  • Police Nab Three Rice Thieves In Nasarawa

Three suspects, Auwal Abubakar, Danrimi Mohammed, and Habibu Adamu, have been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command after they were accused of stealing 96 bags of 50 kilograms of rice from a businessman in the Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.

The businessman was said to have bought 700 bags of rice in Nasarawa State and transported them to Abia State when the hoodlums numbering about 15 attacked his vehicle on the road and carted away with the foodstuffs.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, disclosed on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters while parading a total of 31 suspected criminals who were recently arrested for committing various crimes in the state.

He narrated that the suspects who made several moves to escape, were arrested following painstaking efforts by the gallant officers of the command.

He said, “On 26/07/2024 at about 0330hrs, a complaint was lodged by a truck driver at Akwanga Area Command that on the same date, he loaded seven hundred (700) bags of rice at Rukubi, Doma LGA of Nasarawa State en route Abia State, but his truck developed a mechanical fault at Nassarawa Eggon, forcing him to pass the night at the spot.

“Suddenly, armed men numbering about 15 attacked him and forcefully tore the truck’s tarpaulin and carted away some bags of rice.”

The Commissioner of Police further narrated that upon receipt of the report, police operatives swiftly swung into action and pursued the hoodlums, adding that luck ran out of them as their vehicle was intercepted by the police officers.

“Three suspects were arrested namely Auwal Abubakar, Danrimi Mohammed, and Habibu Adamu, all males of Masaka, Karu LGA.

“Consequently, ninety-six bags of Mama Gold Rice and a Citroen Bus with Registration Number OGUN 419 XZX were recovered from them as exhibits

    ,” the CP added.

CP Nadada further mentioned that the command recovered a total of 1,080 pieces of ammunition, 13 laptops, television and phones, five magazines, four motorcycles, and five firearms, among others.

While warning all criminal elements to leave the state without further delay, the Commissioner of Police said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia.

In an interview with one of the suspects, Habibu Adamu denied being a member of the criminal gang and explained that he and the other two suspects arrested were merely conveying the bags of rice to a destination as transporters when they were arrested by the police.

“We are transporters (Driver and Loaders). We did not know if the bags of rice were stolen or not. We are appealing to the police to release us because we know nothing about the matter,” he said.

  • No Money, Position, Connection Is Enough To Sacrifice For Freedom – Mr Macaroni

Social activist and skit maker, Debo Adebayo aka Mr Macaroni has slammed some people saying they have lost every essence of their humanity.

This is as he maintained that no money, position or connection is enough to sacrifice for the freedom of the people.

Mr Macaroni in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, said some people have lost every essence of their humanity by promoting violence, hate and bigotry.

He said: “No amount of money, position or connection in this world should ever be enough to sacrifice the freedom of your people.

“Some people have lost every essence of their humanity by promoting violence, hate and bigotry just to have access to few crumbs at the table. It is their ignorance and selfishness that blinds them to the fact that if United, the entire Table belongs to us.”

Nigeria cursed with Tinubu as leader – Atiku’s Spokesman Blasts Fayose

    Atiku’s Spokesman Blasts Tinubu’s Administration, Fayose’s Remarks

In what could be described as a rejoinder, Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, came hard on the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over his recent interview on Channels Television, as he berated the administration of President Bola Tinubu, describing its policies as cataclysmic and squarely against the aspirations of many Nigerians.

Ibe reacted on X to comments made by Fayose concerning population control and good governance. According to him, though overpopulation is very important, it is not the major problem in the country. He wrote that despite the very large populations of countries like India and China, these countries managed to keep and protect their citizens.

Ibe described Tinubu’s governance as a series of failed promises and missteps, which have left Nigerians grappling with unmet expectations and worsening conditions.

“Nigeria is currently cursed with Bola Tinubu, a bumbling leader whose disastrous policies have crushed Nigerians’ hopes. He promised paradise but is delivering a train wreck, basking in the chaos he’s unleashed,” Ibe stated.

He also criticized Fayose, saying, “Then we have former Governor Ayo Fayose, who seems to either recognize our true problems or conveniently forgets his corruption charges for allegedly robbing Ekiti State blind. His brand of alleged theft is a significant issue, yet he distracts us, riding the #Awalokan wave, spouting irrelevant nonsense while ignoring the real crises.”

Ibe further accused Fayose of following Tinubu’s playbook, which he claimed was a campaign soaked in tribalism now translating into a narrow-minded governance agenda. “The voter profiling and exclusion tactics in certain areas are only widening our national rifts. Every region has its unique challenges, and genuine leadership should address these issues, not exploit them to seem superior,” he said.

Ibe concluded by urging other Nigerian leaders to focus on genuine issues and meaningful solutions rather than engaging in divisive politics.

COME OUT AND FACE US: Thugs Threaten Lagos Traders in Shocking Video ahead of Protest

Video Emerges of Thugs Threatening Traders Ahead of Nationwide Protests in Nigeria.

A shocking video has emerged of thugs threatening market traders in Lagos on the eve of nationwide protests slated to begin August 1st. In the widely shared video, members of a group are seen going around a market, issuing very stern threats to the traders to do something or face their wrath.

