The Niger Delta Progressive Women Worldwide has publicly praised Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for its outstanding contributions to peace, security, and economic revival in the Niger Delta, while also commending the leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP) under Dr. Dennis Otuaro. This endorsement underscores the group’s belief that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the right choice by awarding the oil surveillance contract to Tantita.
Praise for Tantita and PAP Leadership
Comrade Andakuro Miebi, the National Coordinator of the women’s group, scored Dr. Otuaro and Tantita’s leadership high for their peace-building and economic revival efforts. The group called on fathers, brothers, and uncles in the region to end smear campaigns against Otuaro, Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), and Tantita’s Managing Director, Kestin Pondi. Instead, they appealed for more supportive narratives that recognize leaders working diligently to ensure peace in the Niger Delta.
Key Achievements and Corporate Social Responsibility
The women explicitly applauded Tantita for its educational support to less privileged individuals across the Niger Delta, health interventions, skills acquisition programs for women, girls, and youths, and for giving women roles in security—a field traditionally dominated by men. These initiatives have had a tangible positive impact on communities.
Economic and Security Transformations
According to the group, women’s livelihoods depend on fishing in the creeks. Before Tantita’s arrival, pollution from oil bunkering destroyed the water and fishing camps. Now, however, the creeks are cleaner and safer for fishing and farming. The women also highlighted several economic impacts of Tantita’s operations:
- Security: Kidnapping, which was almost a daily experience, has been significantly curbed. The creeks and major waterways have been cleared of sea piracy.
- Economic: Women have been “wrestled from poverty” and are now engaged in petty trade or agriculture. Youths are employed as custodians of oil assets instead of participating in bunkering.
- Community: Dialogue has replaced conflict, fostering unity between the Niger Delta and neighbouring states.
- CSR: Tantita has provided scholarships and stipends for students, road rehabilitation, the donation of a Police Area Command Headquarters in Gbaramatu, and solar power for nursing colleges.
Call for Contract Renewal and Federal Support
The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustain Tantita’s pipeline surveillance contract. They appealed to stakeholders to provide more support to counter enemies of the country who are attempting to frustrate Tantita’s efforts to stop oil thieves. Additionally, they appealed to the Federal Government to do more for Tantita to support Progressive Women across the Niger Delta region.
