  • Stop Punishing Your Husband By Denying Him S3x – Nigerian Lawyer Advises Women

    post

A Nigerian lawyer, Stella, has urged married women to stop punishing their husbands by denying them s3x.

According to her, this can make him lose interest in s3xual intercourse and can lead to problems in the marriage.

“STOP playing GAMES with S3X if you a married woman. STOP punishing your husband by denying him S3X. THIS can make him not to have interest in the other room. If your S3XUÅL life is destroyed, your marriage will suffer it. The same is applicable to men,” she wrote on Thursday.

No One is Planning Any Protest, Olayinka Urges Govt to Just Do Its Job

A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the government to focus on its responsibilities instead of worrying about an imaginary nationwide protest, stating, “no one is planning any protest.”

Olayinka, a PDP House of Representatives candidate in last year’s general elections, remarked in a statement on Friday that “protests are not planned and held by giving one month notice,” adding, “it is either the government is distracting itself over nothing or the noise about the protest is being used to distract Nigerians.

He described peaceful protest as a fundamental right of all Nigerians, noting that “President Bola Tinubu, who himself is a product of political protests, will not prevent Nigerians from exercising their rights to complain to the government using the instrument of peaceful protest.”

Olayinka said, “Protests are spontaneous reactions to issues, not what is planned for months. The one in Kenya was a spontaneous reaction to the passage of a bill to impose more taxes on the people. It did not start months after the bill had been passed; it started immediately.

“Therefore, the government and its agencies should stop promoting and advertising an imaginary protest that I am not sure anyone is planning. Or how many Nigerians were aware of any protest before the government started speaking about it?

“It thus appears to me that the government seems to be promoting a non-existent or imaginary protest. The government, yes, must take responsibility for the state of the nation, particularly our sick economy, but all Nigerians are culpable, and we must all work together to rescue the country.”

While lamenting that the noise about the protest has become a kind of money-making venture, Olayinka said, “After August 2, the government will stop bothering itself about an imaginary protest. By then, too, those using a protest that no one is planning to cash out must have cashed out enough, and they will allow Nigerians to have peace.”

He found it amusing that security agencies, which could not protect Nigerians against terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, are now very active, issuing numerous press statements.

“All the noise from security agencies is just targeted at being ‘mobilized’. They know that there won’t be any protest. Or aren’t we being told now that over 4,000 policemen will be deployed in Abuja alone?”

Olayinka urged the government to continue engaging with the people and to set an example rather than issuing warnings and blaming opposition elements.

He said, “The truth is, the problems of Nigeria are so many and overwhelming to be solved overnight by any government. However, the public will have more trust in the government when they see that people in government are also making sacrifices.

“While the public’s right to protest is helpful to keep the government in check, it is also meaningful if we work and act within the ambits of the law; otherwise, it will be counterproductive and set us back further.”

  • I Hope My Story Can Help Another Child Who Also Experienced The Same Thing – South African R@pe Victim Speaks Out As She Gets Justice 27 Years Later

     Siphokazi Nonjobe

A South African woman who was s3xually violated in 1997 and decided to file charges in 2021 has finally gotten justice after her r@pist was sentenced in June 2024.

He was convicted 27 years after the incident.

The woman says r@pe victims should open cases against their abusers regardless of when the crime occurred.

Siphokazi Nonjobe, who was only 14 years old when Xolani Qanqane r@ped her, said as long as the perpetrator is still alive, victims must pursue justice to make sure their abusers answer for what they did

The media is not allowed to identify s3xual violence victims, however, Nonjobe, 41, waived her right to anonymity.

“If my story can help another child who also experienced the same thing, then let’s give it a face so that they become courageous and open cases,
” she said in an interview on Tuesday, July 23.

At the time that Qanqane r@ped Nonjobe, he was a photographer at a mall in Qonce, Eastern Cape.

The r@pe, Nonjobe said, had left her broken.

“I used to fantasise about getting a gun and shooting him or hiring people to beat him up,” she said.

She never told anyone about it until 2004 when she was at university.

“I used to freeze during intimacy and decided it was time to come clean to my boyfriend because he loved me enough for me to open up to him.

“I told him everything and he was very supportive and comforting.”

The two later broke up as the man moved to Gauteng while Nonjobe remained in the Eastern Cape and later pursued her Master’s degree.

Then one day in May 2021, Nonjobe was shopping when she saw a man wearing a cowboy hat that looked like the one her r@pist used to wear.

