The swift response of the IGP-Special Intervention Squad and the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, along with other tactical sections, led to the rescue of Joshua Eze at Kuje Forest on January 28, around 06:20 pm.

In a parallel incident on January 28, at approximately 05:30 am, Peter Ede and ThankGod Ogunyi reported at Karmo Division that, while praying at Idu Gbagyi mountain Karmo, they were attacked by seven armed criminals at 01:50 am. The criminals abducted three of their group.

FRSC Vows Strict Enforcement Against Overloading After Fatal Accident in Ondo State.

In the wake of a tragic lone accident that claimed one life and left eight individuals injured, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to cracking down on motorists involved in overloading across the state.

The State Sector Commander, Mr Ezekiel SonAllah, issued a stern warning during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) following the incident that occurred on Saturday. The fatal accident, caused by a burst tire on an overloaded Toyota Hiace marked LD-27-KPA, took place around 4:12 p.m. at Amurin Junction along the Owo/Akure Expressway in Owo Local Government Area.

SonAllah emphasized that any driver found with an overloaded vehicle would face severe consequences for their actions. He disclosed that the victims of the accident, which claimed the life of one person on the spot, were promptly taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for treatment.

Furthermore, the FRSC boss highlighted that the ill-fated vehicle, carrying nine passengers at the time of the accident, had its goods and the vehicle itself handed over to the Uso Police Station for further investigation.

“As a passenger, if you know that the vehicle is overloaded and you value your life, you don’t need to enter such a vehicle,” SonAllah warned, underscoring the importance of individual responsibility in preventing such tragic incidents.

Lagos State PDP Chairman Released After Four Days in Kidnappers’ Custody

In a positive turn of events, Mr. Philip Aivoji, the kidnapped chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has been confirmed released after spending four harrowing days in the custody of his abductors.

Alhaji Hakeem Amode, the spokesman of the Lagos State PDP, announced on Monday, expressing gratitude for the collective support received during the challenging time.
The abduction occurred last Thursday in the Ogere area of Ogun along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, as Aivoji was returning from a PDP South-West zonal meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The news had sent shockwaves through the political landscape, prompting concerns from the public.
Amode, who also serves as the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, conveyed the party’s appreciation for the outpouring of prayers and support. He stated, “We use this opportunity to appreciate your prayers and to thank you all for your concerns and prayers.”

The kidnappers had previously contacted Aivoji’s family, demanding a hefty N200 million ransom. However, Amode did not confirm whether any payment was made to secure his release. The circumstances surrounding the release remain undisclosed at this time.

The PDP extended gratitude to the security agencies and government authorities involved in facilitating Aivoji’s freedom. The collaborative efforts underscore the importance of unity in addressing security challenges and ensuring the safety of individuals, especially those in prominent positions.

As the community breathes a collectMr sigh of relief over Aivoji’s safe return, questions about the broader issue of security and kidnappings along major expressways continue to loom. • NSCDC Arrests Three Suspects Over Alleged LPG Theft

NSCDC Arrests Three Suspects Over Alleged LPG Theft

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have apprehended three suspects engaged in the diversion and siphoning of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, in Akwa Ibom State.

Mr Eluyemi Eluwade, the State Commandant of NSCDC, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Uyo over the weekend.

He revealed that the arrests were made in response to complaints from product owners regarding theft and diversion of LPG.

The command deployed officers and mounted surveillance, apprehending the suspects in the act on January 24.

The suspects were caught circumventing the proper outlet process for discharging LPG, instead discharging the product into 25kg and 50kg cylinders without considering the potential dangers involved.

He said, “Following complaints and intelligence from product owners of theft and diversion of LPG and the inherent danger in the siphoning process, officers of the Corps were deployed and eventually caught the suspects right in the act along Port Harcourt expressway.”

Eluwade stated that the suspects have confessed to their actions, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against them. Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend those who patronise such illegal activities.

“The scar on the environment as a result of mining is scary. It will be worse if we do nothing about it, hence, the reason we are here is to sensitise and talk to ourselves,”
    Eluwade said.

He added that anyone caught engaging in illegal mining will face the full force of the law.

Eluwade reminded miners that mineral resources are under the Exclusive Legislative List, belonging to the Federal Government, and obtaining a license is required for any mining activity.

The NSCDC Akwa Ibom command, according to Eluwade, is intensifying efforts to bring order to mining activities in the state to ensure environmental safety.

“Mineral resources are under the Exclusive legislative list, as such, they belong to the Federal Government; so also is the license to mine any minerals,” he added.

