointing me to serve our great nation in this capacity,” he said.

“It has been a rare honour to contribute to national development under your leadership and to play a role in advancing reforms in the power sector—one of the most critical foundations of Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic transformation.”

    Governorship Ambition and Legal Compliance

The former minister confirmed that his resignation was primarily to enable him concentrate fully on his governorship bid in Oyo State.

He referenced provisions of the amended Electoral Act, which restrict serving political office holders from contesting elections while in office.

Adelabu noted that his governorship ambition dates back to 2016 during his tenure as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, a position he exited in 2018 to pursue the same objective.

“My decision to step down is informed by my intention to focus fully on my gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State,” he stated.

“In line with the provisions of the Amended Electoral Act 2026, which preclude political office holders from contesting elections, I consider it both appropriate and necessary to resign at this time.”

Adelabu’s exit from the cabinet introduces a significant variable in Oyo State’s political landscape, where early positioning by major contenders has intensified.

    Key implications include:

    • Early campaign mobilisation: His resignation provides latitude for statewide consultations and party engagement.
    • Intra-party dynamics: Potential reshaping of alignments within the ruling party ahead of primaries.
    • Policy continuity concerns: Leadership transition within the Ministry of Power during ongoing sector reforms.

The development also places renewed attention on federal cabinet stability, as political office holders with electoral ambitions weigh compliance with statutory requirements.

    Background Profile

Adebayo Adelabu previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria before transitioning into partisan politics. His trajectory has been closely tied to Oyo State politics, where he has remained an active contender in governorship races.

His tenure as Minister of Power was marked by policy efforts aimed at addressing generation, transmission, and distribution inefficiencies within Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Further official communication on succession within the Ministry of Power is expected from the Presidency in line with constitutional procedures governing ministerial appointments.

Court Remands Suspected Coup Plotters in DSS Custody

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of six defendants in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) following their arraignment on terrorism-related charges.

The defendants were brought before the court on a 13-count charge bordering on alleged acts of terrorism and conspiracy.

Ejes Gist News reports that proceedings commenced at approximately 1:46 p.m., with the prosecution led by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), confirming readiness to proceed and seeking permission for the charges to be read.

    Proceedings Temporarily Delayed

The arraignment experienced a brief delay after procedural concerns were raised by defence counsel.

    • The third defendant informed the court that his legal representative was unavailable due to ill health.
    • Counsel to the sixth defendant notified the court that his client understood only Arabic and Hausa, necessitating the provision of an interpreter.

The court subsequently stood down the matter to address these concerns and ensure fair hearing standards were maintained.

    Defendants Plead Not Guilty

When proceedings resumed at about 2:18 p.m., all six defendants entered their pleas. Each defendant denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution thereafter requested that the defendants be remanded in DSS custody pending trial and also urged the court to grant an accelerated hearing of the case.

While most defence counsel did not oppose the request for an expedited hearing, counsel to the first defendant indicated plans to file a formal bail application.

In his ruling, the trial judge:

    • Ordered that the matter be heard on an accelerated basis
    • Directed that the defendants remain in DSS custody
    • Granted the defendants access to their legal representatives

  • PDP Crisis Deepens: Abuja Court Threatens INEC Chair, Anyanwu with Prison Over Contempt

PDP Crisis Deepens: Abuja Court Threatens INEC Chair, Anyanwu with Prison Over Contempt

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has issued a notice of consequences of disobedience of court order against the national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Samuel Anyanwu and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Joash Amupitan.

The court, in Form 48 dated 20th April 2026, cited by our correspondent on Tuesday, warned that they risk imprisonment if they fail to comply with its January 12, 2026, judgment dismissing Anyanwu’s suit challenging his expulsion from the PDP.

The notice, seen by our correspondent on Tuesday, warns both men that they risk being committed to prison for contempt if they continue to disregard the judgment delivered on January 12, 2026.

The January judgment, delivered by Justice Yusuf Halilu in Suit No. CV/1050/2025, dismissed Senator Anyanwu’s legal challenge against his expulsion from the PDP.

The court effectively upheld the party’s decision to sack him over allegations of anti-party activities.

Despite this ruling, Anyanwu has continued to function as National Secretary and played a pivotal role in the controversial March 2026 National Convention in Abuja—a convention backed by the camp of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The political calculations are clear to Nigerian observers. Anyanwu is a known ally of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. His retention as National Secretary in the March convention ensures that the Wike-backed faction, led by National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, retains control over the party’s secretariat and, crucially, the issuance of nomination forms for the 2027 primaries.