The hat triggered the memory of her being r@ped 24 years earlier. She went to the police station immediately and opened a case

According to Nonjobe, the policewoman assisting her did not even flinch when she told her that the r@pe happened in 1997. She told her that she had a right to open a case and gave her a document to write her statement.

As soon as she had that pen in her hand, everything came pouring out and by the time she was done, she had written an 11-page statement. Investigations then started.

The fact that Qanqane had been a well-known photographer who later became a taxi driver helped the police to start somewhere.

They later traced him to prison. When they got there they were informed that Qanqane had been released the previous day after serving 10 years for murd3r.

However, they were able to find him shortly afterwards.

The matter went to trial in 2023 but Nonjobe said Qanqabe’s “tricks” delayed the matter.

“He kept changing lawyers. At some point he said the magistrate must recuse himself as he had convicted him of the same offence [r@pe] years back and will be biased… the matter would be postponed multiple times.”

The matter only went ahead without interruptions this year at the Zwelitsha regional court.

As there was no physical evidence of the r@pe, the state relied on the testimony of three witnesses: Nonjobe, her ex-boyfriend from university and an old neighbour of Qanqane.

The ex-boyfriend corroborated what Nonjone had told him 20 years ago about the r@pe.

The neighbour also confirmed that Qanqane used to live where Nonjobe said the r@pe had taken place. He also confirmed that Qanqane indeed used to be a photographer.

Nonjobe said she did not crumble from tough questions from Qanqabe’s lawyer during cross-examination because she knew her truth and stuck to it

“I felt that it was a do-or-die moment for me.”

According to Nonjobe, all that Qanqabe did was deny that he had r@ped her but did not put forward a defence. Qanqabe was found guilty of r@pe last month.

Nonjobe said she did not display any emotion as the verdict was handed down.

“I think it was delayed trauma; I was still processing what had happened. I only cried when I got home,” she said.

Qanqane was handed an 11-year sentence.

    Xolani Qanqane

Nonjobe said when she opened the case, she did not think she would win as it had happened a long time ago. All she wanted was to confront Qanqabe in court and tell him how much he had broken her when she r@ped her.

Her healing has now started since Qanqabe’s conviction and subsequent sentence, Nonjobe said.

She has nothing but praise for the police and prosecutor who helped put Qanqabe behind bars for r@ping her.

“I don’t think it was an easy case; they worked overtime to help me. If it weren’t for them, my strength would have weakened,
    ” she said.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Luxolo Tyali, said the challenging thing about Nonjobe’s case was the fact that there was no forensic evidence to corroborate her statement.

Most of the evidence was that of Nonjobe and her ex-boyfriend, to whom she had made the first report, Tyali said.

“Thorough police investigation which placed Qangabe where he was alleged to be in 1997, the evidence of the first report, as well as the prosecutor’s ability to poke holes in the cross-examination of Qanqabe ensured that justice is served.”

Tyali said he hoped Nonjobe’s case would encourage other victims to seek justice.

“R@pe cases do not prescribe. We hope that other victims of s3xual violence will be encouraged to come forward, even if their assault took place a long time ago,” he said.

  • When will Tinubu Sign N70,000 Minimum Wage Bill into Law? Date Revealed

When will Tinubu Sign N70,000 Minimum Wage Bill into Law? Date Revealed

Tinubu to Sign N70,000 Minimum Wage Bill into Law: Date Revealed.

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Presidency has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to sign the N70,000 minimum wage bill into law next week after passage by the National Assembly recently.

The bill would be finally ready on Wednesday and is to be transmitted to the President on Thursday, sources in the National Assembly have confirmed. This should reflect the urgency that the bill has been treated with by the legislature.

Senator Abdullahi Gumel, Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, further confirmed its transmission. “The bill will be transmitted today (Thursday),” he told our correspondent earlier on Thursday.

The bill is sure to receive swift assent from the President, as it aims to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2019. The Senate and the House of Representatives passed almost in record time the amendment bill during Tuesday’s plenary sessions. In both chambers, the bill had second and third readings within minutes before being passed following a clause-by-clause consideration by the Committee of the Whole.

NNPC Recruitment 2024: How to apply, Requirements & available positions

This came after President Tinubu had earlier forwarded an executive bill to the National Assembly for the review of the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. He also pleaded that the period for periodic review of the minimum wage should be reduced from five years to three years.

Tinubu pegged the minimum wage at N70,000. The wage is meant to replace the former N30,000 minimum wage that was due for retirement on April 18, 2024.

