There were rumours circulating that Professor Wole Soyinka, a Nigerian who won the Nobel Prize, had passed away, but Omoyele Sowore disproved those rumours.
It has been speculated on various social media platforms, most prominently Twitter, that the author passed away last Friday.

But Sowore, who took to his Facebook page to dispel the rumour, stated that the playwright is alive and well and urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour as it pertains to him.
He wrote that there was nothing wrong with Professor Wole Soyinka and that he was still alive and well. Please disregard the rumours that he has passed away!”