  • After 10 Years Of Barrenness, Bandits Kill Nursing Mother And Her Mum In FCT

After 10 Years Of Barrenness, Bandits Kill Nursing Mother And Her Mum In FCT

In spite of the efforts of security operatives to address the worsening security crisis in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, incidents of killings and abductions of residents persist.

The blood-thirsty assailants, who have been causing mayhem in the nation’s capital city, recently intensified their unprovoked attacks on residents.

Although the security operatives recently recorded successes in the battle against terrorism in the city by rescuing kidnap victims and arresting suspects, our correspondent gathered that some of the unfortunate attacks are underreported.

On Thursday, the family members of Simon Igba, an officer of the Nigeria Police Force, were thrown into agony following the killing of his wife, Christiana Igba and his mother-in-law, Maria Agbo.

According to Daily Post, it was gathered on Saturday that the dreaded gunmen kidnapped Christiana and her mother in the Dei-Dei area of the capital city about two weeks ago.

Mrs Maria was on a postnatal visit to her daughter, Christiana, who recently gave birth after being childless since she tied the knot with her husband, Igba, about ten years ago.

The bandits had invaded their residence near the Mopol Barracks, Dei-Dei, hacked the husband to coma and whisked away Christiana, her mother and the one-month-old baby to an unknown destination.

One of the neighbours, Adejor Jacob, who narrated the incident to Ejes Gist News on Saturday, said the abductors had demanded N90 million ransom prior to the murder of the victims.

According to him, “The late Christiana gave birth recently after being barren for more than ten years. Her mother came to Abuja from Benue State for the postnatal and to celebrate with the family over the newborn.

“The kidnappers earlier asked the husband to pay N90 million ransom as the only condition to release his wife and his mother-in-law.

“A day before they were killed, the kidnappers contacted the husband and they both negotiated and settled for N10 million.

“The kidnappers asked him to make the money available before 10 am the following day, which was last Thursday.

“Before the agreed time, the kidnappers called the husband to inform him that the one month old-baby was ill.

“There was another victim that the kidnappers released that day so they gave her the little baby and asked her to take the newborn to a hospital.

“The kidnappers gave her the phone number of the baby’s father and asked her to call when she got to the hospital.

“The woman did as she was instructed. The hospital called Igba and he went there and recovered his baby. After a few hours, we received a report that Christiana and her mother had been killed.

“Their lifeless bodies were dumped and some police officers went there to recover them. They have been deposited at the Kubwa General Hospital.”

When our correspondent visited the area on Saturday, it was gathered that the residents who are still in shock over the unprecedented murder, are living in fear.

According to a resident who does not want to be mentioned, “many people are relocating from Dei-Dei due to security issues in the area.

“There has been a series of kidnappings and killings in this place since January but most of the incidents are not captured by the media.”

When contacted by Ejes Gist News, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh declined speaking on the matter.

Meanwhile, Ejes Gist News reports that the daredevil terrorists have been on rampage, terrorizing some areas in the territory, including Kawu, Gaba, Dei-dei, Kubwa Hills, Ushafa, Bwari, Mpape, Kubwa, Lugbe, Pyakasa, Keti, Gbaupe, Gbaukuchi, Airport Road, among others.

Earlier last week, reports emerged that over 200 violent attacks have been recorded across all the six area councils of the FCT since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

It was gathered that at least 89 residents of the nation’s capital have been killed by the terrorists, while 176 were kidnapped within the period.

This has instilled palpable fear and anxiety on residents, particularly those residing in the satellite areas.

Ejes Gist News reports that nightlife, especially in the Bwari Area Council, has drastically diminished as most residents desert the streets before nightfall.

Some schools and businesses were recently shut down over fear of attacks by the pitiless kidnappers.

Elder Ben Ijeoche, a security expert, told Ejes Gist News on Saturday that until the Federal Government and the National Assembly agreed to establish state police, the security crisis may continue.

He said, “We have been saying this but it looks like there is nobody to listen. The National Assembly should amend the 1999 Constitution accordingly to enable each of the 36 states and the FCT to establish their own police force.

“This will help reduce the issue we are facing right now. When you mobilize an officer from Abuja to Plateau, the officer will be limited in discharging their duties because they don’t know the place very well.

“Someone who has lived in the crisis area for a long time should be able to know how to tackle the challenges better. The person wearing the shoes knows where it pinches.

“State police will also create jobs for the youths and take some of our youths away from the bush.”

However, the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, has assured that residents of the territory will get positive news within days.

“I can assure you that in a matter of days, you will be hearing positive stories.

“We are ready to support our security agencies with whatever they need to ensure that our people can sleep with their two eyes closed.

“We are going to provide the councils with motorcycles to support the vigilante groups so that they can get information and assist our security agencies,”

    he added.