The National Assembly hastened the passage of the executive bill to finally nail the agreement. In his speech while announcing the new wage benchmark, President Tinubu pointed out that it would be by a harmonized effort that would drive the economy. “We are driving this economy together. Let us look at the tenure of review. Let us agree on that and affirm three years. Two years is too short. We stand by three years. We will review it. I am going to move from the tripartite committee. I am going to edge a little bit forward, looking at the review we have done. Yes, no one in the federal establishment should earn less than N70,000. So, we are going to benchmark at N70,000,” he stated.

The Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage, constituted in the month of January, presented two different proposals to the President for his consideration, as stakeholders could not reach an accord. While the Government team and Organised Private Sector are proposing N62,000, Organised Labour insists on N250,000. Upon receiving the report of the committee, further dialogues were held between President Tinubu and relevant stakeholders to harmonize the figures before the executive bill is sent to the National Assembly.

This impending legislation is a drastic step to mollify wage concerns and ensure a more decent standard of living for the average Nigerian worker.

  • I Owe No Cabal, I Spent My Personal Fortune On Election – President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that he has no sponsors and does not owe any cabal because he spent his personal fortune on pursuing his presidential bid during the 2023 polls.

The President, who received a delegation of Islamic leaders led by Sheikh Bala Lau, at the State House on Thursday, July 15, said his victory at the polls was purely by divine intervention.

The President dismissed claims that he is being controlled by some ‘’cabal” to make some of the economic reforms his administration embarks on.

“I have no cabal. I have no sponsors. The money I spent on the elections was my personal fortune. At some point, the odds were against me; banks were locked. But Allah, the Almighty God, said I will be the President. Mine is to now follow the leading and teaching of the Almighty God. One of the most potent elements of defence is a good conscience. It is also a defence against corruption.

What should be uppermost in our minds is the future of our children. We have a lot to teach them on what it takes to be a good citizen and what it takes to be a responsible citizen

    ,’’ the President said

President Tinubu said protests fuelled by anger and hate, could degenerate into violence and set the country backwards.

“We are reworking the social welfare scheme to reach the ward level, which is the closest to our people. We are going to ensure that we re-establish connection with the wards, again, so that we can give allowances to the poor and the vulnerable.

The student loans will pay for school fees. There will be monetary support for the education of our children. The consumer credit will support citizens to buy cars and houses, and they can repay gradually. We have increased the minimum wage by more than 100 percent,

    ’’ the President said.

Tinubu said the ”sponsors” of protests place their selfish ambitions above the national interest.

“The sponsors of protests do not love our country. They have no love for the nation. They do not understand citizenship. They have alternative passports. They are in different parts of the world holding meetings virtually.

We do not want to turn Nigeria into Sudan. We are talking about hunger, not burials. We have to be careful. We should be careful with premature politics; politics of hate, and anger. The internet has made it possible to hold meetings in artificial settings. They hold meetings and sponsor anger,’’

the President told the religious leaders.

We Made Our Voices Heard, Tinubu Admits He Protested Against Bad Government

ABUJA, NIGERIA – President Bola Tinubu has publicly acknowledged his participation in peaceful protests during Nigeria’s military era.

This admission was made during a ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, where Tinubu received a Letter of Credence from the new U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr.

President Tinubu reminisced about his involvement in protests against military dictatorship, emphasizing his commitment to democratic principles. “Our relationship with America is rich. We believe in democracy and freedom.

Some of your predecessors worked hard during our transition to democracy, and we remember the likes of Ambassador Howard Jeter,” Tinubu said.

He continued, “During the military era, we made our voices heard against dictatorship, and I was part of the group that engaged in peaceful protests without resorting to the destruction of property. We have worked hard to ensure 25 years of unbroken democracy, and I will continue to maintain this democracy.”

Tinubu’s reflections come at a time when the nation is bracing for a planned nationwide protest over the deteriorating economic situation. This forthcoming demonstration echoes past protests, such as the January 2012 mass protest against President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to remove fuel subsidies.

Despite Nigeria’s then-thriving economy, Tinubu, along with notable figures like Wole Soyinka and Tunde Bakari, led the charge against Jonathan’s policy, highlighting the enduring spirit of activism in Nigeria’s political landscape.

While affirming his belief in the importance of peaceful demonstrations as a democratic right, Tinubu stressed his administration’s stance against protests that result in violence and property destruction. “We will never encourage any protests that lead to the destruction of lives and property,” he asserted.

