The Bauchi State governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, has resigned his membership of the party, fuelling speculation that he may be heading to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kashim, a former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, announced his resignation in a statement signed and released to the media in Bauchi on Monday.

He stated that his resignation took effect on October 16, 2026, adding that the decision followed careful reflection.

Although he did not disclose his next political destination, Kashim hinted that he would communicate his next move to his supporters in due course.

His resignation comes amid reports that he is preparing to join the ruling APC, although he has yet to formally announce his defection to the party.

In his message to supporters, the former NDC governorship candidate maintained that leaving the party would not weaken his commitment to the political struggle for a better Bauchi State.

He said the state deserved purposeful leadership, a stronger economy, greater opportunities for youths and women, improved security, and a future where citizens could live with dignity and hope.

Kashim further assured his supporters that their political journey was far from over, urging them to remain calm, steadfast and united while awaiting his decision on the next phase of their political engagement.

“Our political journey is far from over, and our commitment to the rescue and development of Bauchi State remains unwavering,” he said.

He added that he would continue to engage with individuals and groups who shared his vision of a peaceful, prosperous and economically vibrant Bauchi State.

According to him, the mission to develop the state transcends party affiliation, stressing that the future and welfare of the people remain the priority.

“Our mission is bigger than any political party; it is about the future of our people and the destiny of our state and country,” Kashim said.

As of the time of filing this report, Kashim had not formally announced his defection to the APC or disclosed the political platform on which he intends to pursue his next move.