Conversely, the faction led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and backed by Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi)—widely seen as loyal to the Atiku Abubakar camp—insists that Anyanwu is legally a stranger to the party.

The Form 48 notice, directed specifically at Senator Anyanwu and INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu (correctly identified as the current INEC boss, not Amupitan), states:

“Take notice that unless you stop further disobedience and comply forthwith/obey the judgment/order of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, made on the 12th of January 2026… you will be guilty of contempt and you will be liable to be committed to prison.”

This is a significant escalation. By copying Prof. Yakubu, the court is warning the electoral umpire that recognising the Anyanwu-led secretariat could land the INEC Chairman in legal hot water.

In a strongly worded letter dated April 16, 2026, addressed to Prof. Yakubu through their counsel, Abdullahi Ibrahim (SAN), the Turaki-led faction has demanded the immediate withdrawal of INEC’s recognition of Anyanwu. The letter cites Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates all authorities and persons to enforce court judgments.

The letter further warned that a mere Notice of Appeal filed by Anyanwu on April 10 does not equate to a Stay of Execution. “Senator Samuel Anyanwu has ceased to be a member and officer of the PDP… The judgment dismissing his case remains subsisting and in force,” the letter read.

The faction threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against Prof. Yakubu personally and challenge INEC’s decisions in court if the commission continues to deal with Anyanwu.

    What Next for the PDP?

With multiple suits pending across various courts—including the fallout from the nullified Ibadan convention and the recognition of the Abuja convention—the PDP remains a house divided against itself.

The threat of jail time for the INEC Chairman over a party dispute raises the stakes significantly, potentially forcing the commission to either derecognise the Wike-backed exco or face a constitutional crisis.

For the average Nigerian voter, this legal ping-pong signals that the main opposition party is still focused on internal squabbles rather than presenting a united front to tackle the country’s economic and security challenges.

In the parallel market, also known as the black market, rates remain higher due to persistent demand outside official channels:

    • Buying rate: approximately ₦1,400 per $1
    • Selling rate: between ₦1,410 and ₦1,420 per $1

The spread between the official and parallel market rates highlights ongoing structural challenges in foreign exchange accessibility.

Dollar to Naira Rate Trend Analysis

A comparison with the previous trading session shows minimal variation:

    • April 21, 2026: around ₦1,345 per dollar (official market)
    • April 22, 2026: ₦1,346 – ₦1,350 per dollar (official market)

This indicates a largely flat trend, with the naira maintaining stability against the US dollar in the short term.

Key Factors Driving the Exchange Rate

Several macroeconomic and policy-driven factors continue to influence the dollar to naira exchange rate:

    1. Central Bank Interventions

The Central Bank of Nigeria plays a critical role in stabilising the naira through liquidity management and foreign exchange interventions.

    2. Foreign Exchange Supply

Inflows from oil exports, non-oil exports, and diaspora remittances contribute to FX availability in the official market.

    3. Demand Pressure

Importers, businesses, and individuals seeking foreign currency continue to drive demand, particularly in the parallel market.

    4. Global Economic Conditions

Movements in global markets, including US monetary policy and geopolitical developments, affect the strength of the dollar and emerging market currencies.

    Implications for Nigeria’s Economy

The current exchange rate stability has several implications:

    • Inflation Control: Stable exchange rates can moderate imported inflation
    • Business Planning: Predictable rates support pricing and investment decisions
    • Investor Confidence: Reduced volatility improves market sentiment

However, the persistent gap between official and parallel market rates underscores the need for continued reforms in the foreign exchange market.

    Outlook for the Naira

Market observers expect the naira to remain within a controlled range in the near term, provided current liquidity levels are sustained and demand pressures do not intensify significantly.

Attention remains on policy direction from the Central Bank of Nigeria, fiscal authorities, and broader economic reforms aimed at strengthening the currency and improving foreign exchange supply dynamics.

Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa have been Sacked

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing Olawale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The decision introduces new leadership in two critical ministries central to Nigeria’s economic management and housing development strategy.

Ejes Gist News reports that the changes were communicated through an official memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

    Official Confirmation of the Reshuffle

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by George Akume and conveyed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga.

According to the information, the President approved the immediate removal of the two ministers and the appointment of their successors as part of efforts to strengthen governance and policy coordination.