The President’s acknowledgment of his activist past and his call for peaceful protest underscore the enduring challenges and commitments in Nigeria’s democratic journey. As the country faces economic hardships, Tinubu’s leadership will be closely watched for its ability to balance democratic freedoms with maintaining public order.

ABUJA, NIGERIA – Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended an invitation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pay a State Visit to China in September. The invitation was presented by the visiting Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Chen Xiaodong, during a visit to the Aso Villa on Thursday.

August 1st Protest: TUC Calls for Police Protection for Protesters

August 1st Protest in Nigeria latest news today.

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria said it has made its stand on the countrywide protest planned for 1 August crystal clear, and it would not be participating in the exercise. However, TUC President Festus Osifo said it is rather clear that the police have a binding duty to ensure protection for anyone going out to protest.

Osifo, while briefing pressmen in Abuja on Thursday, also spoke on other sundry issues, including calling on President Bola Tinubu to wade into the crisis rocking Dangote Refineries and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL. He further explained reasons the organised labour accepted the N70,000 national minimum wage.

Even though there was wide publicity on the protest against hunger and bad governance, according to TUC, it has not received any invitation from the organizers to join the procession; that created a huge gap within the Labour Movement over the protest.

On this count, the TUC would further appeal to President Tinubu to wade into the matter between Dangote Refineries and NNPCL, in which the bone of contention has to do with claims of substandard fuel on one hand and problems related to crude oil supply, which have wider implications for the economy.

He further defended the newly agreed national minimum wage of N70,000, addressing criticisms. Osifo explained what led the organised labour to agreeing on the figure. He admitted the dissatisfaction from some quarters but said the union remained committed to ensuring a level playing ground in labour relations.

On a related issue, the TUC commended the police for intervening on time at the instance of the National Secretariat of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria. The timely intervention of law enforcement agents forestalled bloody clashes between factions in one of the largest affiliate unions of the TUC over a leadership tussle.

With the planned date of protest inching closer, it proves that with the TUC asking for police protection for the protesters, the union will not back off in securing Nigerians’ rights to peaceful protest against mistreatment. The TUC stance also mirrors the greater concern for maintaining order and protecting the citizenry amidst growing discontent over economic and governance issues.

Oronsaye Report: Filmmakers Appeal Against Proposed Wind Down Of NFVCB

Stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry have appealed to the Federal Government not to wind down the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) as it begins implementation of Oronsaye Report.

The filmmakers, who made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, said NFVCB should be retained as the regulatory agency for the motion picture industry.

According to them, any alteration on the current status of the board, in form of merger or subsuming, will be counterproductive and impede contributions the industry is making to national economy.

Veteran filmmaker, Paul Apel-Papel, said Nollywood was too large to be without a specific agency like the NFVCB to regulate its affairs.

According to the Colorado Film School-trained filmmaker, acclaimed for directing the 2021 war action drama film ‘Eagle Wings’, is playing critical role in ensuring that Nollywood keeps its sanity.

“We are not in support of subsuming or merger because we are even looking forward to a specific ministry that will focus on Nollywood properly as we grow from here.

“The Federal Government should think of how it can actually make a specific focus on Nollywood the way it is doing for agriculture, because after agriculture, the industry is the largest employer of labour.

“We are bringing revenue; we are creating jobs and we are positively promoting the image of the country globally.

“Nollywood is not getting any direct support; everybody is trying to develop their craft and then the only agency we have they want to take it back to the ministry and kill it,” he said.

Habib Mohammed, National President, Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), said it was not possible for such a regulatory body in a critical sector to function effectively as a department.

“The move to subsume the board as part of the ministry will be a real setback to the development already achieved.

“Let us not forget that the board was in the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture as a department, and the creation of the board has developed the industry to where it is today.

“Let the policymakers have a rethink and we are also calling on the National Assembly to stand on its feet for the board to keep its statutory position,” he said.

Preseason: You Spent Billions – Wrexham Coach Mocks Chelsea After 2-2 Draw

Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson, has insisted that his team should have beaten “billion-pound team” Chelsea in their pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.

Jack Marriott and Luke Bolton scored in the second half to give the League One side the lead after Christopher Nkunku’s first-half strike.

However, Lesley Ugochukwu saved the Blues’ blushes with a 82nd-minute equaliser.

“To go toe-to-toe with Chelsea tonight, you can understand what an effort that was from the lads and we could and should have won the game.”
