EFCC Warns Against Planned Protest, Vows to Maintain Law and Order.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning regarding a planned protest against its operations. Amid widespread calls on social media for a nationwide protest following alleged illegal raids by EFCC operatives, the Commission emphasized it will not tolerate any breakdown of law.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the EFCC claims that a shadowy group has been mobilizing young Nigerians, including students, via social media campaigns to protest against its enforcement activities, especially those targeting cybercrimes. The Commission expressed concerns that individuals under investigation or prosecution might be behind this movement, aiming to incite a national uprising that could jeopardize the country’s peace and security.

While acknowledging the citizens’ right to protest, the EFCC emphasized that it will not tolerate any disruptions to law and order, particularly around its offices nationwide. The Commission has assured the public that it is working with other security agencies to address any potential threats.

The EFCC also urged parents, guardians, and heads of tertiary institutions to prevent their wards from being exploited in the campaign against the Commission. It stressed that its anti-corruption and anti-cybercrime efforts are crucial for safeguarding the future of Nigeria’s youth.
