Breaking: NCAA suspends all foreign lease aircraft of United Nigeria Airlines after pilot missed route

NCAA Suspends Foreign Lease Aircrafts of United Nigeria Airlines Following Plane Diversion Incident.

In a breaking development, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken swift action by suspending all foreign lease aircraft under United Nigeria Airlines. This decision comes in the wake of an incident where the airline diverted its Lagos-Abuja en route flight to Asaba on Sunday.

Passengers were left in dismay when a United Airlines aircraft touched down at Asaba International Airport instead of the scheduled Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA). The unexpected diversion prompted concerns among travellers.

Following the incident, reports surfaced that all wet lease aircraft under United Nigeria Airlines have been suspended. Benedict Adeyileka, a former Director General of the Agency, confirmed this development in an exclusive conversation with Ejes Gist News on Monday.

Adeyileka expressed his condemnation of United Airlines’ actions, deeming them unprofessional and warranting a thorough investigation. He highlighted the significance of adherence to aviation protocols, particularly the communication of flight changes to passengers.

“Just confirmed that their sub-Part G of their AOC is suspended. This means all their foreign registered aircraft are on subpart G. If you take the flight from Lagos to Abuja, the Captain is supposed to announce that it is landing in Asaba for whatever reason, but that was not the case,” Adeyileka stated.

He further noted that the current Director General of NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, possesses the authority to suspend United Airlines pending a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The suspension of foreign lease aircraft reflects the seriousness with which aviation authorities are treating deviations from standard procedures. Passengers and industry experts are keenly awaiting the outcome of the investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the unexpected diversion.

Audit Reveals Extravagant Expenditure by Nigerian States, Raises Concerns.

Audit report, has disclosed that several Nigerian states, including Benue, Borno, Cross Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, and Kogi, have spent exorbitant amounts on what seems to be frivolous items, sparking concerns about the potential mismanagement or diversion of public funds.

The Benue State government reportedly allocated a staggering N34.44 billion for various expenditures categorized as ‘special day celebrations,’ ‘welfare packages,’ ‘security votes,’ and materials and supplies, including office stationery and books.

Similarly, other states were not immune to extravagant spending. Borno, Cross Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, and Ekiti were reported to have spent N32.63 billion, N43.71 billion, N152.15 billion, N30.91 billion, and N31.33 billion, respectively, on items such as local and international travel, transportation, miscellaneous expenses, welfare packages, refreshments, honorarium, and sitting allowances.

The audit findings also revealed that both Enugu and Gombe states spent N33.36 billion and N24.73 billion on what is deemed frivolous items, raising concerns about potential mismanagement or diversion of public funds.

Imo State, according to the report, utilized N58.21 billion on refreshments and meals, welfare packages, and other allowances. Jigawa State reportedly spent N49.64 billion on transport and traveling, as well as materials and supplies, including drugs, vaccines, medical supplies, and stationery.

Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, and Kogi states were also implicated in the report, with expenditures of N27.87 billion, N17.79 billion, N40.49 billion, N24.51 billion, N41.19 billion, and N58.02 billion, respectively, on what appears to be extravagant items. Concerns have been raised regarding the potential mismanagement of public funds in these states.

As citizens express dismay over these revelations, calls for increased transparency and accountability in the handling of public funds are gaining momentum. The audit report raises questions about the priorities of these states and underscores the need for thorough scrutiny and oversight to ensure responsible financial management.

Tinubu inherited the worst economy so far, says Ogun State Governor

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics commended the bold and audacious steps taken by President Bola Tinubu since assuming office, stating that the country was on the brink when the administration commenced.

Governor Abiodun praised the administration for its decisive actions, noting, “They’ve taken the bull by the horns. They’ve done what no government has done in the history of Nigeria.”

He emphasized that President Tinubu inherited an administration that was on the verge of collapse, describing the challenges as almost pushing the nation into a state of comatose. Governor Abiodun highlighted the groundbreaking move of deregulating the petroleum industry as a significant step taken by President Tinubu to alleviate the burden on Nigerians.

