INEC Declares Monday Okpebholo Winner of Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election.

Okpebholo emerged victorious in a highly competitive off-cycle election, which saw 17 candidates vying for the position at Osadebe House in Benin City, Edo State.

Edo State Governorship Election Results 2024 from 18 LGAs

The election, held across 4,519 polling units in all 18 local government areas, witnessed widespread participation. Okpebholo was supported by former governor and current senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole.

The APC candidate faced tough competition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.

Okpebholo won 11 local government areas out of the total 18, leaving Ighodalo with only 7.

INEC announced that Okpebholo secured victories in key local government areas, including Esan West, Owan West, Egor, Akoko-Edo, Esan Central, Orhionmwon, Etsako East, Etsako Central, Etsako West, and Oredo.
