Woman Pretending To Be Pregnant Steals 7-Day-Old Baby During Naming Ceremony

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended one Khadija Aliyu for allegedly kidnapping a seven-day-old baby girl during a naming ceremony in the Keffi area of the state.

Khadija, who had been falsely claiming to be pregnant, reportedly carried out the abduction under the guise of attending the event.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, the suspect attended the ceremony, which took place behind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Keffi.

While the event was ongoing, Khadija reportedly sneaked into the house, where the baby was asleep, strapped the infant to her back, covered her with a veil, and made her escape.

The incident took place in broad daylight, but thanks to swift police efforts, Khadija was arrested later in the evening.

DSP Nansel confirmed that police operatives attached to the Keffi Division apprehended the suspect on September 28, 2024, at about 6:30 pm.

Authorities are expected to continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction.

The baby has since been recovered and returned to the family, while Khadija remains in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
