The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has condemned the recent invasion of Urban Radio 94.5 FM in Enugu by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The incident, which occurred on October 14, saw EFCC officers storming the radio station during the live broadcast of the popular programme Prime Time in an attempt to arrest the presenter, Favour Ekoh.

In a statement released by NBC’s Director of Public Affairs, Susan Obi, the commission expressed disappointment over the incident, highlighting that it posed a serious violation of broadcasting ethics.
The NBC emphasised the disruptive nature of the raid, particularly given that it took place during a live programme, potentially disturbing public order and causing panic.
NBC condemned the EFCC’s approach, urging the agency to reconsider its mode of operation when dealing with matters involving the media.
The commission acknowledged EFCC’s vital role in the fight against corruption but stressed the need for respect for professional broadcasting standards.
The NBC also issued an apology to the people of Enugu State, the station’s audience, and the entire broadcasting industry, urging the public to remain law-abiding as legal processes unfold.
The statement underscored the delicate balance between enforcing the law and preserving media freedom, noting that actions like this could undermine public trust in the media.
The commission’s statement reads in part: “This action is regrettable, considering the impact of the broadcast media on the society.”
In another development, the EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyode, has ordered an investigation into an unrelated N15 million bribery allegation involving the commission’s officers.
The allegation, raised by social media personality Very Dark Man (VDM), accuses EFCC officials of accepting a bribe from Bobrisky to drop a case against the social media influencer. The EFCC has invited both VDM and Bobrisky for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
