Kogi Assembly Demands EFCC Chairman Olukoyede’s Immediate Removal, See Scary Reasons
Kogi Assembly Demands Removal of EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Over Alleged Attack on Yahaya Bello.
The Kogi State House of Assembly has called for the immediate dismissal of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, accusing him of orchestrating an assassination attempt on former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

The Assembly raised the allegation during its plenary session on Monday, where members expressed concerns over what they termed an “unjustified assault” by the EFCC on the Kogi State Government Lodge. The Assembly described these actions as a direct affront to the sitting Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the people of Kogi State.
Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf, while addressing the plenary, stated, “The incidents on April 17 and September 18 are formally categorized as assassination attempts on former Governor Yahaya Bello, and by extension, a threat to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s life.”
Yusuf further condemned the EFCC for what he described as the use of live rounds in a diplomatic zone during their operation, asserting that the agency has overstepped its authority. He stated, “The EFCC, under its current leadership, seems to believe it is above the law and unaccountable for its actions.”
The Assembly resolved that Olukoyede’s tenure has been marked by incompetence and urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove him from office. They called for the appointment of a more capable leader who can uphold the administration’s commitment to the rule of law.
The former governor, Yahaya Bello, has been involved in a series of legal battles with the EFCC following his exit from office, including an ongoing ₦80.2 billion money laundering case. Despite reports last week that Bello had honored an invitation by the EFCC, the agency denied having him in custody, stating that he remains a wanted man.
The situation continues to escalate as the Kogi Assembly pushes for a change in the EFCC leadership.