“President Tinubu has been able to do what no president has ever been able to do in the history of Nigeria,” Governor Abiodun remarked.

Also read 10 Top News in Nigeria from Major Nigerian Newspapers, Nov 27, 2023

Despite acknowledging the existing challenges, Governor Abiodun urged Nigerians to exercise patience, expressing confidence in the Tinubu-led administration’s capability to address the nation’s issues.

He added, “You know our President, besides being a former governor and a senator, he is also an accountant. So, he is someone who is very spot on, and all hands are on deck to turn this economy around. We are very hopeful, and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

This statement follows Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo’s recent assertion that Tinubu’s administration took over a “dead economy.” Soludo emphasized that the regime inherited an economy that seemed to stand but was already beyond revival.

Earlier in the month, during infrastructure loan negotiations in Saudi Arabia, President Tinubu also acknowledged substantial fiscal and infrastructure deficits inherited from the previous administration.

It’s noteworthy that President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, succeeding former President Muhammadu Buhari, both of whom belong to the All Progressives Congress.

CM Punk Returns to WWE After Nearly Decade Away

CM Punk returns to WWE after Survivor Series.

In a surprising turn of events, CM Punk has returned to WWE after an almost ten-year hiatus, thrilling fans at the Survivor Series event in the United States on Saturday night.

The 45-year-old wrestler left WWE in 2014, citing frustrations with creative storylines and inadequate medical care. His unexpected comeback was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

Speculation about Punk’s return intensified after he recently parted ways with rival wrestling company All Elite Wrestling (AEW). WWE’s chief content officer, Triple H, stated in a post-show press conference that Punk’s return was a last-minute development.

“This was one of those lightning in a bottle moments that came together very quickly, but we are incredibly excited about it,” Triple H remarked. “It didn’t start to come to fruition until everybody stopped thinking it was going to happen, and then all of a sudden it was happening.”

Addressing Punk’s previous hints about not returning to WWE, Triple H noted the growth and changes in both individuals and the wrestling landscape over the past decade.

“If you are the same person you were 10 years ago 10 years later, you’ve messed up. Everybody grows, everybody changes. And I’m a different person, he’s a different person, this is a different company and we’re all on the same even starting ground,” Triple H explained.

After leaving WWE in 2014, Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, briefly ventured into mixed martial arts with UFC. He joined AEW in 2021 but departed earlier this year after the All Out pay-per-view event at Wembley Stadium.

During his WWE return at Survivor Series, Punk did not participate in a wrestling match or enter the ring, yet his appearance generated a tremendous response from fans.

Social media erupted with reactions, with one fan describing it as the “biggest pop in the history of wrestling.”

Joe Clarkson, who attended Punk’s last AEW match, expressed his shock and joy at the unexpected return. He stated, “I’ve never been so glad to be proven wrong,” highlighting Punk’s significance in the wrestling world.

Sabrina Nicole, a WWE fan, described the moment as “an exciting time to be a wrestling fan” and expressed anticipation for Punk’s future storylines, possibly involving a feud with Seth Rollins, who seemed displeased at Punk’s return.

Randy Orton, another WWE star returning after over a year of absence, shared a smile with Punk in the ring. Cody Rhodes welcomed Punk back, stating, “If he can help with where we’re going and what we’re doing, absolutely welcome aboard. I have a feeling the CM Punk we’re getting is hungry, and that’s the best.”

  • United Nigeria Airlines’ Pilot Misses Route, Takes Us to Asaba Instead of Abuja: Passenger laments

United Nigeria Airlines’ Pilot Misses Route, Takes Us to Asaba Instead of Abuja: Passenger laments

United Nigeria Airlines‘ Navigation Blunder Raises Concerns Over Flight Safety.

Passengers aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight experienced an unexpected detour when the pilot mistakenly landed at Asaba instead of the intended destination, Abuja. The incident, which occurred on Sunday November 26, 2023, has prompted concerns about the airline’s operational procedures and the potential risks associated with such errors.

