I Will Send You to Scatter Them”: Tinubu Jokingly Tells Akpabio as Senate President Accuses Opposition of Sponsoring Insecurity.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday jokingly suggested that he could deploy Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the opposition camp to cause confusion and destabilise rival parties.

Ejes Gist News reports that Tinubu made the light-hearted remark during his speech at the inauguration of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja.

“Senate President, I will send you to the other side to represent me. And then you can scatter them to any way you want,” Tinubu said, drawing laughter from the audience.

He added with a smile: “They’re confused!”

The President concluded his speech with a brief note of patriotism: “God bless Nigeria, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the tax collectors.”

Akpabio Drops Bombshell: Opposition Sponsoring Insecurity

While Tinubu’s comment was delivered in jest, the event took a more serious turn earlier when Senate President Akpabio made a startling allegation linking opposition figures to the country’s rising insecurity.

Speaking during his own remarks at the inauguration, where he had lavished praise on Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing reforms, Akpabio claimed that opposition elements jealous of the administration’s achievements were actively sponsoring violence to distract the government.

According to the Senate President, recent security incidents—including bombings and attacks in various parts of the country—were politically motivated and designed to create fear while discrediting the government ahead of the next election cycle.

Akpabio argued that the opposition, unable to match the administration’s performance, had resorted to desperate measures to undermine public confidence.

The Senate President’s allegation is likely to trigger sharp reactions from opposition parties, who have consistently denied any involvement in the nation’s security challenges.

Tinubu’s joke, while delivered in a light-hearted manner, may also draw commentary from political analysts regarding the optics of the President joking about “scattering” the opposition at an official state function.

Context: The NRS Headquarters Inauguration

The event marked the official opening of the new headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service, a key agency in the administration’s drive to boost internally generated revenue and reduce the country’s reliance on borrowing.

Both Tinubu and Akpabio used the occasion to highlight the government’s economic achievements and the importance of tax compliance for national development.

This is a developing story. Further updates will follow as reactions from opposition parties and civil society emerge.
