Fayose believes that, similar to the peace achieved in the Niger Delta with Tompolo’s involvement, a contract for Kanu could bring stability to the Southeast.

     

    Fayose argued, “releasing Nnamdi Kanu will reduce crime in the South-East by 50%. And APC will get more votes in 2027. If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give a contract to Tompolo to have peace in the Niger Delta, why can’t we do the same in the South-East?”

  • Stop Using My Name – Ex-Husband Warns Former Minister, Diezani, After Divorce

    Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke, the ex-husband of former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has filed a petition before Lagos State High Court, to restrain her from using his first name (Alison) and surname (Madueke) following the dissolution of their marriage.

    He prayed the court grants an order directing the respondent (Diezani) to adopt and revert to her pre-marital surname (Agama).

    He pleaded that the court directs the ex-minister to issue publications in newspapers of national circulation in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom of a notice of her discontinuation of the use of the petitioner’s first name and surname.

    The petition, in the high court of Lagos, suit no LD/15144HD/2024, sought that the ex-wife desist from using the petitioner’s name, which poses a significant risk of legal and financial harm to the petitioner as the respondent faces criminal trials in Nigeria and UK.

    The petition stated that they stopped living together in May 2015 after her ministerial appointment and in November 2021, citing irretrievable breakdown of marriage, Diezani filed a petition for dissolution of marriage (Suit No. NSD/MG345/2021) at the High Court of Nassarawa State, Nassarawa Judicial Division, sitting at Mararaba Gurku and on April 13, 2022, Judgment was delivered in Suit No. NSD/MG345/2021 by Hon. Justice A.A. Ozegya, dissolving the marriage between the Petitioner and the Respondent on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.

    The retired naval officer in his petition, stated that the respondent faces public allegations of corruption and financial misconduct, for which trials are ongoing for both.

    According to the statement, the petitioner instructed his solicitors to address a letter to the respondent, requesting her to cease the ongoing use of his first name and surname.

    Her demise was confirmed by the Borno State Police Command, who disclosed that she passed away in an accident at her home.

    The State Commissioner of Police, CP Yusuf Lawal who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the incident occurred on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

    Lawal said that the Prof. was parking her car in her garage when a sudden mechanical malfunction caused the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly, knocking her on the ground and stepping her chest.

    He said that she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries before being taken to the hospital.

    The police boss added that her remains were taken to the hospital by members of her family.

    Kingibe and Wike have not had a good working relationship since they assumed their respective offices.

    The lawmaker has repeatedly accused Wike of sidelining her, despite being the senator representing the FCT.

    Both politicians have recurrently lashed out at each other on various occasions.

    Wike said Kingibe’s anger stemmed from his constant companionship with Aduda and because she was not appointed as the senate chairperson of the committee on FCT.

    In September 2023, Kingibe said Wike did not have the executive powers to make threats of demolition of “illegal buildings” in the territory.

    In January, the lawmaker claimed that Wike had refused to respond to her letters and messages amid rising insecurity in Abuja.

    The senator also claimed that Wike did not have the interest of the FCT at heart, asserting that residents were battling water scarcity amid other challenges.

    Bandits have ambushed and killed five mobile police officers in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack occurred early Sunday morning as the officers were traveling from their base in Zandam village to the council headquarters in Jibia.

    The ambush took place around 6 a.m., resulting in the immediate death of four officers at the scene.     The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has compiled 142 recommendations to improve future electoral processes in Nigeria. INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known at the opening of a two-day induction retreat for Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Monday in Lagos.

     

    Yakubu noted that the commission had published the report of the review of the 2023 elections, which is now available on its website. Additionally, the outcomes of retreats and engagements with stakeholders are being published.

    Administrative Action by INEC: The majority of the recommendations are to be implemented by INEC.

    Security Agencies: Some recommendations require implementation by security agencies.

    Amendment to Electoral Legal Frameworks: Certain recommendations will require amendments by the National Assembly.

    Political Parties and Other Stakeholders: A few recommendations are to be implemented by political parties and other stakeholders.