One passenger, who goes by the handle @Tesidorth, took to social media to share her bewildering experience. She wrote, “Pilot miss road, carry us go Asaba instead of Abuja. And a flight crew went ahead to announce ‘welcome to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.’ Whoever gave the pilot a wrong flight plan needs to be suspended.

The incident sparked immediate reactions from other passengers, with some expressing confusion and concern. According to @Tesidorth, there was even speculation about a possible hijacking as the crew remained silent about the error.

    United Nigeria Airlines

In response to the post, investigative Journalist, David Hundeyin explained that the mistake originated from an error in the flight plan. He wrote, “Someone in the airline’s ground crew wrote ‘ABV’ (Abuja call sign) as ‘ABB’ (Asaba call sign), leading to a wrong flight plan being passed to the pilot.”

Hundeyin went on to highlight the gravity of such errors in other countries, where it would likely trigger regulatory investigations, fines, and potential consequences for those responsible. However, he noted the apparent lack of stringent consequences in the unnamed country where the incident occurred.

“In the country that shall not be named, it’s literally just Sunday. Anyone who talks about it too much is a sensationalist who is looking for cheap popularity, AfterAllItHappensInOtherCountries etc., etc.,” Hundeyin remarked, pointing out a concerning trend of downplaying serious aviation incidents.

He further raised the stakes by referencing a recent incident where a flight route was mistakenly planned through restricted airspace for NAF 001, resulting in the Nigerian president being chased out of that airspace just two months ago. Despite such high-profile errors, Hundeyin expressed skepticism about the likelihood of significant consequences.

The incident has reignited discussions about the need for improved oversight and accountability in the country’s aviation sector. Questions have been raised about the effectiveness of existing safety measures and the potential risks associated with repeated errors in flight planning.

United Nigeria Airlines is yet to release an official statement addressing the incident. As passengers await further clarification, concerns linger over the potential implications of such errors on the safety and reputation of the airline.

Why UK Wants To Deport This Nigerian Student From Dundee University?

A Nigerian Masters student, Somtochukwu Okwuoha, is facing the prospect of imprisonment and deportation after a jury found him guilty of making terrorist threats against Dundee University.

Coup in Sierra Leone? What is happening as government declares curfew

Okwuoha, a 26-year-old international energy student, claimed to have hired members of ISIS to assist in bombing the university. He reportedly informed university staff about his plan to target the city with a chemical attack.

Following a trial, authorities found Somtochukwu Okwuoha guilty of seven charges, leading to his immediate incarceration. The 26-year-old is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Abubakar Malami Makes First Public Appearance Since Leaving Office

Sheriff William Wood will also consider the Crown’s motion for an order to deport Okwuoha back to Nigeria. During the trial, it was revealed that Okwuoha had informed university staff of his intention to carry out mass murder on the Dundee University campus.

Witnesses recounted Okwuoha’s claims of having a military background and the capability to create bombs, as well as the potential to unleash a deadly virus in the city.

Keith Mackle, 58, a retired director of student services, testified at Perth Sheriff Court, expressing his awareness of “serious concerns” in the autumn of 2021. He mentioned that staff members had received emails containing terrorist threats.

One message reportedly stated, “Expect one massive bomb explosion for the University of Dundee. I have contacted Isis terrorists to plant bombs on campus. I assure you that staff and students will die in great numbers. 9/11 will be like a joke compared to what will happen. Blood will spill, and flesh will scatter.”

Accommodation officer Shane Taylor told the court that Okwuoha accused him of being racist and revealed his plan to wipe out Scottish people as revenge.

The court found Okwuoha, currently a prisoner in Perth, guilty of threatening to murder university staff and committing terrorist crimes between December 2021 and June 2022.

He was also convicted of threatening mass murder, using biological weapons, revealing staff details to international authorities, and claiming to have planted bombs. Additionally, Okwuoha was found guilty of threatening to behead police officers and detonate bombs he allegedly placed at Dundee University.

