The Nigerian presidency has officially dismissed circulating rumors about a proposed N105,000 minimum wage. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, clarified that the news is false, contradicting reports that Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, had suggested the figure.

Recently, rumors emerged online claiming that Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, had proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000. This report quickly spread, creating a buzz among the public and labor sectors.

However, Bayo Onanuga took to his X handle to refute these claims. He categorically stated:

  • “The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false.”

President Bola Tinubu had recently directed Wale Edun to present a new wage template within two days.
