2023 years of Labour Education
Comrade Issa Aremu, Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute of Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, has reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to promoting and enhancing quality labour education in 2023 in an effort to reduce avoidable workplace conflicts.
In his new year’s message, Comrade Aremu noted that with the upcoming presidential election in February and the 40th anniversary of the Institute, 2023 assumes particular significance for both Nigeria and MINILS.

The new year marks 24 uninterrupted years of democratic process, he added.
Therefore, the Director-General urged all Nigerians to exercise their democratic right to elect a new President, legislators, and governors.

According to him, “MINILS is enthusiastic and optimistic that INEC will conduct free and fair elections in 2023 and improve upon previous electoral procedures. Nigeria is the largest democracy destination in Africa, with nearly 90 million registered voters, 18 political parties, and 176,846 Polling Units.
Regardless of the current obstacles, Aremu remarked that “democratic Nigeria has brought about more development and legitimises the freedom to select leaders.”
Recently, he praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his statesmanship in ensuring that votes were counted in a free environment in the states of Ekiti and Osun, adding that “under his tested and trusted leadership, it can only get better for Nigeria in 2023 with credible elections and results that will improve good governance and development.”
In addition, Comrade Aremu disclosed that the Labour Institute, which was founded in 1983 by the late President Shehu Shagari, will turn 40 in 2023.
According to him, the Institute was slated to reflect on its sacred mandate of promoting labour education over the past four decades, adding that 2023 provides a platform for a series of activities celebrating MINILS as an important African labour, market training, and research institute.