The sentencing next month will determine the consequences for the convicted student. Authorities are also weighing the option of deporting Somtochukwu Okwuoha back to Nigeria.

Coup Attempt in Sierra Leone: Government Enforces Nationwide Curfew

In response to an attempted breach of the armoury at a military barracks in the capital, Freetown, the government has imposed a nationwide curfew in Sierra Leone.

The President issued a statement from his residence, asserting that the situation is under control. However, eyewitnesses on the ground report ongoing disturbances.

Residents of Freetown heard intense gunfire from the Wilberforce military barracks, located near the presidential lodge, early on Sunday morning.

A statement from the Ministry of Information announced an immediate curfew, urging citizens to stay indoors.

President Julius Maada Bio stated that calm has been restored, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining perpetrators.

While crowds cheered the display of soldiers in vehicles in Mali, a BBC reporter in Freetown highlighted the unclear situation. The reporter observed soldiers armed with heavy weapons, with some chanting about their intentions to “clean Sierra Leone.

In June, President Julius Maada Bio secured re-election after narrowly avoiding a run-off. In August, several individuals, including high-ranking military personnel, were arrested and accused of plotting a coup against the president.

Over the past three years, several West and Central African countries, including neighbouring Guinea, have experienced coups, leading to military rule.

We will continue to provide updates attempted Coup in Sierra Leone.

    Sierra Leone Profile:

Sierra Leone, a West African country, holds special significance in the history of the transatlantic slave trade, serving as a departure point for thousands of West African captives.

The capital, Freetown, was established in 1787 as a home for repatriated former slaves.

The modern history of the country is overshadowed by a brutal civil war that concluded in 2002 with the assistance of Britain, the former colonial power, and a substantial United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Despite experiencing significant economic growth in recent years, Sierra Leone still grapples with the lingering effects of the civil war.

Rich in diamonds and other minerals, the country has sought to combat the illicit trade of gems, known as “blood diamonds,” which played a role in funding conflicts during the civil war. The government is actively working to curb this illegal business.

Sierra Leone’s Turbulent History: From Civil War to Independence

Sierra Leone has endured a tumultuous history marked by a prolonged civil war, during which even child soldiers were drawn into the conflict. Let’s delve into key historical milestones:

500BC Onwards: Successive groups of people settle in Sierra Leone, facing the challenges posed by dense tropical rainforests that partially separate the region from other West African cultures.

1462: Portuguese explorer Pedro de Sintra maps the hills around what is now known as Freetown, naming them “Serra da Leoa” or “Serra Leoa” – Lioness Mountains.

1495: Portuguese traders establish a fortified trading post on the coast. Other nations, including the Dutch, English, and French, follow suit, establishing trading stations primarily focused on the slave trade.

1787: In the aftermath of the British defeat in the American Revolutionary War, thousands of Black Loyalists seek refuge in Sierra Leone, Canada, the West Indies, or London. British philanthropists establish a settlement in Sierra Leone to alleviate poverty, facing resistance from locals.

1792: Black Loyalists who initially settled in Nova Scotia, Canada, faced challenges and discrimination. Philanthropists assisted nearly 1,200 individuals who chose to relocate to Sierra Leone and establish the settlement of Freetown.

1808: Freetown settlement becomes a crown colony. With the abolition of slavery, the Royal Navy repatriates thousands of former African slaves to Freetown after freeing them from illegal slave ships.

1896: Britain establishes a protectorate over the Freetown hinterland.

    1961: Sierra Leone gains independence.

1967: A military coup removes Premier Siaka Stevens’ government, but he returns to power the following year, becoming president in 1971 after Sierra Leone becomes a republic.

1991: The civil war begins, led by former army corporal Foday Sankoh and his Revolutionary United Front (RUF) against President Joseph Saidu Momoh. They capture towns bordering Liberia.

1992: President Joseph Momoh is ousted in a military coup led by Captain Valentine Strasser. Under international pressure, Strasser announces plans for the first multi-party elections since 1967. The country witnesses a series of coups, leading to frequent changes in leadership.