Warns the traders, “Nigerians, you are not the only people hungry. Do not come out on August 1st to protest. Well, if you get the mind to come out, see what will happen to you as captured in the video.”.

The threats have alarmed members of the public and sounded possibilities of violence and disorder in the protests scheduled to take place in a few weeks. The video definitely increases fears about the safety and security of people who plan to participate or support upcoming demonstrations against bad governance.

The situation is well followed by the authorities and civil society groups, as public outcry demands increased security measures for protection against peaceful protesters and a safe right to demonstration without intimidation or harm.

  • FG Begins Sale Of 50kg Rice For N40,000 To Appease Protesters

The Tinubu-led federal government on Monday, July 29, announced that centres have been set up across the nation where 50kg bags of rice will now be selling for N40,000 each.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this while briefing correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said this is part of the numerous initiatives being provided by the Tinubu administration, which he said made the planned nationwide protest against the high cost of living unnecessary.

According to him, President Tinubu is already protesting on behalf of the people planning the protest through the various interventions he is providing.

The minister said that the position of the FEC is that all the demands of the planners of the protest are already being met.

Idris stated: “The position of the FEC is that most of the demands that the protesters are making are actually being addressed by the federal government and therefore it is the view of the government that there is really no need for the protests again.

“Because most of those things that the protesters are putting forward are already actually being addressed or are being addressed by government. And like we have said repeatedly, this is a listening government.

“The President has listened to be voices of all those who are planning this protest. And the message is that there is no need for it.

“Indeed, the President is already protesting on their behalf by doing those things that they want a government to do.

“For example, the effort that government is making, to ensure that food is being made available. The last Council meeting here at the briefing, we announced that a number of trucks, 20 precisely had been given to the state governors for onward distribution to those who are actually In need of them, to poorest of the poor in society and those who are actually in need.

“But government did not stop. There is also rice that is being sold at about 50% of its cost, a bag of rice is being sold as we speak now.

“This rice has been taken to various centres across all the states of the federation, and is being sold at N40,000. Centres have been created. So that those who need this rice can go there and buy this rice at N40,000.

“In the first instance, about 10 trucks have been made available to each of these states and indeed, this is just the beginning.

“I know that some of the comments you hear is that it is never enough. Government has not pretended that these supplies are indeed enough. But these are necessary first steps that are being made and more of such interventions are being made in the interim.

“Of course, this is like I said an interim measure because there is so much investment that is going into the agricultural sector.

“And the rainy season is here. We expect that the prices of food items will come down as investments are also being made not just for the traditional agricultural production, but also for the irrigation activities in many of these states in the federation.

“So, we expect that as we move forward, pricess of food items, and commodities will of course, come down.

“These are part of of the measures and the president feels and the federal executive council believes that already some of the youth that want to protest, some of the answers that they are looking for are already actually being provided.

“For example, only recently the federal government has begun the disbursement of student loans. There’s a provision already for over 2 million students.

“Only about 110,000 applications have thus far been received as at last week. Of course, more are going to come.

“So, there’s adequate provision for all those who are qualified, who can access these loans and who have fulfilled this condition.

“The desire of Mr President is that no student, no young person that has gained admission into any of our tertiary institutions will be left out because his parents or his guardian is unable to pay for his fees.

“But beyond that, there is also the provision that is being made for these young people. We are aware of the effort that is being made to ensure that about 3 million of them are being put into employment through the MTT program.

“There is also for the general public the reduction that is envisaged by the time the CNG initiative of the federal government actually takes full course.

“Already, some of these buses have been imported. Some of the conversion kits are already available. The conversion centres are already beginning to get active.

“The delays are largely because you don’t just go to the market and get these things off the shelves.

“First the procurement processes have to be followed. And then of course you have to place order for them and it is envisaged that as we make the transition from fossil fuel to renewables, there is going to be a reduction of over 60% in the cost that people put in transportation.

“If you have your car, it is envisaged that you’re going to spend about 60% less and that money that comes back to your pocket, but the emphasis at the beginning is going to be on commercial buses, for mass transit so that workers especially and those who are moving around will have reduction in the fares that they pay.

“Now, this in combination with so many other things that government is doing government is appealing once again, to those who have the intention of embarking on this protest to please think about it once again.

“There is just no need for that. Of course, it is the democratic right of every Nigerian to engage in peaceful protests. And the government is not an opponent to that.

“But what the government is doing is to ensure that while there is this right for you to protest, your right will also end where someone else‘s own begin.

“Therefore, while you are thinking of protesting, government is appealing to you to first shelve it because it has the great likelihood that this protest may be hijacked and may turn violent by unscrupulous elements, and Nigeria will not be good for it.

“Of course, we know that people are saying that there is no intention for violence in this, but our history has shown that there’s the possibility that this protest can be hijacked and could turn violent.”

Lado noted this in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Abuja on Tuesday, stressing that the expeditious passage and assent to the minimum wage bill demonstrated that President Tinubu was a man of his words.

