President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner on Sunday, following a competitive election against 16 other candidates vying for the seat at Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City.

The election was conducted across 4,519 polling units in the 18 local government areas of Edo State. Okpebholo’s victory was hailed by President Tinubu, who also expressed appreciation to APC national and state leaders for their efforts in securing the win.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu stated that the result reflects the people’s support for the ruling party’s progressive policies and its commitment to economic reforms aimed at improving Nigerians’ lives.

However, the president urged Okpebholo to embrace humility in his victory, encouraging him to reach out to his political opponents to foster unity and development in Edo State.

Tinubu further praised the other candidates for their role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy through peaceful participation, and he urged any aggrieved parties to seek legal redress.

Commending the people of Edo State for their orderly conduct during the election, the president noted that the peaceful process signifies the growth of democracy in Nigeria, which has been nurtured over the past 25 years.

“I commend INEC and our security agencies for ensuring a successful, peaceful, and largely hitch-free election. INEC has once again demonstrated its commitment to conducting free and fair elections in Nigeria,” Tinubu added.