2000: UN forces intervene in the east of the country, facing attacks and the kidnapping of hundreds of UN troops. Rebels attempt to seize Freetown, prompting the deployment of British paratroopers to evacuate citizens and secure the airport for UN peacekeepers. Rebel leader Foday Sankoh is captured.

2002: The civil war concludes, with the disarmament of 45,000 fighters. The government and the UN agree to establish a war crimes court. British troops conclude their two-year mission to help end the conflict.

2003: Rebel leader Foday Sankoh dies of natural causes while awaiting trial for war crimes.

2004: Sierra Leone holds its first local elections in more than three decades, and war crimes trials begin to investigate atrocities committed by both sides during the conflict.

2014-2016: Sierra Leone declares a state of emergency to combat the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa, resulting in the deaths of over 11,000 people in the region.

APC Alleges Governor Adeleke Missing, Questions Official Trip Claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has raised alarm over the absence of Governor Ademola Adeleke from government activities, declaring him missing.

Contrary to claims by his spokesperson of an official trip to Europe and Asia, the APC asserts that Adeleke has been vacationing in the United States for the past two weeks.

The Osun State APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, suggests that the governor’s absence during the upcoming celebration of his one-year administration may be an attempt to evade accountability.

Lawal accuses Adeleke of mismanagement and incompetence, alleging that he has run the state aground since assuming office in November 2022. The APC emphasizes concerns over the governor’s failure to address economic hardships faced by Osun residents.

Sooko Tajudeen Lawal Accusations Against Governor Ademola Adeleke Reads:

Governor Adeleke has been holidaying in the United States in the last two weeks, shortly after the debilitating defeat of his party in Kogi State, where he wasted meager resources of Osun people to prosecute the electoral misadventure of a co-mannequin, Dino Melaye.

“Of course, this is a mere prelude to a foundation-laying for excuses that Governor Adeleke would not be physically present in the state for the celebration of his one-year administration coming up tomorrow.

“It was reliably gathered that a recorded statement from the governor would be played for the people of the state instead of his physical presence tomorrow.

“No one can begrudge another for falling sick or nursing an ailment as such is beyond the control of any human being, but God Almighty, but it beholds on those who are holding the people’s mandate in trust to always tell the truth and stand by the truth.

“We know very well that Governor Adeleke has absconded from the state, so he would not be able to give due account of his stewardship to the people of the state.

“Since November 2022, when he came on board, Governor Adeleke has run the state aground with his sheer incompetence, lack of proper education, and zero administrative acumen.

“He is afraid to disclose to Osun people how he has mismanaged over N130billion revenue accrued to his government in the last year.

“He is afraid to tell them how he has allocated in the supplementary budget over N10billion for his food, entertainment, and office use while parents of UNIOSUN students are struggling to pay increased school fees his regime forced on them to pay.

“Governor Adeleke is ashamed to face the Osun people that one year after, his promise of making Osun another Dubai is a fluke told by a scoundrel and conman.

“Adeleke is distraught to face Osun people because he has failed to provide palliative for them in the face of economic hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and the N9billion he collected from the Federal Government, his demonic government has looted it.

“Adeleke is afraid to face the anger of Osun people that while a serious state like Ogun is investing in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, which is capable of making the cost of transportation cheaper per, Adeleke in a ploy to line his pocket, is putting Osun money in unsustainable diesel-propelled vehicles purchased over 10 years ago.”

Kogi Election Tribunal Orders INEC To Grant SDP Access To Election Materials

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja has issued a decisive order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant access to vital election materials related to the state’s gubernatorial election.

This ruling stems from a petition filed by Muritala Yakubu Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), represented by legal counsel S.E. Aruwa SAN, who sought access to essential documents for their case.

Presiding Tribunal Judge Justice Yusuf Ado Birnin-Kudu deemed the application meritorious, aligning it with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Law of 2023.

Consequently, the tribunal granted an order mandating INEC to provide certified copies of the election materials within two days.