He added that it was a promise kept for the Nigerian workers and the citizens too, adding that, “with time, the people-centric governance model would turn the fortunes of this nation.”

The presidential aide recalled that Tinubu promised Nigerian workers a living wage during his electioneering campaign, hence, the signing of the bill into law was a word kept, adding that the provision for upward review of the wage for workers every three years against the former five years was a good development.

He said: “This shows that workers take home pay will continue to take them home under the present administration.

“The President deserves the commendation of all for staying true to his promise.”

Lado equally commended the National Assembly, led by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass for the swift passage of the Minimum Wage Bill.

  • BREAKING: Soldiers Take Over Major Abuja Road 72 Hours To Hunger Protest

Military officers on Monday, July 29, set up a roadblock to conduct a stop-and-search operation on vehicles entering the nation’s capital.

Commuters travelling on the Keffi-Abuja expressway were stuck in traffic due to the unexpected blockade.

According to DailyTrust, the blockade occurred at the Sani Abacha barracks before the popular AYA roundabout, causing significant disruption.

The security agencies did not provide any prior warning before implementing the checkpoint, resulting in a massive traffic gridlock that extended as far as Nyanya Bridge, more than 12 kilometres from the roadblock.

This left many civil servants, traders, and other commuters who live in areas such as Nyanya, Karu, Maraba, and Masaka, and work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), unable to reach their destinations.

After hours of being stuck in the standstill traffic, numerous commuters were forced to abandon their journeys and return home.

The unexpected roadblock comes just three days before the planned nationwide protest against the economic hardship in Nigeria.

Several youth groups have announced their intention to commence a nationwide protest starting August 1, citing the rising cost of living and economic challenges as the primary reasons for their demonstration.

The increased military presence and the subsequent traffic chaos have added to the tensions already building ahead of the protests.

Tinubu Orders NNPC to Sell Crude Oil to Dangote Refinery in Naira

Tinubu Directs NNPC to Sell Crude to Dangote Refinery in Naira.

Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant policy shift, President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to sell crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other emerging refineries in Naira. This directive aims to stabilize the pump price of refined fuel and manage the dollar-Naira exchange rate.

Bayo Onanuga, the President’s special adviser on information and publicity, announced the directive via his official X handle on Monday, July 29. This decision was reportedly adopted during the Federal Executive Council meeting earlier today.

This development follows recent statements by Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), on July 18, alleging that local refineries, including the Dangote refinery, produce inferior products compared to imports. In response, Dangote refuted these claims by demonstrating the quality of his refinery’s diesel on July 20 during a visit by federal lawmakers.

The billionaire entrepreneur also highlighted issues with international oil companies (IOCs) not supplying crude oil to his refinery, calling for an investigation into these allegations. Subsequently, on July 22, lawmakers initiated probes into Ahmed’s claims and the alleged obstructions by IOCs.

In his announcement, Onanuga outlined the key points of President Tinubu’s directive: “To ensure the stability of the pump price of refined fuel and the dollar-Naira exchange rate, the Federal Executive Council today adopted a proposal by President Tinubu to sell crude to Dangote Refinery and other upcoming refineries in Naira.

“Dangote Refinery at the moment requires 15 cargoes of crude, at a cost of $13.5 billion yearly. NNPC has committed to supply four.

“But the FEC has approved that the 450,000 barrels meant for domestic consumption be offered in Naira to Nigerian refineries, using the Dangote refinery as a pilot. The exchange rate will be fixed for the duration of this transaction.

“Afreximbank and other settlement banks in Nigeria will facilitate the trade between Dangote and NNPC Limited. The game-changing intervention will eliminate the need for international letters of credit. It will also save the country billions of dollars used in importing refined fuel.”

This initiative is expected to enhance the financial operations of local refineries, reduce dependency on imported Fuel.

  • Boko Haram Planning To Infiltrate Nationwide Protest – Police Warns

The Yobe State Police Command has raised alarm over an alleged plan by Boko Haram terrorists to infiltrate the forthcoming #EndBadGovernance protest in August.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, July 27, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

He said intelligence received by the command indicated that foreign mercenaries were engaged to destroy lives and property at the protest.

Mr Abdulkarim, therefore, called on would-be protesters to exercise caution.

He said: “As Yobe state recovers from insurgency, the commissioner of police, CP Garba Ahmed, acknowledges citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly.

“While we alert citizens to sinister motives, even peaceful protests at this time may be ill-timed. Recent insurgency activities in Gujba LGA, including an improvised explosive device explosion, have raised concerns.

“We are unprepared to face additional security challenges.”

According to Mr Abdulkarim, the protesters must indicate proposed protest routes and assembly points for a hitch-free protest.

The spokesman said they should also state the expected duration of the protest, names and contact details of leaders and organisers and measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements.

The statement said, “By providing this information, we can deploy adequate personnel and resources, designate specific routes and areas, establish clear communication channels, and minimise the risk of violence, property damage, or criminal activity.

“We encourage protesters to cooperate with the police, obey the law, and adhere to global best practices for peaceful assembly. We are committed to working with all to promote peaceful expression and maintain public order.”