Following the reshuffle, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Also, Muttaqha Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The appointments are expected to inject new policy direction into both ministries, particularly in areas of fiscal reform, revenue generation, and housing delivery.

The Federal Government has directed the outgoing ministers to begin immediate handover procedures.

    Key directives include:

    • Completion of all documentation and administrative handover

All handover and takeover activities are to be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026, in line with the directive issued in the memo.

    Rationale Behind the Cabinet Changes

Explaining the rationale for the reshuffle, George Akume stated that the decision is part of a broader effort to improve efficiency in governance and accelerate delivery of key government programmes.

He noted that the move aligns with the administration’s policy framework aimed at strengthening coordination across ministries.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.

    Constitutional Basis for the Decision

The Presidency stated that the action was taken in accordance with constitutional provisions governing executive powers.

Retired General, Police Inspector, Ex-Minister at Large: FG Names Alleged Coup Plotters in 13-Count Charge

The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against six individuals accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The defendants include a retired major general, a retired naval captain, a serving police inspector, and a former minister currently at large.

Among those named in the charge sheet is Timipre Sylva, who authorities say is on the run.

Ejes Gist News reports that the case represents one of the most significant coup-related prosecutions in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, with allegations spanning treason, terrorism, and financial crimes linked to terrorism financing.

List of Suspects and Their Status

The defendants named in the charge include:

    Name Status Background
Major General Mohammed Gana (retd.) In custody Former military officer
Captain Erasmus Victor (retd.) In custody Former naval officer
Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim In custody Serving police officer
    Zekeri Umoru In custody Civilian
Bukar Kashim Goni In custody Civilian
    Abdulkadir Sani In custody Civilian
Timipre Sylva At large Former minister

The charge, filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, alleges that the defendants conspired in 2025 to “levy war against the state to overpower the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

    Details of the Charges

    Treason and Conspiracy

Prosecutors allege that the defendants conspired with others, including one Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji, who remains at large, to overthrow the government.

    Failure to Report Treasonable Acts

The charge states that the accused had prior knowledge of the alleged plot but failed to inform authorities or take steps to prevent it.

    Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering

Financial allegations outlined in the charge include:

    • Bukar Kashim Goni allegedly retained ₦50 million linked to terrorism financing.
    • Abdulkadir Sani allegedly retained ₦2 million from a similar source.
    • Zekeri Umoru allegedly received ₦10 million in cash outside a financial institution and held an additional ₦8.8 million tied to terrorism.
    • Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim allegedly possessed ₦1 million connected to the same activities.

    Meetings Linked to Political Destabilisation

Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and Zekeri Umoru are accused of attending meetings aimed at advancing a political agenda capable of destabilising Nigeria’s constitutional order.

The prosecution alleges that the defendants knowingly provided direct or indirect support to facilitate acts of terrorism.

Authorities further claim that the accused withheld critical information that could have prevented the alleged acts.

    Focus on Timipre Sylva

The inclusion of Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State and ex-minister, adds a political dimension to the case. He is currently listed as “at large,” with no official confirmation of his location or whether contact has been established by security agencies.

No public statement has been issued by Sylva or his representatives.

    Next Steps in Court

The Federal High Court in Abuja is expected to fix a date for arraignment. Proceedings will likely include:

    1. Reading of charges to the defendants
    2. Entry of pleas
    3. Consideration of bail applications

Authorities may seek a warrant of arrest or initiate extradition proceedings if Sylva is confirmed to be outside Nigeria.

    Context Within Nigeria’s Democratic Era

Coup attempts were frequent in Nigeria between 1966 and 1999. However, since the start of the Fourth Republic, such allegations have been rare and largely unproven in court.

This case stands out due to the formal filing of multiple charges, identification of suspects, and inclusion of financial evidence tied to terrorism-related offences.

    Official Position

The Office of the Attorney-General has not released a detailed public statement beyond filing the charges. However, the direct involvement of the Director of Public Prosecutions indicates the seriousness attached to the case.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have not issued separate statements regarding the arrest of the serving police officer named in the charge.

    Developments to Monitor

    • Bail applications by the defendants
    • Confirmation of Timipre Sylva’s whereabouts
    • Political and institutional reactions
    • Release of the full charge sheet

The case is expected to proceed through the judicial process as one of the most closely watched security-related prosecutions in recent years.

