Senate Removes Ali Ndume as Chief Whip Days After Criticizing Tinubu
Abuja – In a precipitous and dramatic turn of events, the Nigerian Senate has removed Senator Ali Ndume as the Chief Whip. Mohammed Monguno has been appointed to replace him.
His sacking came just days after Mr. Ndume, one of the vocal senators representing Borno State, berated the government of President Bola Tinubu. In a previous live television interview, the Senator Ali Ndume accused the government of being “loaded with looters” and how he had become ashamed to be one of the senior party members of the ruling All Progressive Congress.

The Wednesday afternoon development is only going to widen the already visible cracks within the APC, which has been at loggerheads with itself over the country’s direction. Bold comments from Mr. Ndume added fuel to the fire, pitching high-pitched debates on the effectiveness of the current administration.
Under President Tinubu, the economic condition is worse and many more millions of Nigerians have been swallowed by poverty. Danjuma Goje and Mr. Ndume have shown concern, which is why the former has accused the present administration of not recognizing this general trend of continual deterioration and doing something to arrest the situation. But President Tinubu has strenuously denied that there was any corruption in his regime, insisting that his team manages the crises of the country with prudence and a sense of responsibility.

All efforts to get Mr. Ndume’s comments over his removal were unsuccessful. Sources close to the leadership of the Senate said his removal was masterminded by some presidency loyalists of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, having a hand in it.
The sudden change in leadership at the Senate raises a red flag on the ongoing tension and power tussle within the APC, raising questions about party cohesion and the future of its governance.
A large number of supporters and critics of this administration will be watching the implications of the ouster of Senator Ndume as political events unfold.
