Delta Commissioner Kingsley Ashibogwu Arrested Over Deputy Director’s Death

Police in Delta State have detained the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects as they investigate the death of a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda.

The development means five people are now being held in connection with the case.

In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the search for two people described as “key suspects” had been stepped up, adding that their presence was required to advance the investigation.

They are Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.

The police asked both of them to make themselves available to the Command without further delay.

Adeda died at his workplace, a death that prompted concern among colleagues, organised labour and sections of the Delta State public service.

According to the police, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the investigation would be carried out thoroughly, impartially and professionally.

The Command said due process would be followed and that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

“The Command’s heartfelt condolences go to the deceased family,” Edafe stated.

The police did not release the identities of the three other people taken into custody alongside the commissioner, and did not specify the allegations against any of those under investigation.

The Command’s action marks a significant escalation of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
