President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected for another one-year tenure as chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of States and Government.

Tinubu’s first tenure is to end on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

The re-election took place during the 65th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of States and Government, held at the Presidential Palace. Tinubu appointed the President of Senegal to join mediation efforts with Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad.

In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu expressed his gratitude and commitment: “I have accepted to continue to deliver on this service with the great men and women on this democratic journey, to serve our interest and build democratic values on the structure we inherited.

President Tinubu’s initial election as chairman of the Authority occurred during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc, held last July in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
