NYSC Supports Kwara State Government’s Decision to Demote Teacher for Assaulting Corps Member.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has supported the Kwara State government’s decision to demote a school teacher at the Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, for assaulting a female corps member.

The Kwara State government had earlier sanctioned the teacher, Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, for beating the corps member at her place of work.

According to a source familiar with the situation, the incident occurred when the female corps member visited the school to collect her clearance letter. One of the teachers accused her of not greeting properly and subsequently beat her and tore her clothes.

Sam Bola Onile, Press Secretary for Kwara TESCOM, stated that an investigation revealed the teacher was guilty of unprofessional conduct.

Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, commended the state government for its objective resolution of the issue. In a press statement, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, Director General of NYSC, applauded the sanctions imposed on the teacher, highlighting the importance of treating corps members with respect.

Ahmed stressed that the NYSC would not tolerate any form of maltreatment towards its corps members, who are contributing to national unity and development. He urged corps members to abide by their Oath of Allegiance and continue their responsibilities.

The incident, where the corps member was assaulted for not greeting properly, was reported to the state government, leading to the establishment of an investigative panel. The NYSC found the panel’s findings fair and commendable.
