A video that has shattered the conscience of the nation shows the final, desperate moments of Mene Ogidi. Handcuffed, on his knees, and begging for his life, Ogidi screamed, “I will talk, I will take you to the person who gave me the waybill!” But his plea fell on deaf ears.

In a chilling act of extra-judicial murder captured by a brave eyewitness, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman calmly collected a magazine, loaded his AK-47, and blew the suspect away in broad daylight.

The incident, which has since gone viral under the hashtag #JusticeForMeneOgidi, occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, along the ever-busy Warri–Sapele Expressway in Effurun, Delta State. It has ignited a firestorm of outrage, pitting a seemingly remorseful Nigeria Police Force leadership against a public demanding blood for blood.

The Crime and the Confession
According to police sources, the drama began at Benin Motor Park. Transport union members had intercepted a suspicious parcel—a ‘waybill’ package concealing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition. Ogidi, the man allegedly sending the parcel, was apprehended and handed over to operatives from the Effurun Area Command.

But what should have been a routine handover and investigation turned into a public execution. In the distressing footage obtained exclusively by Ejes Gist News, Ogidi is seen subdued and restrained. He was no longer a threat. In fact, he was offering the golden ticket every investigator dreams of: a direct link to the arms dealer.

Ignoring the sanctity of life and police rules of engagement, ASP Usman—described by witnesses as being in a fit of “trigger-happy” rage—took a magazine, inserted it, and fired a fatal shot. Ogidi, identified fully as Oghenemine Ogidi, slumped and died instantly. He did not twitch. He did not move. He was silenced forever.

Force Headquarters Condemns “Abuse of Authority”

In a surprisingly swift damage control move, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, released a statement condemning the killing. The police high command described the act as a “clear violation of extant regulations” and an abuse of authority.

“The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force has directed the immediate transfer of the officer and his team to Force Headquarters, Abuja,” the statement read. “They would face the Force Disciplinary Committee for summary disciplinary measures and prosecution.”

Inspector-General of Police extended condolences to the grieving family, assuring them that justice would be served and reiterating a “zero-tolerance stance on extra-judicial actions.”

“Discipline is Not Enough, Charge Him for Murder” – Nigerians React
However, the promise of “disciplinary measures” has done little to quench the fury on Nigerian social media. Civil society organizations and residents of Effurun are leading the charge, insisting that ASP Usman must be charged with murder, not just dismissed.

The primary question shaking the public trust is: Why? If Ogidi was truly handcuffed and offering to spill the beans on an arms network, who was ASP Usman trying to protect? The conspiracy theories are growing louder by the minute, with many calling for an independent probe into the officer’s connection to local arms dealers.

“When a suspect starts singing like a bird, but the police shuts him up permanently, we must ask who the real criminal is,” one human rights lawyer posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Evidence

Thanks to the courage of the eyewitness who recorded the incident—often a risky endeavor in Nigeria—the video is now the primary evidence. The clip makes it nearly impossible for the force to spin the usual narrative of a “gun duel” or “escape attempt.”

As the officers are moved to Abuja for trial, Nigerians are watching. The call is loud: if a killer cop is caught on camera and still escapes the full weight of the law, what hope is there for the common man?

What do you think? Should a life sentence await this officer, or is the Force Disciplinary Committee enough? Drop your comments and share this story until justice for Mene Ogidi is served.