    “Nigerians should be patient; as soon as we conclude the process very soon, we will share this report with Nigerians,” Yakubu added.

     

    Affirming that the FCT Area Council elections would also be due in 2026, Yakubu said that there was no respite for the commission again.

    The bereaved family of Nick Imudia, the former CEO of e-commerce giant, Konga, has rubbished reports that he died by su*cide.

    According to the Family,  investigations were still ongoing on the cause of his death as su*cide had been ruled out.

    Leadership reports that debunking news reports that Imudia had called his brother and daughter with instructions before his death, the family, in a statement signed by Dr. Anthony N. Imudia, said reportage of the news of the one-time Konga CEO’s death whilst the family was in the hospital trying to resuscitate him was suspicious.

    “The family of Nick Imudia is unhappy with the unprofessional manner the media has wrongly characterised the reporting of Nick Imudia’s death as su*cide.

    This is also supported by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s office that has vowed to investigate the sudden death of Nick. Neither did Nick call his brother in America with instructions on how to distribute his wealth, nor placed a call to his daughter with any instructions.

     How come the news was reported so hastilly (less than 3 hours from his death) before his family members even knew about it and the medical team was still trying to resuscitate him at the hospital! The Imudia family wonders!”

    Stating that the former Konga CEO comes from a close-knit family where support abounds, the family added

    “Nick never showed any sign of stress and he was not diagnosed as depressed at any point. The thought of su*cide in the manner portrayed and hastilly reported by the news media is suspect. Nick Imudia, until his death was the Group CEO of D.light International with Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was residing. He managed the company’s worldwide operations from Nairobi. Nick was full of life and people that worked closely with him or met him in the last hours prior to the incident surrounding his death were shocked with the media attributing his death to ‘su*cide’.

    He was on a short visit to Lagos after a brief trip to the Netherlands and was to return to Nairobi a day after his sudden death. Nick made his initial career mark with Nokia, the Finnish based Telecommunication Company before he was transferred from Helsinki to manage Nokia Asia operations in Singapore.

    Later in his career with Nokia, he was appointed as the Managing Director of Nokia – West and Central Africa. When Microsoft bought Nokia, he opted to leave the company. Looking for a new challenge, he became the CEO of Konga Nigeria where he reengineered the company’s operation.

    At his prime age and the level of his achievements, people who knew Nick well are all shocked and do not accept the characterization of his death as su*cide.

    Members of Nick’s family do request the media and the general public to allow them to grief their loved one without any unfounded rumour of the circumstances surrounding his death.”

    Obi Aguocha, the lawmaker representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and South federal constituency, paid a visit to the immediate past president, President Muhammadu Buhari to advocate for the release of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

    During a visit to Buhari’s country home in Daura on Saturday, Aguocha extended an apology for Kanu’s actions, which have been a point of national contention.

    “For the missteps, utterances, and ill gestures of the past, especially on the part of my constituent and brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, I am deeply sorry,    ” Aguocha expressed.

    This meeting follows a recent appeal on June 23 by about 50 members of the House of Representatives, who have called on President Bola Tinubu to facilitate Kanu’s release.

    These legislators, under the banner of Concerned Federal Lawmakers for Peace and Security in the South-East, urged the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to utilize Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to secure Kanu’s release, highlighting a growing legislative push for a resolution to this longstanding issue.

    In response, the former president appreciated Aguocha’s efforts and expressed his openness to a political solution for Kanu’s situation.

    Buhari’s stance reflects a potential shift, considering his previous statement in January, where he described the extradition of Kanu to Nigeria to face trial as a “favour” by the federal government, which had other more severe options at its disposal.

    Nnamdi Kanu, a central figure in the call for the secession of the Southeastern regions of Nigeria, was extradited to Nigeria in 2021 after he jumped bail and fled the country.

    He was initially arraigned on charges including terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement. Since his extradition, Kanu has expressed a willingness to negotiate with the federal government, seeking a peaceful resolution to the issues raised by the IPOB movement.
