Bolt Driver Drags Abia Lawmaker Ikwechegh to Court Over Alleged Assault
A Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, has taken Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a lawmaker representing Abia North/South federal constituency, to court, accusing him of assault. The alleged incident reportedly took place on Sunday, October 27, with Abuwatseya filing a petition against Ikwechegh on Monday, October 28.
The case will be prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police Special Investigation Unit at the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja. Abuwatseya’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, stated in a press release on October 30 that the arraignment is set for 12 p.m. today.

Allegations Against the Lawmaker
In the complaint, Abuwatseya accuses Ikwechegh of multiple offenses, including assault, abuse of power, attempted murder, and threats to his life. The lawyer urged the media to cover the hearing, emphasizing the gravity of the charges.
Ikwechegh’s Apology
The incident has stirred public interest, especially after a video capturing the confrontation circulated widely on social media. In response, Ikwechegh issued an apology on Tuesday, acknowledging the harm caused to the driver, his constituents, and the nation.
The lawmaker has pledged full cooperation with the ongoing police investigation and expressed his intent to undergo professional counseling and perform community service to address the matter.
