The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election, despite reports of a court intervention challenging the party’s position.

The party made its position known in a press statement dated October 29, 2026, signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, PhD.

The statement followed reports circulating on social media, which the APC described as unverified claims about a purported change in its senatorial candidate for Imo West.

The party maintained that Uzodimma, a former senator and incumbent governor of Imo State, remains its candidate, insisting that he emerged victorious in the party’s primary election with the support of the majority of its members.

“The Party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great Party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our Party members,” the statement said.

APC to Review Legal Intervention

Although the party reaffirmed Uzodimma’s candidacy, it acknowledged the legal development surrounding the dispute, saying its legal department would examine the outcome before deciding on its next course of action.

“The Party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” the statement added.

The APC did not provide further details about the legal review or specify what steps it might take after examining the outcome.

Party Urges Members to Remain Focused

The ruling party also called on its members and supporters across Imo State to remain committed to its political activities despite the controversy surrounding the Imo West senatorial ticket.

It urged them not to be distracted by reports circulating on social media and encouraged continued efforts towards securing victory for the party across constituencies in the state.

The statement ended with the party’s slogan, “APC… Progress!”

Background to the Imo West Dispute

The controversy centres on the APC’s senatorial ticket for Imo West, also known as Orlu Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s latest statement signals its determination to maintain Uzodimma’s candidacy while its legal team reviews the court-related development.

However, the APC’s position does not, on its own, determine the legal status of the nomination. The implications of the court intervention will depend on the terms of the ruling and any subsequent legal steps taken by the parties involved.

The dispute could therefore remain a significant issue for the APC in Imo State as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