BREAKING: Suspected Ansaru Fighters Attack Kwara Military Base, Kill Soldiers, Injure Others

Suspected fighters linked to Ansaru have attacked a military base in Kwara State, killing at least three soldiers and injuring several others in a pre-dawn assault.

The incident occurred in Kemanji, a community in Kaiama Local Government Area, near the fringes of Kainji National Park, an area security sources have repeatedly identified as a suspected hideout for armed groups.

Ejes Gist News reports that the attackers struck at about 3 a.m., targeting a military formation in the area.

    Casualties and Injuries Confirmed

Local sources and intelligence reports indicate that at least three soldiers were killed during the attack, while four others sustained injuries. The injured include three soldiers and a member of a local vigilante group supporting security operations.

A forest guard, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, said the assailants launched a direct assault on the military facility.

“The attackers came straight to the camp and opened fire on the soldiers,” the source said.

    Military Assets Seized

During the operation, the attackers reportedly seized military equipment, including:

    • Eight operational motorcycles
    • One gun truck

The loss of these assets is expected to raise concerns about the operational capabilities of armed groups in the region.

A local vigilante involved in the response stated that security forces returned fire during the incident, resulting in casualties among the attackers. However, the exact number of casualties on the side of the assailants could not be independently verified.

The Kaiama axis and surrounding forest regions have witnessed increasing security pressure in recent years, with multiple armed groups exploiting difficult terrain around Kainji National Park.

Security analysts have previously linked the area to activities of Ansaru, a faction associated with Boko Haram, known for targeted attacks on security formations.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian military nor the Kwara State Police Command has issued an official statement confirming the attack or providing further operational details.

Residents in nearby communities remain on alert as security agencies intensify surveillance and response efforts in the area.

Bishop Oyedepo Drops 7-Day Ultimatum: ‘Divine Judgment’ Will Strike Bandits, Their Sponsors

The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, has declared what he described as divine judgment against bandits and their alleged sponsors.

The cleric made the declaration during a sermon themed “Covenant Day of Vengeance” at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.

Ejes Gist News reports that the remarks were delivered amid ongoing security concerns in parts of Nigeria affected by kidnapping and banditry.

    Seven-Day Warning Issued

Speaking to congregants, Oyedepo stated that those responsible for killings and abductions would face divine consequences within seven days.

“I declare judgment on those behind these tragedies and their sponsors in the name of Jesus,” he said.

“Unless I am not sent, this will come to pass within the next seven days.”

The statement forms part of the church’s broader emphasis on spiritual intervention in addressing national challenges.

Nigeria has faced persistent security threats in recent years, particularly in regions affected by banditry and kidnapping. Religious leaders have increasingly spoken on the situation, often calling for both spiritual and governmental responses.

Oyedepo’s remarks reflect a growing trend among faith leaders addressing national insecurity through sermons and public declarations.

The Assembly argued that the North previously benefited from a similar political arrangement during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that his two-term tenure was not significantly challenged by Southern contenders.

“This is not a matter for debate. In the supreme interest of national cohesion and continuity of governance, Northern political actors must refrain from contesting the presidency in 2027,” the statement read.

Arewa Youths  Issued Warning to Northern Political Actors

The group cautioned that it would resist any move perceived as a breach of the rotational presidency principle, describing such actions as detrimental to national cohesion.

It added that youths across the region are aligned on the need to sustain the current power-sharing balance between the North and South.

    Support for Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

AYA expressed support for the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, citing early indicators of recovery.

    Key measures highlighted include:

    • Removal of fuel subsidy
    • Exchange rate unification
    • Improvements in external reserves
    • Reduction in debt service-to-revenue ratio

The group stated that these reforms are beginning to stabilise Nigeria’s fiscal outlook, although challenges remain.

Security Gains and Commendation of NSA

On security, the Assembly commended ongoing military operations and intelligence coordination efforts, particularly in addressing banditry and kidnapping in Northern Nigeria.

The group specifically praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for his role in coordinating security strategies and reforms.

AYA noted reported successes in securing the release of abducted victims and improving security response mechanisms.

    Call for Improved Government Communication

Despite acknowledging progress, the Assembly urged government officials to strengthen communication with citizens, especially at the grassroots level.

“It is not enough to work in silence. Government officials must engage the people and highlight the gains being recorded to strengthen public confidence,” the statement added.

The group described the 2027 general election as a referendum on continuity, reiterating its support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

AYA pledged what it described as “unshakeable support” from Northern youths, emphasising that national unity should take precedence over individual or regional political ambitions.
